Thank you so much for your videos. They have taken a lot of the work out of turning and increased the fun of the hobby. The videos have been a great help.
Hello Lyle, how happy am i that i found your site. You are a real good teacher and i think that watching and listening to you i will come on leap and bounds. Best Regards Roger Crook
Love your videos Lyle. So clear and easy to understand. They make really good refresher courses when you haven't turned for a long while. I download them so I can watch at home anytime.
I had an accident several years ago that left me with TBI (traumatic brain injury) and at times it's difficult for me to understand things clearly. Your teaching style/method is the best I have found on TH-cam for me to be able to understand turning principals and I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your videos and the way you teach!!! Sometimes I have to watch numerous times but still you make it easy for me to understand things I've been struggling for years to comprehend. Thank you and God bless you Lyle! Tim
Thanks Tim, Have you seen my Bowl Basics DVD?? It is a much better way to see the entire process. I have worked with many vets with injuries and, yes, I am blessed to be able to share with you all. I receive more than I could ever give.
No Sir I haven't seen the DVD but I'll definitely check it out. I've been turning for 2-3 years now but I'm only now beginning to truly understand some of the basic principles thanks to your wonderful teaching. I meant to check out your website last night but I was so consumed by watching your videos that I forgot. The accident (severe electrical shock to the head) also left me with narcolepsy and memory problems so the DVD will be great for convenient refreshing! Many thanks Lyle, Tim PS. I often times refer to it as an accident, when in fact it was a very stupid mistake on my part. ;- )
Thanks so much for this. As a beginning wood turner this type of information is invaluable. What speed were you running your lathe when you were doing your shearing cuts?
Mark, the speed of the lathe will depend on the size of the bowl. I turn faster than most, as fast as I can without vibration. The faster the wood goes by the tool the better the surface is left behind. Slow pace across the tool rest and fast lathe speed will mean less sanding. Sheer scraping requires faster speeds for a good cut.
