Do you have review of the latest 4k (3840 x 2160) monitor in 27 and 32 inch monitors? I was considering BenQ SW272U/SW321C (but now seems very old model) vs your review on Asus ProArt PA279CRV 2 years ago as above. I need a 4K high resolution monitor for photo and occasional video editing and for office use such excel, word, etc. A monitor with good contract ratio and low Delta E but perhaps to include Adobe RGB as well. Whilst HDR is not so important at this stage it would be good to have the minimum requirement for HDR. I would normally sit 2.5ft away from the monitor but could push to 3 ft max.Are these monitors truly 10 bit panel or 8bit +...?
This video is HIGHLY underrated!!! I've been researching for over a week trying to find the best 4k monitor for my video editing workflow and I just stumbled upon this video. It's helped me immensely better understand all the settings, different panel types, and pros/cons of different monitors. Thank you Tymek for creating this video to help give clarity to people looking for a new monitor!!
I finally found it bro for a long time.. thank you so much for this video. So then, which is the best video editing monitor you recommended for me to buy??
For the money at $350 my wife went with the Asus Pro Art 2K Monitor w/90W USB-C connection and 144hz with the 100% on everything but DCI-P3 which was at 95%. Was a no brainer for everything you're getting. Being that she does Crochet videos, and does them at high bit rate 1440P resolution and then converts them to 1080p because of the run time.
Wow. Man it's very rare I'd give a compliment. You're very very good at delivering data and details. I'm writing down and I'll have to look back. So much value
This video is highly underrated! The amount of information available and in the easy understanding of that is so good. I have been looking to purchase a monitor and this helped a lot!

This was really good info for sure I do have one question I would like to ask though. and maybe you didn't get to touch on this and didn't put it in your video. Did you happen to find anything on Film Editors who do 3D and the type of monitor they may need to cover both the 3D side of things and Video Editing?
Can you tell me your thoughts about the Philips 27M1C5500VL? For my budget, it's the best thing available in my country right now. But I want to make sure it's a good monitor for photo/video editing.
Damn what a video! I’m just not that technical.. I want to buy a 4k monitor, connected with my Macbook pro and I just don’t know which one to choose.. can you maybe please help me? I’m looking for a 4k 27” or 32” and will specifically use it for photo and video editing. I was looking for a Dell U2720Q or a BenQ… can you maybe give me the golden advice? Hope to hear from you 🙏🏼
Wow Tymek, Thank You!! What awesome information and explained extremely well! In fact, the best I have ever come across. I have a Late 2021 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max. I've been looking for a nice monitor to use for FCPX video editing. I would love an ultrawide but, scaling problems with text along with the lack of maintaining proper 3840x2160 resolution. With that being said, I steering away from those. I'm now thinking about a pair of 27" or a 32". Been looking for a couple weeks in which I haven't pinpointed anything....it's tough. Now that I have seen your video, I've learned quite a bit more about what to look out for. Thanks again, job well done!! 👍😊
Thank you very much :D i was inspired to make it after i myself had spent close to 40 hours into researching my own monitor. i decided i would put that info to good use and hopefully help others trying to do the same thing.
Which one did you buy , it’s so hard finding a 27 monitor for my M1 Max for video editing , should I get a 4k or a 1440 , so many different views on this debate
the ports confuse me a bit... I get the stuff being relevant for gaming, where you actually watch images at 144hz+. But for video editing or pictures, it only boils down to wether your port (and your camera) supports 10bit or not right? because a video is usually between 24 and 30fps, meaning a 120fps shot gets displayed at that rate anyway in a 24p timeline making it possible to do slowmos. So for sole video or photo editing the hz is irrelevant, but the bit-support is the deciding factor if I am correct? Thanks fr that video, was aperfect overview
Hey Tymek thank you so much for this video and giving all info in simple words. I have one question. I think you can clear this confusion . Does Monitor panel matters a LOT in colour grading ? Like IPS , VA Etc . I think after that we all can have very clear idea about purchasing the Monitor for first time.
How many nits i need as an editor and which the best specifics should i see in the monitor for editing.. İ need monitor for this work and at the same time for high refresh gaming if you can help 🙆🏻♂️
The monitor I’m thinking to buy has these specs and I’m planning to use it to both game and edit. Specs: Refresh rate: 165hz Response time: 1ms (mprt) 4ma (gtg) 350 cd/m2 3500:1 (typical) 80 milliom:1 (dcr) Color Gamut: NTSC 96%(CIE1976)/sRGB 126%(CIE1931)/DCI-P3 87%(CIE1976) Display Colors 16.7M Is this good enough? Currently on a budget and this is around $140 monitor
I been editing from 720p insignia tv. Maybe why im going blind 😅 But since both my monitors just burnt out, this video was helpful! I needa buy new one asap! Sigh 😢
Thank you SO much for this video. I’m having trouble choosing because I wanted to go with the AOC U32P2C - 32 Inch 4K Monitor, but now I’m not sure because it says it has a signal input display port 1.2 . Any advice?
So as i mention in the video, DP 1.2 is okay, and in theory should be able to support 10 bit 60hz 4k based off its max data rate, but when i was digging around i got conflicting answers. some Sites said that 1.2 could not support 10 bit. i think you are better off trying to find a monitor with atleast 1.4. 1.2 is a very old standard at this point
i think most media is slowing moving to being all 4k, so if you have the budget to do so its not a bad idea. they are beautiful screens. but 2k monitor would probably be fine as well if you are just doing vacation videos from a go pro.
poszedłem z ViewSonic VP2768a-4K 27 Inch Premium IPS 4K Monitor (geni.us/14Ncic).
Thanks for all the info! I have a question. If i shoot a video in 4k, and i edit it in a laptop (that can only support fhd) which is connected to a qhd or uhd monitor, how will it turn out?
your computer can still edit the footage, and it wont regrade the quality - however it just might be really slow editing the footage as 4k video is more difficult for a computer to work with then lower resolutions. ( same goes for higher frame rates)
Hello my monitor goes to sleep every time I edit a video using vegas movie studio (even though I have it set up to never go to sleep) the footage is 4K but the monitor is not 4K, so my question is do I need a 4K monitor? It is very annoying it only goes to sleep when using that software. My monitor is an HP w1707. My computer specs: HP h8-1240t Windows 10 Home Intel Core i7-3770k cpu 16 gb RAM NVidia GeForce GT 545 Thank you.
hi there and im very sorry about the late reply. the computer going to sleep should have nothing to do with the monitor. unfortunately every program is different and you might need to reach out to support directly to help you.
It seems to be a generally decent monitor, a few unhappy customers based on reviews - couldn’t find much about Color accuracy from my quick search but you might be able to find deeper reviews and tests
hi there and im very sorry about the late reply - i think those monitors should be pretty good. i dont think they were the best in terms of color accuracy and features but i think over all form what i saw on reviews people liked them.
I hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple of other questions: I really like this close-up video of birds landing on a piece of wood ( th-cam.com/video/XDrB5c4-c9Y/w-d-xo.html ) What kind of camera and lens would I need to film this scenario ? Do I need a Sony A7Siii because I want to let it run for long periods of time without overheating ? I think Panasonics can run a long time without overheating but they have poor auto-focus. Do I need high quality autofocus for this scenario? What kind of lens do you think this video is using ? Perhaps the Sony FE 20mm F1.8 or is that too wide for this shot ? Maybe a 50-55mm ? What kind of lens would you use for this shot? Thank you very much.
you definitely dont specifically need a sony for this type of shot; however im not sure of every camera and which ones over heat and dont. it looks like its probably a wider angle lens, like in the 20-35 mm range i would say. this is just a 15 min clip but i do know there are still a lot of cameras that have that 30 min record limit, which the A7S III doesn't. there is definitely no autofocus for that shot, he manually focused the nuts and then just let the camera run. and it looks like they had a tighter aperture, probably around f4 or 5.6 as you can see the depth of field is very wide and the backround isn't overly creamy and out of focus. a 50 mm lens would still work for this, the camera would just need to be farther away, and you would get less of the background. as far as which lens i would use i would really have to test out some focal lengths to see which look i liked the best, it might be worth renting a zoom lens like a 16-35 or a 24-105 lens to play around with focal lengths to see which look you like the best, and what distance from the subject you like to work with, and then either buy a zoom lens to keep that variation possible, shoot some wide, shoot some tight, or you might find out that you only like 1 specific focal length like and get a prime lens as they are usually better quality. I also just want to say that i am more than happy to help with your questions, but if you could just keep the same comment chain going on the H6 video that would be appreciated, as if you are just clicking on the video to ask a question about your camera and lens searches, but not watching the video, it hurts the videos analytics, and i see it dropped to only 48 second view duration around the time you commented.
@@TymekStolarz Thank you very much for helping me again. I am sorry for negatively effecting your analytics. I didn't know Google tracked that data. I will keep the chain on the H6 video from now on. Thank you.
no worries at all! like i said im more than happy to help when ever you have a question. and not a problem, you'll see once you start uploading your nature content, the videos where people watch more of it, will be more likely to do better. when people watch for longer its an indication that they enjoy it so youtube will share it more with others. videos with poor average view duration usually dont do so well. but its all averaged so one view here and there wont destroy the videos performance. TH-cam also generates retention graphs that show where the average viewer is clicking off your video so you can analyze those moments and see if you can make a change to how you make your videos in the future if its always happening in a similar section of your video.
A contrast ratio of 9000:3 is tha same as 3000:1 and the same as 3000. Math beginner knowledge. Also you did not mention real world contrast. Dark room contrast is totally irrelevant, except you are in a dark room!
This is too much of detail. Like anyone can expand and lecture for hours also on 1 subject if need be. It didnt have to be this long. The title says picking a monitor for video editing. But the video was more like general encyclopedia on monitor technologies, which even a person whos not INTO monitors like me can do.....and mostly which is what everyone is doing on YT....research the web for 1 hr and get content for a freaking 1 hr video.....just transmit information from one form to the other, add salt if neccesary. Very talented job TH-cam is turning out to be....err uhmm.
Bruh it would’ve taken you hours to find this info but he did all the research and managed to give it to you in 18 minutes. People always have to find something to complain about smh 🤦🏻♂️
@@2swole I was only mentioning that it was loaded with and unnecessary amount of info when compared to the impression the title gives. If a title goes HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FRIDGE and then he starts lecturing about compressors and who invented the fridge and how all it evolved along with how to clean it....then someone's going to point it out ? Thats why the comment section exists right ? Nothing wrong in giving honest feedback. They should do this just to run high duration videos for their analytics and business point of view.
im sorry to hear that the video wasnt helpful for you, but that is the beauty of youtube, if this video wasnt answering your question, you can move on to the next.
@@simplysurfing i think the title is very accurate as to the video content. i wanted to myself learn "how to pick a monitor for video editing" and every single topic discussed in the video was a question i was trying to have answered, and i also couldnt find this information in 1 place. it took me forever to compile all the info from many different sources. as you can see from other comments, basically everyone but you was looking for this information. i suppose you may have just been trying to find a more basic monitor ? while others actually wanted to know about the details about how monitors differ from one another.

For my budget, it's the best thing available in my country right now. But I want to make sure it's a good monitor for photo/video editing.
Thank you!
this video is so helpful! thanks!
Thank you very much! It helps me a lot to find my best monitor that suits me well. (which I can afford)
Not a problem :) it wa s along process for me thats for sure - and took a lot of time trying to figre everything out by myself

No problem :) thank you for the comment
@@TymekStolarz That's awesome! Thank you for being thoughtful in sharing! Happy Holidays to you and yours!! 👍😊
Which one did you buy , it’s so hard finding a 27 monitor for my M1 Max for video editing , should I get a 4k or a 1440 , so many different views on this debate
@@Tonellacam Unfortunately, nothing yet... I was hoping Apple would have introduced a newer version of what they have. 🤔
Thank you bro
the ports confuse me a bit... Thanks fr that video, was aperfect overview
what is the ideal hertz and type of monitor on editing?
Hey Tymek thank you so much for this video and giving all info in simple words. I have one question. I think you can clear this confusion .
Does Monitor panel matters a LOT in colour grading ? Like IPS , VA Etc . I think after that we all can have very clear idea about purchasing the Monitor for first time.
Hi Raj, Panel Type is the first point i discuss at 0:35. IPS generally are the best in regards to color.
@@TymekStolarz Thank you so much Tymek for quick reply.
no problem, take care.
brother.. i have a quick q.. is a 32" 2k monitor good for video/photo editing..? or do i have to go for 4k (far too expensive) at 32"..
How many nits i need as an editor and which the best specifics should i see in the monitor for editing.. İ need monitor for this work and at the same time for high refresh gaming if you can help 🙆🏻♂️
Bro, I just wanted a monitor 😅
hello, Is 60 hz refresh rate good for editing?
The monitor I’m thinking to buy has these specs and I’m planning to use it to both game and edit.
Specs:
Refresh rate: 165hz
Response time: 1ms (mprt) 4ma (gtg)
350 cd/m2
3500:1 (typical) 80 milliom:1 (dcr)
Color Gamut:
NTSC 96%(CIE1976)/sRGB 126%(CIE1931)/DCI-P3 87%(CIE1976)
Display Colors 16.7M
Is this good enough? Currently on a budget and this is around $140 monitor
I forgot to mention that it has VA Panel
I been editing from 720p insignia tv. Maybe why im going blind 😅
But since both my monitors just burnt out, this video was helpful!
I needa buy new one asap! Sigh 😢
hahah, yes it might be time for an upgrade especially if one is burnt!
Bro is HIM
Hello, so as a video editor/ frontend developer Do you recommend a monitor with 27inch, IPS, and FHD or a monitor with 27inch , VA and QHD?
Try gigabyte M27Q
I'm just editing a few vacation videos from my go pro
Mostly at 4k 60fps
Do I need a 4k monitor?
Or should I stick with my 2k monitor?
i think most media is slowing moving to being all 4k, so if you have the budget to do so its not a bad idea. they are beautiful screens. but 2k monitor would probably be fine as well if you are just doing vacation videos from a go pro.
would you please recommed something to me for video editing in max budget 700 USD?
The ViewSonic VP2768a-4K 27 (geni.us/14Ncic) is the one i chose and i really like it. it also costs 700 Canadian.
poszedłem z ViewSonic VP2768a-4K 27 Inch Premium IPS 4K Monitor (geni.us/14Ncic).
So, which monitor did you pick?
Hello my monitor goes to sleep every time I edit a video using vegas movie studio (even though I have it set up to never go to sleep) the footage is 4K but the monitor is not 4K, so my question is do I need a 4K monitor? It is very annoying it only goes to sleep when using that software.
My monitor is an HP w1707.
My computer specs:
HP h8-1240t
Windows 10 Home
Intel Core i7-3770k cpu
16 gb RAM
NVidia GeForce GT 545
Thank you.
hi there and im very sorry about the late reply. the computer going to sleep should have nothing to do with the monitor. unfortunately every program is different and you might need to reach out to support directly to help you.
What about Acer cb282k uhd
It seems to be a generally decent monitor, a few unhappy customers based on reviews - couldn’t find much about Color accuracy from my quick search but you might be able to find deeper reviews and tests

hi there and im very sorry about the late reply - i think those monitors should be pretty good. i dont think they were the best in terms of color accuracy and features but i think over all form what i saw on reviews people liked them.
Your good! Thanks for the reply
This is so complex... Makes me wonder what kind of genius it took to invent digital displays, like TVs and computers, in the first place...
I do have that thought every once in a while myself. the phones in our pockets, our vehicles, tvs, gaming systems. so much tech
@@TymekStolarz Thanks for the info. Hopefully the A7Siii will be available soon si I can get the show on the road.
All I wanted was to find a good external monitor to enjoy binge watching in Netflix 😢😢😢😢
@@2swole haha thank you
@@simplysurfing i think the title is very accurate as to the video content. i wanted to myself learn "how to pick a monitor for video editing" and every single topic discussed in the video was a question i was trying to have answered, and i also couldnt find this information in 1 place. it took me forever to compile all the info from many different sources. as you can see from other comments, basically everyone but you was looking for this information. i suppose you may have just been trying to find a more basic monitor ? while others actually wanted to know about the details about how monitors differ from one another.
Too lazy to reshoot. Wow good luck.
This helped me a ton. Thank you.
