Basically he said that contrary to popular belief women were able not only to give birth but also to fulfill a man's emotional needs. Generally speaking hetero marriages were considered useful because of the offsprings, but it was thought that only gay relationships were based on true love. I smell an argument that will lead no where coming and thought I'd add my two cents before ducking out. While I do understand that females have a tendency to be physically weaker than males (I admit to being weak even by female standards), there is much more to modern life than brute strength. From a biological perspective, something about humans that's really cool is our ability to come out on top with the power of our minds. There are many animals that would absolutely destroy a human, man or woman, in a one on one fight, so why are we at the top of the food chain? Because our natural state is to create, to adapt, to work beyond our physical limitations, and to work together. This only becomes even more true as our world becomes more and more automated, and abilities in things like people skills, creativity, and STEM become more important than ever. This isn't to say that physical ability doesn't have its place in our world, but intellectual abilities are not to be taken lightly and are not determined by what's in your pants. Mary Shelley didn't need upper body strength to basically invent the science fiction genre, outside of what's needed to pick up a pen, for example. Obviously I'd need some help if I ever got physically attacked, but I live in a civilized society where I'm much more concerned with how I'll pay for college or how I'll balance my non-lucrative creative pursuits with a job that'll feed me, and since plenty of the money-making jobs don't require physical strength, I believe I can overcome these challenges despite having a uterus, because I also have a brain. I didn't mean for this to turn into an essay, but my point is that there's so much more to us than "men strong, women make babies." Men and women alike, I feel, should find their own place in this world that they fit best in, and their gender isn't the only determinate in that descision. If you disagree then that's okay I guess but just remember that gender roles are being broken down every day (and no, I don't believe in tearing men down to achieve this because that just enforces new gender roles that are also harmful) and historically, fighting change tends to be a losing battle, because change is the natural state of the world. But do what you want I guess. I don't know your life.

I've taken a few classes on indigenous people/the relationship eurodescendants have with them and what he said about 'not stealing the land but conquering it' is so so so so false. I'm Canadian so we mostly talked about the situation in Canada, but I imagine that the situation in the USA was somewhat similar. When we are talking about the first European settlements in America, we always have to remember that there were maybe 20 Europeans against... hundreds if not thousands of Native Americans living nearby. The Europeans had to engage in nation-to-nation talks with them, treat them as their equal (even though they didn't consider them as such) because otherwise the indigenous people could've so easily gotten rid of them. It had to be a mutually beneficial relationship (with at least some nations they had alliances with) at the very beginning for it to work. The Europeans were signing treaties and negociating with the Native Americans. You can take that as a sign of a nation-to-nation relationship. The relationship started to shift as more and more settlers arrived in America. That's still not a conquest, they were not defeated, they we robbed and the Europeans didn't keep their promises and stopped treating them as allies when they no longer needed them, and that's that on that (in a very long-story-short manner ofc). **i hate doing the whole EnGliSh isN't mY firSt lanGuagE thing but it really isn't, so i hope that i used the right words to be respectful towards indigenous people and didn't over-oversimplify

@@AndersenTrades well I go to a hs in Italy that focuses on ancient greek and latin history so I just know that, I couldn't tell you what exact source is, but if it is of any help I know Plutarch wrote an Amatory (I think that's what it's called in english) where he had to defend hetero marriages. Basically he said that contrary to popular belief women were able not only to give birth but also to fulfill a man's emotional needs. Generally speaking hetero marriages were considered useful because of the offsprings, but it was thought that only gay relationships were based on true love.

I smell an argument that will lead no where coming and thought I'd add my two cents before ducking out. While I do understand that females have a tendency to be physically weaker than males (I admit to being weak even by female standards), there is much more to modern life than brute strength. From a biological perspective, something about humans that's really cool is our ability to come out on top with the power of our minds. There are many animals that would absolutely destroy a human, man or woman, in a one on one fight, so why are we at the top of the food chain? Because our natural state is to create, to adapt, to work beyond our physical limitations, and to work together. This only becomes even more true as our world becomes more and more automated, and abilities in things like people skills, creativity, and STEM become more important than ever. This isn't to say that physical ability doesn't have its place in our world, but intellectual abilities are not to be taken lightly and are not determined by what's in your pants. Mary Shelley didn't need upper body strength to basically invent the science fiction genre, outside of what's needed to pick up a pen, for example. Obviously I'd need some help if I ever got physically attacked, but I live in a civilized society where I'm much more concerned with how I'll pay for college or how I'll balance my non-lucrative creative pursuits with a job that'll feed me, and since plenty of the money-making jobs don't require physical strength, I believe I can overcome these challenges despite having a uterus, because I also have a brain. I didn't mean for this to turn into an essay, but my point is that there's so much more to us than "men strong, women make babies." Men and women alike, I feel, should find their own place in this world that they fit best in, and their gender isn't the only determinate in that descision. If you disagree then that's okay I guess but just remember that gender roles are being broken down every day (and no, I don't believe in tearing men down to achieve this because that just enforces new gender roles that are also harmful) and historically, fighting change tends to be a losing battle, because change is the natural state of the world. But do what you want I guess. I don't know your life.

I really despise people like this. Especially when they reduce a woman's value to her ability to produce children. Guess I'm useless and have no place or role to play in this world because I had to have a hysterectomy for medical reasons. Nevermind my degrees in Biology and Chemistry and that I'm a medical student. Having struggled with chronic illness and had doctors that were less than helpful at time, I understand what a struggle being in and out of hospitals and outpatient clinics can be. Hopefully I can help improve quality of life for patients.

I've taken a few classes on indigenous people/the relationship eurodescendants have with them and what he said about 'not stealing the land but conquering it' is so so so so false. I'm Canadian so we mostly talked about the situation in Canada, but I imagine that the situation in the USA was somewhat similar. When we are talking about the first European settlements in America, we always have to remember that there were maybe 20 Europeans against... hundreds if not thousands of Native Americans living nearby. The Europeans had to engage in nation-to-nation talks with them, treat them as their equal (even though they didn't consider them as such) because otherwise the indigenous people could've so easily gotten rid of them. It had to be a mutually beneficial relationship (with at least some nations they had alliances with) at the very beginning for it to work. The Europeans were signing treaties and negociating with the Native Americans. You can take that as a sign of a nation-to-nation relationship. The relationship started to shift as more and more settlers arrived in America. That's still not a conquest, they were not defeated, they we robbed and the Europeans didn't keep their promises and stopped treating them as allies when they no longer needed them, and that's that on that (in a very long-story-short manner ofc).

Because they often don't. When other men or even women (of any race) bad talk black women, I've yet to observe a black man defend her. Black women are wrong and so are black men. But men want to be the backbone and have respect given to them...so that means they must do a lot of hard work to reestablish themselves and earn it.
