Lyle A very nice looking bowl. You have given me some great information on grain cutting that I will use. Every video I watch of yours has a lot of information that I can come back and use and watch in case I get confused. Thanks again. The crotch wood really makes an interesting look.
My question is to the person that gave this video a thumbs down? What's not to like? Are you even a Woodturner? Lyle is a master, we are lucky he posts these videos! 2 thumbs up!
Once again a great explanation of the process of moving your axis to get the lowest point a little more even with the other side... Thanks again, great bowl design. I love working with the unique patterns as well in the crotch wood....
I'm new and struggled with the inside of the bowl. I'm definitely going with the glue block as soon as I can get to town to get some stronghold glues and accelerator. Thanks
Nice to hear from you Stephen, Use only the thick CA glue for my process. A better resource to see my methods is my Bowl Basics DVD. The TH-cam videos are only small pieces of the puzzle. Did you see I am doing Interactive Remote Demonstrations? My next one is on 5-5-21 and I will be doing a hollow form with a natural edge opening. Two and a half hours Live and Interactive on Zoom. See my web site store to register. lylejamieson.com/product-category/live-interactive-remote-demonstrations/
Thanks for the lesson Lyle. The trick of using a laser pointer to check the rim is a good one. The time spent getting it right in the beginning certainly paid off-nice work.
+Gerald Shultz Hi Gerald, thanks for the feedback. My DVDs would be better to see the whole process. Enjoy and have fun. Merry Christmas -- Wishing you a wonderful Holiday and a Joyous New Year.
Great Video Lyle, keeping it simple and doing what the wood wants. A great way to go. I'll return to the shop for simple videos tomorrow. It's been more than a year and I really do miss it. Thanks for the video. Cap'n Eddie Castelin
+Eddie Castelin Hi Cap'n, It is really nice to hear from you. I have seen your recent videos and I am thrilled to see you back in action. Keep on the recovery mode. Thanks for writing.
Thanks Emiliano, I question that too. I wonder what they were looking for when they were disappointed enough to put a thumbs down. I wish they would leave a comment so I had some feedback.
Truly a beautiful piece and thank you for sharing the selection of the axis process you use. Really makes sense after seeing the final shape. I am surprised to learn that you take a wet blank to finished piece with only a couple days between the turning and final sanding/finishing. Is this your normal process? Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers, Gord
Hey nice! So I DID complete that other project I found in Hyezmar's Woodworking Bible. Walter is also working on one of his ideas, look for it on google, I forgot the url!
I’ve been turning a couple of years now and just found your channel. I’m really getting so much out of it. Thank you for posting all of these educational videos. One question on this one. What speed are you turning at?
Thanks for writing Steven. I turn fast, Fast is better. The speed will depend on the diameter of the work. That bowl was about 9 inches in diameter so I was turning around 1000 RPM. That assumes you have paid attention to details of good holding practices I use like not using a chuck. My Bowl Basics DVD is a much better teaching tool than the TH-cam clips.
+Andrew Ackley I had Doug Thompson make, exclusively for me, a parabolic flute. He had to get special tooling because the "V" and "U" he uses will not do what I want. My bowl gouge is much more versatile. Since we started with a new flute design I had him make the flute splayed out wider and cut it deeper than any other gouge. The result is a bigger more friendly sweet spot. It is more forgiving in many respects.
I've always wanted to know what motivates someone to down vote a video like this. Its as if the person doing the thumbs downing would vote to cancel getting an education or advocate for people not learning to read or something. So its hard to imagine that anyone would give this video a thumbs down for any other reason than that the person that made this video disagreed with someone somewhere else on TH-cam and the other person was so butthurt and petty that they trolled this man's videos down voting his stuff out of pure spite of the maker, not in judgment of the video, its content, or the quality of the information in the video. I'd go as far to guess that the man who made this video did exactly that and hurt some liberals feelings by simply disagreeing with them and they went all over this man's channel down voting everything he's done. Thats the only explanation for a down vote here considering that the quality of the video is top notch as far as the instructional quality goes because this turner knows his stuff without any doubt and has a good fashion of explaining his steps making it understandable and informative. Anyway, good video man, you solved a problem I was having with getting into the bottom and getting deeper into the inside to make a more rounded and deeper interior of the bowl. Thanks for making it man 👍🏼👍🏼

+Richard Coyle Thanks Richard. I hope to have more frequent postings. Each will cover different elements of turning.

Thank you Lyle, are you filming your work with the veterans
No, I did not film any of it. The VIV show was a huge success on many levels. We are planning other events. Sorry for the tardy reply.
Great video Lyle, Cheers, Harry

Great video. Was that a U shaped or V shaped bowl gouge? Do you have a preference and why? Very much enjoy the video.
