I love British TV shows. Not only the scripted fictional ones but even these “real life” ones because they do it so well. Also kudos to these border force police. They are so calm and respectful even when people are lying to their face. This is not the case in other countries including the US.

Saying I feel violated to a police officer, is an American thing. It doesn't work in Europe. European laws are different. An immigration officer has the right to search in your luggage, even in the US , if he suspects something fishy.

I'm with you on that and especially when the US citizen is not in the US. Things may be handled differently outside the US, and it's the border agents job to search bags and interview visitors before they are allowed in. Any individual trying to enter another country should always just be truthful of why they are wanting to visit and be prepared to show proof of funds, return ticket, etc.

Really? I know what you mean, and you think that everyone everywhere can get the proper, legal documentation to enter the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 and other first-world countries? (According to “you” “Miss Perfectly Fortunate” it is often easier said than done.” Everyone’s circumstances are totally different). Anyway if everyone were to do that then we would be living in a perfect Utopia and this particular television episode talks about “clandestine” and illegal immigrants would not even exist at all. However, that is not reality and have you ever heard of that saying: “do not judge me or others who are going through a difficult time unless you walk a mile in their shoes.” It is a lot easier to pass ridicule and condemnation onto others without listening to their experiences first. The system out there at times can be totally cruel.

When developed countries wage war in underdeveloped countries with natural resources w the pretext of stopping terrorism, you will find pple desperate to survive at their borders. Woth the exception of a handful that are straight up just trying to weasel their way into a better life, am easier way, there are many who are genuine refugees who have or don't know of any other way to make a living or safely do anything other than keep pushing at the borders where they land.
I really appreciate how respectful and courteous the officers are. They are firm, thorough, and not demeaning. Immigration control us def important in managing a country but foreign policy is also better to be revised in a globalized economy where there are so many countries being geopolitically used without concern for the smaller people who receive the short end of the stick. With climate change, things will get worse unfortunately.

Yeah I do hate it when they go through ya stuff. I ended up crying and asking them what are they looking for? They said “ there is white powder on ur top”. I’m a big last, disabled and in a wheelchair. I said “why didn’t u ask me1 hour ago? - it’s called Curash - I was flying from a Sydney To Gatwick UK so I put powder all over me so my skin would stay dry. They all stood there gobsmacked then they pushed the bag over to me to pack it and I burst into tears & said “ are u kidding me!!” So because I was right 3 came over and packed for me and last thing they added was the 2 bottles of curash I had for my 28 day trip. I was crying before I even left home from my own country. When I got to Gatwick they were soooo nice but they had missed place some stuff I bought on the plane I gave them my new number. That night after 36hrs of travelling my gf answered my phone and they had it. So we had to get back on a train for over 4 hrs back to Gatwick lol. They were very nice. All the countries I went to after that were lovely. Though when I did get home the customs guy were walking down the line asking questions because there was this Asian lady fighting with them. The custom guy said “ what are u declaring? “. I said “ my medication “ he goes “ come with me and points to way out. Lol. They had just finished filming and. Everything was backed up. To this day I dunno how they knew I had put powder on without them seeing it. I had a shower then the powder and they said it was on my top. So I know they have special equipment to see beyond ur clothes. Poor buggars seeing me nude LOL 😝

Those that take AVR should be made to pay it back if they return illegally. Also, the illegals should be allowed permanent residency if they go to court and testify against the people smugglers. This legal tactic would break the back of smuggling organizations as each potential customer is a witness against them. While a few may stay because of this arrangement, it stops the bulk of any future smugglers.

If found to be not genuine or fraudulent, they would be returned to their home country and barred from ever applying again. These ideas of using low hanging fruit to reach higher rewards isn't new. Criminal prosecutions are built on such ideas; using low level criminals to flip on their more significant higher ups. What's been stopping this is that the illegals are afraid to be deported so that fear is a great barrier to successful investigation and prosecution of the people smugglers. Take away that fear and the people smugglers immediately become very vulnerable.

I agree that they shouldn't enter illegally, mostly because they are breaking the entering country's law, and that won't ever turn out well for them. I think a lot of people take the gamble because of how difficult life is where they're from, and they are truly desperate enough to make the seemingly foolish decision to enter illegally. Yeah, there are those who are probably criminals and on the run, or what have you, but I don't think that they outnumber, or even come close to the number of those who are just desperate for work and a better life.
Also, trying to enter another country, particular a western country, when you are from a certain list of countries, it can be nearly impossible. Even if you have all of your ducks in a row and a clean record. The whole system is complicated and like everything on this Earth, imperfect.

For us, we have to prove adequate funds and employment, as well as a letter from our employers stating that we will be working once we return from our trip. That saves a lot of money, time and headaches. If that American guy had gone through the same steps we do, he would have been denied his visa straight from his home country and not wasted so much money flying from the US to the UK as an unemployed person.
Some people should be grateful that being a student with a powerful passport, they can just pitch up in a Schengen or UK zone with no plans, and have a frugal holiday.
