Late comment: I had several of my videos deleted on tiktok about topics such as racism etc within minutes. I think it’s insane how fast they censor videos that aren’t even bad but can’t properly handle a serious situation like this.
bc its the government China. dead bodies? no prob. the Government kills their own people on the DAILY. a mind-altering drug with minimal negative side effects? nope. bc it would promote creative thinking and a more humane existence, two things in which the Chinese Government places NO VALUE. #ChinaiskillingUighars
people that are siding with tiktok and people that are telling stories of other apps and websites doing the same thing and dismissing suicides and suicidal people on their platforms saying that they can’t do anything about it is bullshit. there’s is 100% things that can be done. if you report something or contact the company and say that there’s been a suicide on the platform or someone planning a suicide or someone being suicidal that company should take it upon themselves to contact the police, or you contact the police yourself if you’re really that worried for the individual’s safety. the police are able to track that persons IP address from their account or username or email or device and are able to notify a department in that area to deal with the situation. instead of siding with companies and platforms while they slide all this shady shit under the rug, speak out for what’s right.
imagine watching someone die, texting all your friends about it, having a normal conversation with each of them while you are standing right next to the body, and 3 hours later finally calling the police. that is exactly what tik tok did but instead of talking with friends they were literally trying to look good
No it’s three hours before they even told the MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS and 4 before they told the cops, they were to busy covering up a death that might be considered a murder for deleting evidence of a suicide and caring about themselves
@@silviahedge2005 and whats worse is that its hard for children and people in general to talk about the trauma. Imagine how hard it would be for them to deal with that.
I don’t understand how they couldn’t have taken the time to call the police before they contacted their PR team? Like, a ten minute call could’ve potentially saved this kids life and avoided all this.
chelsea a My assumption is that they didn’t call the police because it would’ve then been in law enforcement’s power to make it public, which is exactly what they were trying to avoid. Disgusting and disgraceful.

Just imagine this though, a 8 or 9 year old goes on Tik Tok and sees that one of their favourite people are live. They click on the stream and see a dead body. That would traumatise them for who know how long and Tik Tok just tried to pretend it didn’t happen? Honestly what lengths are they willing to go to in order to protect their brand? This is disgusting
This case has been covered a little bit by Brazilian media, but just a little bit, it's not enough at all. It's disgusting how they prioritize their public image rather than someone's life, specially since the main user demographic of the app is teenagers, but no surprise coming from an company (only the $$ matters).
Disgusting, I can’t imagine how the family felt knowing that tiktok did nothing. They obviously didn’t have time to save the 19 year old from what he did, but they literally just let his body sit for hours without letting the authorities know.
Agreed, except that he might have been alive, they should have gotten an ambulance to him straight away. People have survived being shot in the head before. I don't know how badly he hurt himself, but we should always try to get an ambulance out to people who are hurt. The police could have located him by his phone, even if he turned geo location off. Either way, terrible that they did nothing.
@@leona_maliekal plus it doesnt even make sense why they would hide it. its not their fault he commited the act in the first place so why hide it? its not like people would get mad at tiktok for the kid who killed himself, what they would get mad at is the slow reaction time, the part where they didnt notify the authorities, and everything D'angelo mentioned in the video. they just let it pile up as the problem went on instead of just doing something about it immediatly. and we all know where procrasinating brings us (spoiler alert: nothing good)
yess omg!!! and I get the same weird and uncomfortable feeling that I get after watching a black mirror episode (LOVE the show, but that feeling its crazzyyyy uncomfortable which is what the show is also going for).
@Caleb OKAY Collecting data on Americans is miniscule compared to what they do to foreigners in their own country. They literally put minorities in concentration camps. It's horrific and I can't believe that nobody bats an eye...
i deleted tiktok 2 months ago, and I've literally never been happier. I can actually finish work, and there's so much less toxicity, negativity, and stupid challenges in my life.
studypancake all of my friends have it, and they tell me that they will end up watching it for hours without noticing because it’s so addicting, so I’m glad I don’t have it. Also, I don’t want to support a company that does things like this. Who knows what other things they’ve done that we don’t know about?
Yeah I had it before too back in 2019, then deleted it the next day. It is actually really distracting anddd I only got the app because other people had it, like one of my friends..
Imagine being the family of the victim and finding out that the app's management team knew about what their loved one did for hours and didn't report it and didn't even suffer any consequences. This is unacceptable and should not be ignored by mainstream media.
@@MK_ULTRA420 It's 2020. That doesn't excuse TikTok contacting PR first instead of the police. That doesn't change the fact that someone killed themselves and you said "LOL".

I feel horrible for the people on the live stream imagine being there and being exited to see the "surprise" and everyone in the chat is all exited then he get ready to kill himself and everyone start begging him to not and he does and people just sit there and what without being able to help

One of my friends was dancing in a bikini cuz we were at the pool and it got taken down. I was looking at tiktok and saw these girls doing really sexual dances in revealing bikinis that were still up. What the fuck tiktok.
Depending on the way he took his life, if someone had reported it right away, he could have been saved, and could be alive today, and there would be little to no drama for tik tok. Its sickening how they took so long when they could've taken action right away and might have have saved someone. I hate tik tok. Its horrible. They don't deserve their fame.

I agree wholeheartedly. He has such a grounded, down to earth personality. I enjoy his outlook and perspective on things. It's become a rarity to find in the sea of people constantly fighting to be the best at gaining followers. I tend to enjoy creators that make more of a "real talk" type of video.
Quick PSA, so everyone knows, just in case any one of you dear-hearts ever find yourselves in the same situation that the 200 people watching this young man's livestream on Tik Tok found themselves in; You *can* do something, you are not helpless. If you ever stumble across someone online either threatening to harm themselves or others... 1.Take screenshots/start recording 2.Copy and save URLs, usernames or any available information about the "user" (including any relevant links to other social media accts.) 3.Call law enforcement; Either your local police station directly, your local non emergency line or the FBI tip line (it's not scary, or a huge deal to call the FBI, in fact when things like this happen the FBI literally wants you to call, so don't be afraid. You can also remain completely anonymous, so, again, do not be afraid to call the FBI... Unless you're a horrible person and trying to SWAT someone, then yes, be afraid) *Also, the suicide prevention hotline, if for whatever reason you don't want to call law enforcement, you can call one of the many suicide prevention numbers and they will help you.. 4.Explain what you saw, your concerns and offer all the information you have. Remember you do not need a real name or location, just be able to tell law enforcement what you saw and exactly where/when you saw it (though it is especially helpful if you were able to screenshot, record or provide links to relevant information). Perhaps if even one of the people watching that livestream had called law enforcement maybe this story could have turned out differently, or at the very least not been covered up. This is a really scary part of social media that young people are exposed to all the time now, and sadly there is nowhere near enough helpful information out there about what they should actually do.. "Tell an adult" just isn't enough anymore, and with the dissociation that our screens provide many feel either helpless or that someone else will handle it.. If your gut tells you something is wrong don't just ignore it or wait for someone else, just go ahead and report it. If you're under 18 ask a parent or a teacher, show them what you're seeing and ask them to help you report it. But don't be afraid to call law enforcement, it's what they are there for and, honestly, its it's better to go with your gut and be wrong instead of ignoring it and someone losing their life. All of the numbers to report to are available online, there are multiple for the FBI, you can even call your local suicide prevention hotline anonymously and provide any and all information to them directly instead of law enforcement. If you see something don't be afraid to say something.
Have you had and shared somewhere your own experiences contacting the FBI over this type of situation? Sadly the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline wasn't able to help in my particular case when someone I just met online made mention of wanting to commit suicide due to the lack of personal information I had about the person. Thankfully that situation resolved itself with a favorable outcome but a similar situation has happened before (I didn't dare seek help at the time but thankfully my friend is well) and I suspect it could happen again in the future.
This happened in my city. The craziest thing to me is that the first time I heard about it was.... when you tweeted ab it? No one else seems to be talking about it, no big outlets mentioned it. The articles I saw were - shocker - Insider and some other sites copying the same article. I mean, this happened like 40 minutes away from my home, but I only hear ab bc I follow an American youtuber? That does mean they did their job perfectly, but that's not a good thing. So, I was reading the whole "Escalation" document, and I noticed a few things. First, there is a Brazilian office with moderation, but livestreams are moderated by the Chinese team. At that hour, it would be in the middle of the night in China, but moderation teams work around the clock. Did someone fall asleep at their desk? And then, the first two "bans" that happened on his account, were not bc of content, it was bc he was motionless and the app automatically assumes there is no one broadcasting. There was, however, quite the amount of engagement: in that 1 hour and a half, there were 497 comments and it was flagged 15 (FIFTEEN!) times. They still didn't see it. (And the people watching couldn't do anything else, I presume. If you see something like that and you don't even know the person, how can you call the police or do anything?) Then, when they finally know it's happening, they start calling the LATAM manager (based in China) like crazy, and she comes online and her main order is: don't let if become viral. And of course, that means damage control, including that note to the press. And if you take a good look at their "To-do list", calling law enforcement is the seventh item on the list. Also I saw that his body arrived at the morgue 9 minutes after they called the police. Why? Because at that time the police was already informed, because at that moment his family had already found him like that. And as a side note: TikTok has not contacted his family so far. And finally, they did gave a statement to the Intercept. The statement is pratically the same pre-package thing they had in stock and some BS about "our heart goes to the family". Right, the family you didn't even contact. The family that found their kid like that bc you were too busy writing statements and trying to cover it up. Sorry ab the long comment. I'm so f***ing MAD about this. I can't believe people are so desensitized they just don't seem to care about this case and others similar ones.
Geez it just gets worse the more I learn about it. I am from Brazil too (not from South through) and it's just weird that most people learned it from a American TH-camr. Because it was just negligence. This kid could be alive if someone had just did something, it the moods just called the family or the police. But nah... money it's more important than a 19 years old life!
News outlets or anything big like that usually dont report on suicides. Once, sometime in the fifties, a news outlet reported on a persons suicide and suicide rates for the next two weeks were up by around 60%.
@@metro_5017 depends on the writing. If the author of the paper is impassive to it, and it translates in their writing, people will feel less cared for. That's why they call it 'the power of words in journalism'.

Lets admit it now, TikTok is some disgusting app that is shit, full of children who dress up in such revealing clothes looking for attention as they dance to songs related to literally anything and *everything,* has pedophiles everywhere, keeps tabs on us and doesn’t give a shit about their audience and only cares about having a good reputation and money.
i dont like to post my face on there, but once i posted something with my face in it, and another without back to back and the one with my face got 2 views and 0 likes, the one without my face got 40 views and 11 likes within the same time. I was like wait-
@Sean Wilkinson I mean, he straight up prefaced this video with a trigger warning, so I'm under the iimpression that it's a mixture of both. The fact that he said there is triggering stuff here suggests he wouldn't speak super carelessly about a topic like this even if TH-cam wasn't ruthless in how it withholds money from creators.
@ELF if he added a trigger warning then why would he care what language he uses, shouldn't everyone who's uncomfortable with that stuff have already left the video? Saying things like the words suicide isn't careless or disrespectful, it's just what it's called, so I don't see why he would have any qualms against using it
The fact that I’m Brazilian, it happened in my state/city and I really didn’t know about this until now (almost two years after) just proves that TikTok really tried to hid it from the public. It’s awful how this platform works. Extremely disgusting.
i wasn't a fan of D'angelo, but when i started watching him it felt like i was always a fan... did he come form an alternative universe and establish himself here with the knowledge he had in the other universe ?...
This is similar to the rorochan situation where a 13-14 year old girl livestreamed herself jumping out of a building and her last words were "to be a legend"
Im pretty sure it wasn't tiktok on this one. If I remember well it was a plataform that allowed nsfw content. Her audience were pretty much pedophiles.
@@bait8112 yeah it was never on tiktok, it was on a Japanese website and you had to be over 18 to even access the NSFW content and she is just releasing it herself.
I don't think those were her last words. She did let out a scream when she hit/before she hit the ground. Rorochan had a Japanese account where she posted videos. People were challenging her to jump off and _be a legend_ while telling her that she probably wouldn't do it. When the J-Pop song based off Rorochan's case was released, a person commented on her twitter or social media account, on her last tweet or something, something of this sort : _Congratulations. The world is a little noisy_ _You got what you wanted_ People were *encouraging* her to jump off. It's screwed up.
Always had a bad feeling about TikTok, and people constantly say I should download it. After watching this, I’m definitely not supporting this shady app.
AND you should bring that shady shit, as well as all the lurking pedos on it, every time someone tells you to download it even if just for the fun. I hate this app just bc I know how many kids use it and the comment that I just read in here about what happened to their 9yo nice makes me hate it even more. I want it to crash and burn and stay down this time.
This. People act like I’m mad or crazy because I don’t have TikTok (and considering I’m a 12 year old girl, not having TikTok to those people is the equivalent of being 80 years old) but they are completely unaware of the crap happening on there. My friends have told me stories of how people were pretending to be them, getting creepy-ass texts and other stuff, and then act like I’m missing out. No thank you, boo. Don’t want to use a social media that wouldn’t care if I broadcasted my death.
If you normalize murder, suicide, rape, etc you’re not normal, nor is these circumstances normal. This generation needs help and a set of educated minds. And please don’t debate with “but I have dark humor, but horror movies glorify these types of things, it’s not that deep” having your own type of sense of humor does not discard the fact that you feel as though it’s okay to see someone kill themself AND MOVIES ARE FICTIONAL FILMS unless they are based on a true event. Other than that, if you have nothing nice to say or anything that makes sense, don't say anything at all! Rip to that boy 🙌🏾 edit: i appreciate everyone who commented but not only did not misread my message. although, this is my opinion, it is still well truthful in some aspects. as a community of youth, we should be more mindful of what we do on the internet and to others, and to be more aware and to spread awareness for issues like these. i have personally. been suicidal recently and have struggles; mental wise. it took me a lot of balls to say that even in a youtube comment section. so i hope you see where i’m coming from. stay safe guys. thank you! ❤️ #blacklivesmatter
People really be out here like "have you never been on the internet before??" Like Idk what they're searching but I've been using it for over ten years and I've never come across real murders and shit even by accident that definitely isn't a normal thing to be witnessing
Normalizing serious conversation about murder, suicide, and rape absolutely needs to happen. Normalizing pictures or videos of these things? Absolutely not. I love horror movies and dark comedy, but that doesn't make any of this less serious. We need to talk openly about these things so people don't remain misinformed and so we can take care of each other. The fact that a huge corporation hid this kid's suicide from his family and the local police for HOURS is more horrifying than any movie I've ever fucking seen, and it's nauseating to think that this is the kind of thing companies are even CAPABLE of covering up. I hope that family can take TikTok to court.
Belle The Horse Agreed. I’ve heard and seen some crazy shit and it was all unintentional, I would have never thought TikTok could hide something like that. Definitely being more aware of these types of situations can be a benefit down the line but it’s not normal to see that on a daily bases, I don’t know about everyone else but majority would feel the same way.
I just found a couple of people that are like this. One person even said that it won't give them PTSD or affect them, that they will just eventually forget about them as if that applies to everyone.
K L What an ignorant comment. People commit suicide because they are victims of their own mind, they feel so depressed and low and hopeless that they would do something as extreme as take their own life.
At this point your commentary is journalism. All commentary channels have that potential, and many reach that potential, but you in particular approach this subject matter with the necessary amount of respect and level-headedness, which is more than many commentary channels do, and A LOT more than many newspapers/TV news anchors/etc do. This is tragic news, but I'd rather get it from you than from many other news sources, because I know you cover news as accurately as possible.
"You may have noticed I took 2 days off" It's not like I checked my notifications several times for 2 days in a row to see if your content was there or anything.
Although I can't verify that they are true, just the fact that looking up "tiktok suicide" brings up other alleged cases is extremely concerning. On another note but equally important, we dont need Tiktok anymore, since Vine's back. It's just called byte now.

Tik Tok moderation is weird to say the least, some says political stuff is forbidden while there is tons of political and not always favorable to China that are popular, some are banned, some articles says that LGBT stuff is banned or shadow banned while some LGBT+ creators are really popular, it's weird and unclear.

Yeah, it became viral in Latin America and then everywhere else because some idiots were saying it was a "cursed" video and if you watched it and didn't write that number you'll die.
a month ago due to a fight between creators on TH-cam against tiktok, so many people of India gave 1 star rating to tiktok(as revenge) but 2 weeks later tiktok brought the average rating back to 4! they literally went to Google and made negative rating taken down. good thing that tiktok is banned in India now💅

I think an important thing to note is that if we all did a “strike”?(I think that’s what it’s called) against TikTok it wouldnt affect the people who did this. It would just affect the Creators on the app.
Not bad idea, just it's pretty much impossible with just how many people on that platform. especially the people who are big on it, and seeing how tiktok runs making a video on tiktok will probably be taken down so communication on this matter is gonna be hard unless it gets everywhere. and fast

facebook does the same thing, it's eerie. A while back a friend and I were discussing how we were planning to handle the eventual death of our pets, and a day later she started getting ads for animal cremation services.
There’s a video on TH-cam as well that proves that somethings really weird with Google. The guy mention dog toys in the microphone (and he specifically says “ a red and black color dog toys”) and then goes into google and randomly starts searching for news( I think) and he starts getting ads for dog toys. Around at the end of the video, he gets an ad that exactly shows what he wanted, dog toys in colors black and red.
same thing happened to me with vaseline. i started using it on my lips and said the word vaseline a few times in front of my phone and started getting literal vaseline ads
There’s something called terms and conditions read it. They listen and track cookies on certain apps and can collect data from your web browser. You wouldn’t sign a contract without reading it first right?! The companies tell you exactly what they are doing. You, yourself have to accept the terms. You are essentially agreeing to be spied on.
I'd bet the main reason it didn't get covered in mainstream media is that the actual event happened a year ago and tik tok isn't currently engaged in any particular activity that would focus coverage on them. The mainstream media has an insane, laser-like focus on the immediate present, such that they're barely willing to cover things that happened a week ago, even if there's now more information than there was at the time. They're addicted to those "breaking news" banners.

True story. My friend was having an extremely bad breakdown and talking about suicide and saying they were going to do it. I called the suicide hotline (you can call for yourself or other people) and they said they would do a well fare check. I gave them his address and full name and I told my friend I called and that people were coming. And guess what happened? NOTHING. I managed to talk him out of it so at least it didn’t end badly but still. MY FRIEND COULD’VE DIED and the hotline didn’t do shit for it. I’ve had to call the hotline for myself and they just talk to you like a high school counselor. They aren’t trained and are probably over worked.

1.Take screenshots/start recording
2.Copy and save URLs, usernames or any available information about the "user" (including any relevant links to other social media accts.)
3.Call law enforcement; Either your local police station directly, your local non emergency line or the FBI tip line (it's not scary, or a huge deal to call the FBI, in fact when things like this happen the FBI literally wants you to call, so don't be afraid.
Yeah I agree
Bruh you could be a child's idol with this comment. I'm impressed
I am with you if somebody is in need you need to help them
How did he even commit the deed
If you see something like that and you don't even know the person, how can you call the police or do anything?)
Then, when they finally know it's happening, they start calling the LATAM manager (based in China) like crazy, and she comes online and her main order is: don't let if become viral.
But nah... money it's more important than a 19 years old life!
tldr
News outlets or anything big like that usually dont report on suicides. Once, sometime in the fifties, a news outlet reported on a persons suicide and suicide rates for the next two weeks were up by around 60%.
Reporting on suicides compels others to commit suicide too

edit: i appreciate everyone who commented but not only did not misread my message. although, this is my opinion, it is still well truthful in some aspects.
as a community of youth, we should be more mindful of what we do on the internet and to others, and to be more aware and to spread awareness for issues like these.
i have personally. been suicidal recently and have struggles; mental wise. it took me a lot of balls to say that even in a youtube comment section. so i hope you see where i’m coming from.
stay safe guys.
EXACTLY
The true victims is the person that lost their life, and his family.
Tiktok, you are disgusting.
BlankPapper How is he a victim when he killed himself ? 🤔 suicide is a sin
BlankPapper Victims are people things happen to
K L What an ignorant comment. People commit suicide because they are victims of their own mind, they feel so depressed and low and hopeless that they would do something as extreme as take their own life.
K L what you just said is ignorant, disrespectful, and distasteful. I’m pretty sure that that is is a sin.

It’s called a boycott. A strike is when the workers stop working
Not bad idea, just it's pretty much impossible with just how many people on that platform. especially the people who are big on it, and seeing how tiktok runs making a video on tiktok will probably be taken down so communication on this matter is gonna be hard unless it gets everywhere. and fast
so i downloaded musically/tiktok a while ago, and i also got into kpop around that time, so while i was watching tiktok videos, i noticed that one of my favorite kpop band made a new music video, so i called one of my kpop friends and told her, after that i was bored so i went into tiktok and RANDOMLY i got tiktoks of the EXACT music video the kpop fans were talking about, keep in mind i didnt know that kpop fans were in musically/tiktok.
facebook does the same thing, it's eerie.
It's official that any device with a microphone listens in on what you say. That includes phones, tablets, computers and alexa
My friend was having an extremely bad breakdown and talking about suicide and saying they were going to do it.
