    This week I decided to put up a video on the techniques of the bowl gouge. I covered a push cut, a pull cut, a sheer scraping cut, a finishing cut, and how I sharpen my bowl gouge. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below! Thank you for watching and please subscribe!

    After watching countless videos by other "professional" woodturners, I haver to say that your demonstration and explanation of the use of the bowl gouge was extremely clear and understandable. Showing that gouge do all of the work from beginning to end has given me inspiration to try bowls again. Great video! Thanks Peter...

    I am brand new to woodturning and turned my first practice bowl a day ago. Your video is very informative and has provided a lot of insight into what I am doing wrong with my technique. Not only that, but your positive encouragement is also very refreshing. Thank you.

    Man, I watched a bunch of videos on bowl turning and bowl gouges and this was the best for a beginner, thanks for taking the time to explain it so well. I almost didn't click on it because of the length but there was no fluff and it was well worth the time, I like your style!

    Hey! I am very new to wood turning and have been watching several videos on how to use the tools. I just came across yours today and I must say that I have learned more on your video for the bowl gouge than the others. The way you have explained things and shown close ups simplified it and made it easier and I now see what I have been doing wrong. Thank you! I will definitely be watching the others!

    Absolutely fantastic tutorial, I'm 55, and very new to wood turning. I have been looking at many other videos about how to use the different tools, yours is the best by far. My only suggestion is (if you can) ditch your fluro lights on your videos - that is the source of the light/dark slow flicker on some of the close ups.

    Peter, this is the best instructional video I have watched on the Tube. Like some of the other comments you do an excellent job explaining and most importantly clearly showing the tool presentation. That is something that is most often missing when someone is showing techniques. I just subscribed “2020” to you you channel and plan on viewing more of your great work. Thanks for sharing. 👍

    Do Robert sorry do a 5/8 bowl gouge because I can’t find one anywhere?

    • @Ron_Radliff
      @Ron_Radliff ปีที่แล้ว

      I know I'm late in this, but others may have the same question. Here in America, we measure our bowl gouges by the full diameter of the gouge. In England, they measure the distance across the top of the flutes of a bowl gouge. A 5/8" gouge in the States is the same as a 1/2" in England. Likewise, 1/2 US = 3/8 English and 3/8 US = 1/4 English. If Sorby has what they call a 5/8, that would be equivalent to 3/4 in America. Hope this helps even if a bit late.

    Inside bowl; why you lean over uncomfortable looking at your cut? Stand up comfortably and look on the opposite side to see the results of your cut can see much better and don’t hurt your body from long period uncomfortable leaning over...maybe you’ll do it when your older and your old body starts hurting

  • @jarmstrong2843
    @jarmstrong2843 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I learned TH-cam is full of videos that provide good information. It is also full of videos that provide not so good information.
    Your video is good; at least for the first 20 minutes. When you demonstrated the skew type technique using a bowl gouge and having the gouge vertical, it is a recipe for disaster and very unsafe. I showed the video to several turners who have been turning wood for 30, 40, 50 and more years, they all shuttered about using that technique. It will only take one catch and you may be singing soprano in your next video. I would not recommend to anyone to use this technique. Play it safe and ride the bevel.
    Be careful in what you recommend or demonstrate in your videos. No matter how many disclaimers you put in the video, it does not absolve you from legal responsibilities when you provide unsafe information. You may end up paying a whole lot of money defending yourself in the legal system and potentially paying outlandish damages. I recommend taking this portion out of your video that otherwise provides good info.
