I modded the spiderdemon. Fire rate doesn't matter, pain chance doesn't matter - what she needs to have is a _much_ shorter warmup before firing to stand a chance. Though rate of fire after she starts firing helps. Quite a bit in fact. Bumping her cyclic rate to match the player's own chaingun is a huge leap in lethality for Ms. Tier F.

@@DinnerForkTongue one of the maps from a recently curated and officially released map packs has just that, 2 of them on raised platforms at separate corners of a mid sized room, supported by a handful of barons on the ground level where the player would be, they can't infight eachother as there's no angles offered for it and the barons if hit will just walk up to the base of the platform and get stuck

Sure SMM won its UV 1v1.... but the Chaingunner tore strips off its hide to the tune of more than 2600 HP BY ITSELF. If it weren't for that momentary ignoring of the pain state where it got to retaliate and mowed the gunner down, it would have freaking lost that matchup.
SMM basically is too slow to engage, has a large hitbox and too high a pain chance so against a chaingun (let alone multiple) it's weak at all ranges as it can always be constantly hit. When you bring more than one SMM into the fray the chaingunners don't always all target them evenly and once one SMM can start firing it breaks the painchance cycle the others are locked into and alows them to do what you probably expected them to which is to pepper the chaingunners to a quick death.
I found the spidermaster mind always worked better vs a player then enemies. I know i played some wads that made her a deadly turret that dances. But her high pain chance and lack of aggression kills her so much vs these mooks.
That mastermind taking damn near an L in a 1v1 was tough to watch. I mean MM came before the chain gunner so I don’t think it was taken into consideration but dang…

I remember fighting the mastermind one time with a marine with 200 health, 200 armor and just walking rightbup to it face to face and shooting. Id lose but it did substantial damage!
And, if I were to buff Spiderdemon, i would have to make it scan and 'lock on' up to two targets, so it would not stop shooting if one target dies, or if it acquires one more target from the spiderdemon's view. Also, lower pain chance to 7.81%.
Some might say this is how the Spider Mastermind is trash, but I'd argue this speaks instead to how overtuned the Chaingun Guy is. He seriously has waaaay too good of stats to be a former human like the Zombiemen and the Shotgun Guy
if they didnt have this huge start up time and high enough pain chance that repeated the start up over and over, they might actually be not so bad lol. mastermind was always one of my fav boss design wise, but sooooo easy lol
