My 27" (2017) iMac (I have to edit videos on an external hard drive), but I just purchased a Mac Studio M2 and am looking for a monitor that I can afford that isn't so cheap it won't honor the beast of a computer I just bought! So, here I am trying to find a monitor that will serve it for a year or two before upgrading to the Apple Studio monitor. I'm trying to figure out if this BenQ 2700U was replaced by the 2705U or 2706U. Does anyone know? Thanks for the review.
Specs are fine, but don't always represent real world quality. I bought an Asus ProArt PA329CV 32" 4K monitor with ∆E < 2, 100% sRGB, and 100% Rec 709. Just eyeballing it, colours seemed fine, but it suffered bad backlight bleed on one side, which basically made it a non-starter. I then bought a Huawei MateView 28.2" 4K+ 3840x2560 monitor with ∆E < 2, 100% sRGB, and 98% DCI-P3. Despite the claim of ∆E < 2, out-of-the-box the colours were clearly off. So I bought a calibrator and recalibrated it, and the colours look great now, with none of the horrible backlight bleeding the Asus ProArt had. The calibration software says it indeed is 100% sRGB, but DCI-P3 is 96%.
@@gerrypi51 Sorry, I can't answer your questions about that since 1) I haven't used that monitor, and 2) I am not a video editor. The main point of my post was just to say paper specs often don't reflect real world performance.
I have 4 asus proart pa392cv, 0 backlight bleeding, maybe you got a bad panel, 4 month now, 12-14h on, every day, calibrated srgb is low on light delta is 2. Just my2cent.
One of the best videos on this subject, but there should be a few clarifications: 1. Some important properties of pro monitors usually don't show up on spec sheets, such as monitor uniformity and edge bleeding which is common on lower-end monitors. 2. You mentiond a monitor covering 100% Srgb, 98%Argb, but not REC709. I guess they just didn't put it on the spec sheet since rec709 is very similiar gamit to Srgb, so that monitor definatly covers it. 3. Something not a lot of reviewers mention is that if most of your work is being published online and you don't do your own printing, you are probably good enough with Srgb coverage, no need to worry much about Argb. Also you can get pretty decnt Srgb coverage and even 100% sometimes on pretty simple monitors with calibration, so at a pinch, getting a 200$ calibration device could improve your existing monitor's performance alot. Still, very informative and useful, keep it up! 👍🏽
Very interesting tips, thank you very much! I have a question though. When you say "and you don't do your own printing, you are probably good enough with Srgb coverage, no need to worry much about Argb.", do you mean that if I send pictures I edited in SRGB to a print lab, they will convert it to ARGB for me and make sure it is converted properly? Or do you just mean that I don't need to worry about it because I'll never print, and so will never need ARGB?
I bought the Ben PD2700U and has compared to my iPad Pro m1 on sRGB setting and the colour accuracy is 99% same. This monitor is best bang for bucks and I have been using it for a year now. go for it if it's available.
You should included Eizo monitors in the lists. Those displays are way more expensive but for a reason as well. Uniformity on those displays are far better than in BenQ displays. Also they are industry standards in print as well.
Wow, man!! This has got to be the best informative and easiest to understand video about monitor colors and how to understand them! THANK YOU so much for making this video!!!

Nice video, I have BenQ PD2700U it's a great monitor and my only complaining is the downsize of the UI and menus & icons are very small size in some creator apps like 3ds Max/ Maya..etc, I don't have that issue with Adobe apps, Thanks for the vid.
That's actually not a problem with the monitor. It is 4K so you will have smaller icons and UI, but also more screen real estate! If you go into your display settings on your laptop or computer, you can change the screen resolution or the size of UI!
Dude me too for the beginning part. They all differ of course. I have a pc but even If I had a Mac and edited on it, it would look good on my iPhone ( of course ) but a customer looking at it on their androids. Well a lot different.
This is very helpful. I have the BenQ 2725 on the way, an Apple Studio 27" in a box next to me (kind of wish you threw this in the comparison), and I'm watching this video on the ViewSonic VP2786 4k. The sRGB is really nice, especially recording music in Logic Pro. I do wish you included it's specs just as a baseline by wish so many people know. Notwithstanding, great video! I learned a lot. Thank you!
I am currently looking for a monitor to start my video editing campaign and stumbled upon your video. Thank you for the great clear explanations of the different elements.
@@StefanoLombardoYT ☺️Why do you say in that video that it is useless to calibrate cheap TVs or monitors because they cannot give all the color of the content that is being sent or viewed? If I calibrate my $200 TV, will it not look the same as an $800 or more? I don't understand? my wii u gamepad with tn panel, lcd is calibrated and it is 2012 and the colors look better than on my 2017 tv, it goes, 8 bit, led, the lighting unless I put my gamma, backlight, contrast to the maximum they do not resemble the wii u gamepad. what I mean is that by calibrating the screens you can see the colors and the content as it was made. Just FYI blue light doesn't cause eye strain. It's actually because your eyes are focusing at a single close distance for a long time. It requires your eye muscles to work harder to hold focus because of how close it is. That's why eyes become strained from phones and computers of the like.
I was about to order a BenQ monitor because of specs, BUT I read that customers were complaining about terrible customer support. They also don't repair there monitors (per BenQ). I will probably end up ordering an EIZO.
Great video 👌Epic Channel 😃 Congratulations. I really need your opinion: I'm interested in buying the BenQ PD2705U monitor, what do you think about this model, would it be a good buy? My fear and doubt is that it has 250 nits. Based on your experience, do you think 250 nits is enough? I have a Dell UP2716D that was factory calibrated, 100% sRGB and 100% Adobe RGB that I use for photo editing. I also have an i1 Display Pro and when calibrated with that tool the colors are noticeably different than the original factory calibration. Which one should I trust? The colors are also different when viewing on my S21 Ultra, and waaay different when viewing on an iPhone (very yellowish)

I use the BenQ PD2700U same as you but please help me I'm new on Photography and I don't know how this affect my photo screen to print accurate colors, need help pls
I was looking at a couple of ASUS ProArt displays because of various reviews, but they generally have poor user reviews on Amazon, especially from Mac users (the need for firmware upgrades that could only be done with the use of a PC, really bad ASUS tech support)... so I'm looking elsewhere.Seems like review sites are just looking at specs and not actually using the displays they recommend... or maybe their IT person sets up the display for the review. I'm my own IT person, and don't need the headaches it looks like ASUS put the Amazon reviewers thru.
what helped you decide to go for a 27'' monitor instead of a 32'' ? I am editing on my MacBook for years and finally wanna upgrade and use a external monitor. I literally cant decide. thanks and merry Christmas.
YMMV, but on a Mac, I didn't like 32" 4K (138 ppi) for text. Scaled text was all blurry, and gave me a headache. I like 27" 4K or 28" 4K+ (both 164 ppi). Scaled text looks very good and no headaches. 27" 5K (218 ppi) is even better for scaled text, but the options are pretty limited and it's very expensive. Also, strangely enough, the 2304xXXXX scaled resolution I prefer for 27/28" in macOS is available on 4K/4K+ monitors, but not 5K monitors.
I have been trying to find out the Delta-E value for LG 32UN880-B 32 (81.28cm) UltraFine™ Display Ergo 4K HDR10 Monitor. But no luck. Can you help? ANybody?
Question. I am editing in photoshop pics of my artwork, printing to epson p9000. Cannot get the colors on my screen to translate to my printer even though I am using an icc profile. I have worked from my apple laptop and pc desktop, each have different results and neither are close. Would one of the less expensive monitors help?
Hey Is a 10 bit monitor a need in color grading ? Also am considering pd2700Q ( which is the only 10 bit monitor and the cheapest of the 3 ) , PD 2705Q ( which is the updated version of pd2700q & apparently 8bit ) And Asus Proart Pa278Qv ... Which should I buy ?
Hi, the difference you may notice with 8 bit vs. 10 bit color is the smoothness in color gradations, as there are billions of colors displayed in 10 bit. If you are a designer or photo editor you will probably appreciate having a 10 bit monitor.
nice video! i ordered the 2700u today. Just out of curiosity, do you know how many % of the dci-p3 it covers? second question, did you ever calibrated your benq 2700u yourself with a colorimeter or do you used it out of the box till now? thanks in advance
Great explanation! You said that you switch the profiles when doing for example photo editing (sRGB) or video editing (Rec 709). Do you also switch the color profile in the operating system to match the monitor color space?
I recently bought the Benq PD2700U monitor to connect to my MacBook for photo editing, but I quickly noticed that skin tones would be much more red and magenta on the Benq monitor than on my MacBook. Does anyone else experience the same problem and if so, how do I solve this? I tried calibrating the Benq a few times but nothing has worked so far.
Hi, you may have already gotten the answer to this, but my suggestion is make sure you have it set to the correct color space. I believe this monitor has a specific MacBook setting. Hope that helps, as I'm considering buying this one for a Mac, too.
ALL OF THEM (EXCEPT ASUS PA27UCX-K) ARE NOT 10 BIT !!! THEY ARE 8 BIT+ FRC, ITS A FAKE 10 BIT, EMULATION !!! YOU AS A PHOTOGRAPHER SHOULD KNOW IT !!! THERE IS ONE CHEAP ASUS PA329C, IT SHOULD BE TRUE 10 BIT.

I have a Dell UP2716D that was factory calibrated, 100% sRGB and 100% Adobe RGB that I use for photo editing. I also have an i1 Display Pro and when calibrated with that tool the colors are noticeably different than the original factory calibration. Which one should I trust? The colors are also different when viewing on my S21 Ultra, and waaay different when viewing on an iPhone (very yellowish)
trust the calibrator
Thanks brother. I did not this much different types. I know sRGB only ! Subscribed. i have a dual monitors. but due to different desk i have, think to se one monitor. Is that enough. I want to learn new software or tutorials.
What UltraWide monitor do you recommend? Does anyone have a recommendation.
I like to get a bigger monitor. at least in the 30s like 34inchs etc. and what about the QLEDS? where the Blacks are the Blackest?
Broooo thank you sooooo much for all this informative information on all these damn codes that you need to be a rocket ship engineer to figure out all what they mean Lol 🙏 thank you. Now I know what to look for. 😊
for video, is it important that the monitor offers rec 709 ? or rgb is enough ?
I use the BenQ PD2700U same as you but please help me I'm new on Photography and I don't know how this affect my photo screen to print accurate colors, need help pls
so when I'm editing a photo I should keep the screen on srgb and if it's a video it should be on rec 709?
Correct!
some monitors only list the P3 value or the sRGB value. If it says 95% P3 can i assume that it is also 100% sRGB?
I was looking at a couple of ASUS ProArt displays because of various reviews, but they generally have poor user reviews on Amazon, especially from Mac users (the need for firmware upgrades that could only be done with the use of a PC, really bad ASUS tech support)... so I'm looking elsewhere.Seems like review sites are just looking at specs and not actually using the displays they recommend... or maybe their IT person sets up the display for the review. I'm my own IT person, and don't need the headaches it looks like ASUS put the Amazon reviewers thru.
Is there a similar model with type c?
I just can't get past ips glow.
For me that's an automatic color inaccuracy, and it moves around as you move your head.
what helped you decide to go for a 27'' monitor instead of a 32'' ?
ANybody?
Hi, thanks for the informative video.
Please suggest some 55/65 inch monitors with similar specs. I'm not finding any big sized monitor unfortunately
Sounds like you want a really good tv atp lol
What about ppi, the benq sw the 2k one has only 109 ppi, how important this it ? Thanks
Why no DELL ultrasharp? Dci-p3 over 95%. Price under $500
"10-bit" displays actually have 8-bit panels. They use frame rate control in order to "fake" 10 bit depth.
Question. I am editing in photoshop pics of my artwork, printing to epson p9000. Cannot get the colors on my screen to translate to my printer even though I am using an icc profile. I have worked from my apple laptop and pc desktop, each have different results and neither are close. Would one of the less expensive monitors help?
Wich Delta Level is normal for you or more of a standart for you? :)
Interesting that you completely ignored the Eizo monitors in your list.
Agreed...
6:10 It's really dumb to get a monitor based on a low blue light feature because you can trivially do that in software.
Is full hd monitor bd for color grading?
Just out of curiosity, do you know how many % of the dci-p3 it covers?
second question, did you ever calibrated your benq 2700u yourself with a colorimeter or do you used it out of the box till now? thanks in advance
how is working and what is your review after 1 month of usage
Great explanation! You said that you switch the profiles when doing for example photo editing (sRGB) or video editing (Rec 709). Do you also switch the color profile in the operating system to match the monitor color space?
Also wondering this
What’s the 1440 equivalent?
I was going to buy an Asus ProArt display but have decided against it for now
Alternative ? A little great ASUS OLED ROG Swift PG42UQ (price ca. 1400.-):
4K, Delta
@@gerrypi51 I am not paying $1400 for a monitor right now lmao $300 for the ProArt is fine for me
Color Gamut: 02:50
Comparison: 10:50
I wish I knew about this video a year or two ago.
sw321c
The Asus ProArt Display PA279CV also looks like a nice option. 100% srgb & rec 709 + Delta E-2 for just 550 euro's
I have been using this monitor for work (design/editing) for about 9 months now and I would happily recommend it to anyone.
What color profile do you use to do video editing? @@ec6455
Hope that helps, as I'm considering buying this one for a Mac, too.
how come none of these are oled?
NTSC as color gamut? You know NTSC stands for Never The Same Color, don't you? :P
I don't have money.
"I would spend hours color grading a photo"...
