    Thanks for the rare review of a PR7 Nemo!! Especially like how humble you are and are not afraid to say the normal PR7 is the better bike for most riders (you don't really need the special edition or the new Gold edition which have the Ohlins suspension and you don't need the power kit). I am more aware now of how noise issues are really making motorcycle riders in Europe lose riding possibilities as they are closing a lot of passes in the Alps and curvy roads in Germany and Austria. Loud pipes piss people off and we will always lose that fight!!

      Thank you for the good words! I met one guy in Denmark with the new AJP PR7, the regular version and I asked to try his bike. Did not ride with it, but sat on and felt the suspension- believe me- it was like day and night. Simply loved it. And about the sound and noise, definitely we, riders should be aware of that and respect the laws. Cheers!

      There is one thing on the special editions that is definitely better:
      The clutch lever on the standard model i find a bit too heavy considering how much you need to modulate it. Definitely worth an upgrade. On the gold edition it was really good amd light

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@axelfiraxa On a special edition bike, like mine (but there are only 35 units made in total), the clutch is exactly the same, but the gold edition is supposed to get the Oberon slave cylinder and that probably makes a big difference. So there is a possibility that the one you've tried has one installed.

    • @axelfiraxa
      @axelfiraxa 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nemoltu on the gold edition i think they had a brembo. Either way was much lighter to use than stock.
      Not the end of the world but if you have to spend several hours feathering the clutch it is a very big relief

      Btw i am sad i bought the ktm690 instead of this. The ajp is just so much more comfortable and approachable. Plus it has most of the things i want to add to the KTM as standard fittings.
      Great bike for sure

    Hi Nemo, Great review buddy nothing like a review from experience and not after a press day ride.
    I have one of the first brought out to Australia in 2017 which I bought second hand late in 2022. Mine has had a remap of the ecu by the factory and the relay mod to help with starting. I don't have any problems starting but the small lithium battery struggles on a cold morning. Have got the larger battery cradle from the factory and will be fitting a larger glass matt battery soon.
    You are correct with the abilities of the bike make it a true adventure bike. Anything over 200KGS and they become a touring bike in my opinion.
    Don't expect too much from a tablet mate. It just a simple cheap tablet just for a bit of a heads up display and not much more. Try not using maps and just follow your nose that's how I ride. When unsure I have a basic downloaded map called Hema here in Australia I just reference that and go ah yep turn left here and I'm back on track. Don't look at the screen just enjoy the scenery.
    My bike is pretty stock apart from some Barkbusters, double Take mirrors and some pro taper bars. I have removed the Doma exhaust and put the stock unit on cause like you the Doma is too loud. I too love the seat it's the best I have ever had on any bike.
    Anyway thanks for a great review I enjoyed it a lot. Appreciate the effort you take to speak English.

      Hey, Steve, thank you! And I see I watched a lot of your videos when I was looking for some content about this little but not that small adventure bike.
      "Don't look at the screen just enjoy the scenery" made my day :)
      I think it's kinda a bummer that you have such an awesome screen in front of you and you can't trust it. if I had kept this bike Samsung Active 5 would find its way instead of this OEM one faster than I could blink :D

    Great review for ordinary adventure riders like myself, especially re suspension. Really helpful for me because now I won't waste money buying the premium model. I think we are about the same size and weight and if it the forks are too harsh for you in normal adventure riding they will be too harsh for me. Appreciate you honest views on tablet too. Thanks very much for posting mate, all the very best from England.

    Hi, good to see you again. good video. The PR 7 tablet of 2023 is a Samsung A7 lite 32GB. You must add a memory card of 256 GB or more and configure Osmand so that the downloaded maps are saved on the external memory card. And you won't have any more worries.

      @@nemoltu I agree with your theory of leaving the customer the choice of an original tablet or another more expensive system. but unfortunately all manufacturers do this, it starts with a mediocre engine guard, plastic hand guards and I'm not even talking about the shock absorber springs which are undersized.
      To come back to the tablet, I had on the T 700 Teneré a hardened model designed to withstand temperatures from -20° to more than 50°. CROSS CALL CORE T 4 bought for €500 3 years ago (the only tablet with military certification in France) and well guess?...
      tablet broken after 3 off-road trips after sales service contacted... irreparable. a new one was sent back to me... 2nd tablet out of service after 3 months of use. I had to fight with after-sales service to have a manufacturing defect recognized and a 3rd new tablet was returned to me. This whole story makes you crazy and doesn't give you the confidence to spend a lot of money and ultimately not have the quality you expected. (To date CROOSCALL sells this tablet for 150€?!!!) unfortunately, all the means of electronic GPS navigation on tablets or others are not studied or at least not advanced enough to withstand the numerous vibrations caused by driving off-road. the solution is largely in the design of the support which must absorb the numerous vibrations. sorry for being so long.

    Great video and i loved your travels, every time i get excited and interested in the PR7 i find one of these honest videos, true stories by people like you and they stop me from buying - simple problems such as clutch, slave, the bloody tablet i would lose my mind over that - these are old issues and known to public and should not be up to the customer to fix. Also, wtf is up with the 8 inch gap between peg and gear shifter? Come AJP we know you are small but these silly things are hurting your brand

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! As we all know there is no perfect bike, but over here I see a perfect opportunity to make it as close as possible to the perfect one. Even some things can't be improved, like the routing of the exhaust or the mounting height of the pegs, even the length of the gear shifter might be unchangeable, cause all of that would require a new frame design, but if the company would do their best to have everything as perfect as it can be that would make this bike so epic. I did not mention a few more things but didn"t want to extend this video any longer and put PR7 into a negative perspective. it is a really awesome bike and with some money and effort we all can make it an incredible dirt-oriented traveling machine, just I will always have a question- why the factory wouldn't want to do more than we do?

    Very good review! In a couple of years, when I decide to upgrade from my 300l Rally, this is the bike that i will be looking for. The only issue that I would face at this time is being able to certify the bike so that it is street legal in my state. I’m not sure why it doesn’t come certified to be street legal where I live, but I know people that have been able to make modifications to dirt bikes and make them street legal. We have to jump through a few hoops to get it done, but it is possible. But hopefully, by the time I’m ready to buy one, AJP will deliver them street legal for my area.

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, thanks a lot! I think some of the things are missing on this bike to go through stricter regulations, that could be the lack of ABS and an adjustable headlight...

    • @airadaimagery692
      @airadaimagery692 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nemoltu I’m not sure why they aren’t certified to be street legal here, but I asked Ben, that has the TH-cam channel Dork in The Road, and he informed me of this, and I don’t think he knew exactly why either. He said that he would love to be able to try one out too though, but his state is really strict about registering certain motorcycles to be street legal.
      It’s not the lack of ABS though, because ABS is optional in the US.
      If a motorcycle has a horn, a headlight, tail light, brake light, mirrors and blinkers, we can get it registered as a street bike. Even if it’s just some old dirt bike that we modify. So I could make it happen. And we are only allowed to do that in certain states within the US, and fortunately, I live in one of those states, whereas Ben does not. Its not the easiest process to go through, even in my state, but I have done it in the past.
      And for a manufacturer to sell a motorcycle as a street ready machine in the US, it has to have all the things that I mentioned above, plus it has to meet a bunch of emissions specifications and regulations, so I’m assuming that it must have something to do with that...
      And even though the US requires manufacturers to meet all those specifications, as a buyer, I can remove all that restrictive stuff from my motorcycle after I purchase it, because they don’t enforce it! Lol... It’s just crazy!...
      I have seen a couple PR7’s running around the US, so I’m pretty sure that I can get my hands on one and get it registered, I just hope AJP starts delivering them to meet all the regulations for the entire US by the time I’m ready to buy one.
      They would definitely sell a lot more of them if they did. I hope they fix the issue with the tablet too! I can’t believe it doesn’t take an interchangeable SD card...

    good review some observations, alloy spindle spacers are common on high end bike for lightweight and seen as a consumable, if you know a man with a lathe you could have a stainless steel ring sleeved on to the seal contact diameter of the alloy for a good compromise have done this myself. pegs are generally high for ground clearance and you are particularly tall, suspension you did not mention if you had tried to reduce compression damping to make a more "plush" ride. the tablet, seems a lot complain about them perhaps AJP should offer it as an option and leave the space open for a generic GPS or other tablet type options. Bizzare to me why manufacturers are unable after all these years to be able to fit reliable slave cylinders had similar troubles with KTM. luggage loading is obviously a generic problem of adding weight to a relatively lightweight base machine suspension setup would help. Would love to buy one myself but with legs of a little over 72cm they are like many so tall. servicing- common sense to me says the service interval is based on the higher tune setup if you run the lower power it could be stretched a little. Great real world review thank you.

      Thanks for your observations, will try to reply in short. The aluminum spacers I've changed right away cause I have seen some getting bad in a few hundred kilometers and you can get the steel ones from Poland.
      About the pegs it's just my opinion, how it felt for me and I know you can't get the lowering kit cause of the exhaust routing.
      I wrote about the suspension in the answer to the comment below,, but yes I've tried everything.

      You are welcome! I'm 194cm. Strangely I did not feel cramped on it even though it looked like I should. I mean my legs never felt tired or something. Maybe, because the footpegs are positioned a little bit toward the rear. Not sure. In other means my Ducati DesertX feels more comfortable and natural to standing up. @@nemoltu 🙂 I appreciate the work.
      I'd say I agree with most of your remarks on the PR7. I have a H701 LR (25 liters of fuel) myself and am very happy with it.
      I'm still using the Galaxy Tab 3; waterproof and rugged and in some ways better than version 4 (too big). Sadly Thork DMD2 only wants to install in the RAM memory (not on SD card) and I'm angry about that, because on their own tablets, it installs perfectly on SD cards (BUT their tablets cost an extra +300 euro compared to other similar tablets!!!)
      I got myself a CAT S75 phone that has one of the cheapest satellite options available in the market. Something to connect in case of emergencies in remote areas devoid of mobile phone connections. ahhh... a man and his toys 🙂
      On your trip to Portugal, I had the impression that you did minimal maintenance and it seemed that sometimes it was on the brink of disaster (like the air filter). I do believe these lightweight adventure bikes need a bit more attention & loving care than your standard Gold Wing or even a T700...

      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PeterR0035 Yep, agree with your tablet choice. I am thinking about what to put on my DesertX. Still can't decide and might not put anything this year cause no big trips soon. But Tab 3 or 5 looks like an awesome option if I'm not gonna go Thork or Carpe iter way.
      Yeah, on my trip to Portugal, I kinda did not expect the air filter to get that dirty cause I was riding solo and was not expecting it would get that much dust. To be honest I did not oil my chain even once, after having this big problem with sand and oil mix on my DesertX chain on the first leg of my trip.

    • @nathanbanks7091
      @nathanbanks7091 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @PeterR0035 I am a firm believer in changing the oil twice as often as recommended (with a filter change every other time) on single cylinder bikes. One cylinder engines have more blow by gasses that will wear out the oil sooner than other engines. Also, they get riden in dirty places. A couple liters of oil every 1500-2000 miles is not terribly expensive. Especially if it lengthens the interval for major maintenance like timing chain replacement.

    On the topic of the 2 bikes it would be interesting to hear some discussion regarding bike choice. When you would take the PR7 on a trip over the DesertX and vice versa. The grey zone where both would do but selecting one over the other.
    Anc the remove the fuel tank to change air filter on the ducati ;)

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I purchased the DesertX the same year it was released that was 2022. Trade it in my Multistrada V4S for it. Then the same year I was offered this PR7 and could not resist the offer cause I knew that in 2023 I was gonna do this trip, and now we are getting to the choices for different situations.
      For the trips, same as I was doing in the first leg of last year's trip, I would always take DDX. I mean Scandinavian gravel roads, some Estonian harder parts, Poland, or even Grand Alpine roads, etc, DDX is a perfect choice. You can do it with PR7, but definitely, it's more fun to do it with a bigger bike. But when I think about Hungarian mud and Italian TET with so steep mountain passes and crazy stones I would really reconsider my choice. In the mud and sand, I don't even dear to go with DDX. We all like challenges. I'm not any different. Maybe next year I will try to TET Georgia and I am preparing my DesertX for that. Only one thing I am not gonna set the goal to ride all of it, I just wanna go there, ride it, and make videos at the same time. So the conclusion of this long monolog would be I would take a Ducati everywhere but without a goal to get from point A to B without leaving the set course/ trail. That would be a lot of fun suffering and maybe an awesome video, but not sure if would it be as much fun as with PR7. DDX is a bike for the trails where the chances of falling are as minimal as it can be.
      I changed the DDX filter and that is no fun. There is an option to get the carbon fiber tank with easy access to the filter, but the price is not right :)
      Not sure if that is exactly what you were asking, but I hope I answered :)

    Tablet: you can/should disable the touchscreen in rain and navigate using a bluetooth remote controller. Also you can put an SD card to the tablet and store the maps on it. Also it helps if you only load one country at once. (Unfortunately I have not yet had your problem travelling through Europe).
    Cheaper alternatives: Samsung Active Tab 2, 3, and 5 (not so cheap). But factory tablet has DMD2 with lifetime subscription (unlimited maps).
    I have a regular PR7 from 2021 with Athena ECU. I had to disconnect the lambda sensor, so slow speed fueling is now fine. Suspension: I never felt it harsh or hard but rather very good dampening, but I can only compare it to a 2002 Transalp :)
    IMHO it is very good bike to travel a long distance off-road.

      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, about the suspension, you have the SACHS one, and that one is really plush, can't even remotely compare to Ohlins that gold or special edition has, I tried one like yours and was amazed at how soft it felt.
      I've had much more problems with this tablet, but did not want to look for that in my huge raw video collection from the trip. Like out of nowhere it decided to show the screen upside down :) It is just not a good device for long traveling in my humble opinion.
      I did not expect that storage would be so low on this tablet and it caught me a little bit of guard. I still will stay with my opinion that the factory could have a few choices for the tablets and would let the buyer choose from the options. That way customers would avoid paying for something that he doesn't need and get the device that is right for their needs..
      I ended up keeping the map of just one or two countries, but still was so sad that this tablet could not support a SIM card and yes, a memory card would have been helpful. I don't think that touch screen disabling would have fixed the issue with screen positioning or the slow work of the tablet itself.

Forward facing air intake sucks water into proprietary air filter. Fuel cap sticks and drops mud into tank. Sticky fuel level sensor. Unadjustable headlights point into sky. Exhaust flattens on first bump. Rear brake lever sits on exhaust. Can't adjust spring preload without removing tank. Rectifier under water during river crossings. Rotten wiring, broken wires in loom. I find there is a big misunderstanding about what suspension is supposed to do. If you are riding off-road it is meant to articulate enough to keep the tires in contact with the road, not bottom out when hitting bumps and rebound in a way to keep a motorcycle balanced front to back (no wallowing or bucking).
    The misunderstanding from a road riders perspective is that it needs to be a plush/soft ride if you aren't taking big jumps....WRONG!
    The suspension is first and foremost for performance. If a soft ride is what you are after than tarmac is probably more for you.

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree with you, but let me disagree as well. If you took the regular AJP PR7 you would feel how different that suspension feels and the motorcycle is built exactly for the same purpose, I suppose. When I was passing through The Netherlands, I contacted one serious suspension shop to address that issue with my suspension and after I told them that I had a special edition, they interrupted me and asked if am I calling about suspension being too hard? They've had one and knew about that problem and they had to revalve the front. After all is said I will be back to what I've said in the video I think it is awesome suspension for hard rallies and very tough roads, and even I've had some parts of the roads where I was amazed with it, but most of us we don't need that. Regular suspension is more than enough.

    • @nickg2431
      @nickg2431 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes wise words , it’s important to have the springing right for the individuals weight as if it’s not the bike will-
      A/ sit too low in the stroke resulting in an “ unusual “ handling feel
      B/if the springs are already compressed too much the suspension won’t have the correct amount of movement for a certain individuals weight. This results in a harsh feeling as the suspension can’t do its job correctly as it can’t move up and down by the amount it should be able to.

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you travel for weeks and months or even longer, the phone thing doesn't work as perfectly as it could be with a proper tablet. The first thing it's bigger and it's much easier to look for stuff around, even on Google Maps. It's just simply easier to see and doo quick adjustments. In this case, I don't want to make a huge deal. This tablet is not a good option for the motorcycle and that's it. Hope the factory would make some options so customers can decide do they want an upgraded version or not.
      I was OK with my dedicated phone for the first leg of my trip but was really excited to have the tablet. My eyes are not getting any better and the trip I was doing was based on the GPX routes, so I had to follow the line during the trip through the mountains and forests. And you know what? I fell in love with the idea of the tablet and I will get one for my DDX.

    I believe it's called the PR7 because it was originally intended to have a 660cc Yamaha engine comparative with 700cc class, but they changed plans and it uses the much lighter SWM/Husqvarna 600cc single-cylinder, water-cooled engine equipped with a double overhead cam and 4 valves and Athena fuel injection. • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't say that intervals are short. 5K kilometers oil change are quite decent, even so, I think that oil change should be done even more often, cause it gets very dark quite fast. But it's good to know that it can be changed even just after 5K km. I went from Lithuania to Italy via dirt roads and only then did the time for the oil change come up. That's a couple of weeks riding, so did not bother me at all. For my DDX I do the oil changes every 7.5K km or even more often as well.

    • @axelfiraxa
      @axelfiraxa 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that 5k oil change is absolutely normal if you are expected to do offroad on it. If you stick to the street i am sure you can get more km before really needing an oil change.
      Conversely if you do a lot of hard trails 5000km may be a bit long considering the stress the engine will experience

      @nathanbanks7091 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The engine manufacturer recommends checking the valves every 5000km, and replacing the timing chain every 20000km. This engine was originally a race engine, but I think you could stretch that maintenance interval further (after the valves break in) as long as you aren't constantly riding aggressively and you keep the oil clean. Especially if you have the standard 48hp tune. Fortunately with this engine, it is not necessary to remove the cam shafts to adjust the valves, so it is an easy job if you do your own maintenance.
