I have to wonder: if you decreased or deactivated the pain state of the Spider Mastermind, would that alone turn things around? 4:25 HA! I’ve been wondering what would happen if the last victim got off a shot that finished the other side too.
deactivating it completely would make it pretty sick but even then the spread on her chain/shotgun is just too high. You can see she can barely kill the 4 revenants when they are at a distance and their constant stream of rockets keeps pushing her away making her dps go down even more. She would still get smoked by 6+ revenants on nightmare at that distance.
Considering you can change the weapons for the AI controlled Marines, can you do the same with the monsters? I would love to see the Spider Mastermind have the same fire rate but with a shotgun instead of a chaingun.
Technically, the mastermind is using the same attack as the zombie shotgunners (the exact code even), just at full auto. The zombie and the mastermind fire 3 pellets per shot (as opposed to the player's shotgun firing 7 pellets).
@@MrEvilbyte that's probably the origin of monsters using the shotgun sound instead of the pistol sound for automatic bullet weapons. The SS and Chaingunner came in Doom 2, and they probably just kept the shotgun sound effect (despite those enemies shooting single bullets, not 3 like the SMM).

I always thought that one shot from the SMM equals to the same damage that a shotgun blast can do. there are revenants who got hit more than six times and still didn't die. that keeps getting more and more embarrassing for the SMM
The other day I did an experiment for the science.. made a huge open sector and booted zdoom, then used the freeze command and summoned one SMM and 10 friend revenants with some distance in between similar to this video's scenario (bit more distance actually, though irrelevant for the experiment). Each time I finnished placing the revenants I unfroze all and shot somewhere else to wake up the SMM as well. inconsistent - 5 of them the SMM lost, leaving 2 to 4 revenants left. In these cases the pain chance was a bit unlucky for the SMM, which allowed more revenants to surround it more easily and beat it after a while. It still didn't even remotely struggle as much as in this video... then again my arena was immensely open, the initial distance was higher, but seeing as there was never a moment the revs cornered the SMM in this video I think my differences aren't really all too relevant. - 4 of them were wins while leaving the SMM with less than 1000 health left, some closer to death. I noticed it had a better chance of winning the less it pain chanced, and the more it sustained fire while the revenants got closer and bunched up in line. - The odd win had the SMM never flinching and actually killing all the revenants before they got to melee range, so its final health had to be above 2000 no doubt. This one surprised me the most to be honest. I was anticipating this video because I wanted to see how much different it would turn out from my own experiment. Vastly, vastly different, in spite of not playing the exact same scenarios, but still shockingly different. The fact it didn't kill more than 3 in the 1vs8 is so weird.
Does anyone know how to mod in a Mastermind with much less chance to enter a pain state and a faster firing weapon? I want to see the modded Mastermind in a series on this channel. X3
On the larger nightmare battles the spiders automatically lose the moment their flanks die, as they can't hit the distance revenants. The spiders would probably lose 1v1 against a revenant on nightmare at enough range.
Infight and monster's threat to the player are two completely and unrelated different things, and even the second can vary a lot depending on the circumstances... can't compare one with another

Shes more scary vs players then in fighting. a few well placed masterminds is a pain to deal with. As its basically a turret.

I've witnessed the Mastermind lose to a single Cacodemon while playing.

The damage per shot rolls between 3-45, same as the sergeant's attack

Dehacked is what you're after. You can make her immune to pain and give her a 50cal. minigun.
