is it not kinda pointless to say a va panel has bad viewing angels when you sit in the middle anyway and it's curved towards you also i have a va panel and there is no black smearing on mine when gaming not at 144hz atleast if i set it to 60hz tho then you can notice it but there is no reason to use 60hz so not a problem
@@abysswalker3357 i guarantee you have it, you are just used to it. As for anglea and curve, not really. My ips has an equal curve and doesnt have that problem
@@AncientGameplays of course i have ghosting and black smearing but not to a degree that you can see it and no im not used to it i would see that instantly 8 months ago i got an ultrawide va panel but it had alot of ghosting and black smearing so i returned it but not my current one so i would really have to disagree with you that va panels are as bad as you say cause it's all up to what monitor you get i mean just look at the samsung g series those panels are excellent !
Naah, after having an IPS monitor I've switched to VA since I use my PC 99% of the time at night and having greyish blacks was just so annoying. Black smearing is not a big deal for me, better than having poor contrast.
Having poor contrast is much better then having a black smear. What's the use of that huge contrast when as soon as you start moving in game you get that smear into different colors? Like purple on CFG70? It just makes game look like washed out garbage.
I have an IPS AW2521HF - Alienware and I can confirm this. My right corner is basically yellowish in black scenarios (backlight bleed) and it used to annoy me to the point I almost returned it. I had to adapt my eyes and just accept it as an IPS flaw and I started to see the good sides of IPS (which are much more when compared to this tiny issue).
I have a couple of good old BenQ EW277HDR on VA panels. Great colors, perfect viewing angles, zero visible black smearing. Yesterday I tried to upgrade to a modern 1440@165 IPS monitor, but I just couldn't stand it: both contrast and viewing angles on IPS were just horrible in comparison. Truth is, there are near-perfect VA panels out there, and there are a lot of terrible (while not cheap) IPS panels as well. Seriously, one wouldn't believe a 10-year-old ~160$ EW277HDR's panel is actually a VA when put next to a way more expensive modern IPS monitor. So... do not just blindly make your choice based on the panel technology. VA isn't something inherently flawed, and IPS isn't something good by default. Anyone saying that VA is bad simply wasn't lucky enough to find a good VA monitor on the market.
@@delacroixii Well I fail to see any signs of it on my VA in action games or desktop applocations. Perhaps some minor near-invisible smearing can be detected in certain specialized tests... But not in real-life scenarios. That said, I can clearly see the smearing on some other VA screens, so it really depends on an actual model.
The smear usually comes in lower frequencies, usually as you go below 160Hz on top tier panels. The lower you go, the more smearing you have. So if you're playing a single player game at lets say, 80fps, you're gonna suffer
@@AncientGameplays Maybe it's just me not having a comparison or something but I really don't notice any issues, I also do play games at very high frame rates as well, typically getting around 100+
@@versedbridge4007 Yeah but this guy is looking at fancy screens everyday. there nitpicky as f.... so dont worry enjoi your monitor. People did not reccomend TN and i got for past two years a Asus TUF VG258qm 280hz TN panel. And now i went ultra wide and got the evnia 34m2c3500l 3440x1440 180hz Fast VA 0.5ms Works like a charm in my opinion haha
I don't think I agree. I have the LG 32GK650F that was a long-time recommendation from Hardware Unboxed (it was their best buy monitor for a couple years). Cost me under 500€ in November 2019 (Croatian prices, the highest in EU), now it's under 300€ and I bet you can't find a better 32" 1440p 144Hz monitor for that price, although it's now considered old. Oh, I also calibrated it using a Colormunki iDisplay. It's pretty accurate. I can agree that most VA panels aren't that good, especially on the cheap(er) monitors. Black smearing is not really noticable.
Hey, i mean, i talked about the price/perf ratio in the end as well. That panel is 16:9 so the 2 first parts do not apply so much, but the black smearing does, and if you guys can't see it, that is another question, but it is definitely there :D
watched all the HWU videos on monitors and I do agree that we cant apply it to all VA monitors due to technological advancements (like Samsung odyssey)but yes there is a black smearing problem in VA panels.
I'm really enjoying my Cooler Master GA271 lol it has minor issues but so have IPS, really wish OLED burn-in wasn't an issue anymore, would buy one in a heartbeat
I have a LG VA monitor and I enjoy it so much more than my Dell IPS monitor before. Cant stand the IPS glow. I think the VA panel is the perfect middleground.
Thankyou for this video! I have alwats had IPS monitors, but got a really good price recently on a 31.5inch Va panel! The "Smearing" that you speak of, is ridiculous!! It is something I will never be able to get used to, and the reason i will never buy a VA panel again.
lol I got a VA panel anyway, not regretting it at all considering IPS cost so much more. Also contrast and colors on my monitor are great, and that for most usecases it's a great bargain, unless you play solely competitive fps and don't know how to set up a monitor correctly. VA panels can be great.
@@AncientGameplays tbh I feel these issues only when I'm running lower that 80/90 fps, otherwise the high refresh rate and some good calibration can really do wonders, depending on the panel of course. I don't even own a fancy samsung g7 va panel, but I can't really complain too much, every panel has its compromises at the end
I was using an IPS before and after switched to a VA with higher refresh rate, aside from the more vivid colors I cant tell the difference between IPS and VA
Had a VA-panel once, it was a 32" non-curved one. It was really easy to notice the viewing angle issue whenever I was in the middle of the panel and looked into left and right corners. Other than that and the fact it was only 60 Hz, it was okay. Still do prefer IPS, though, but they are more expensive.
I use a curved VA monitor currently, and I have to say that I really enjoy it. The curved nature of it helps maintain color accuracy in corners from the center perspective. It does have a couple of settings that have alleviated other issues. Overclocking the monitor reduced smearing, and I adjust the black level if I want more of an IPS experience. More blacks create more noticeable smear, but smearing gives the visuals an oil painting aesthetic, which I can appreciate for the better blacks. I totally understand why somone might hate it though
@@hombrepepega3472 yes but it's an annoying headache here in my country since I can only purchase it online cuz I live in a small town in a region far from the best PC stuff sellers. Online purchases can take more than 15 days to arrive and in case I wanna return I need to pay for the shipment, etc. But I heard there are ways to mitigate these issues with VA panels (most workarounds require doing things that ruin the contrast, beating the purpose of using a VA panel lol oh well) so I think I'll stick to it unless it's unbearable
I agree. I bought 2 VAs and both had an absolutely unbearable amount of smearing. Both have been immediately returned. It's a shame, because I really liked the deep blacks and even the curve...
Once IPS, always IPS. I am a color enthusiast, and i freakin` love the colors on IPS panels. Also , i`m one of the guys who get red eyes from TN/VA panels and fatigue after long coding hours. The only drawback is the low lightining levels. 250cd/m is >_> .. wish it were at least 400.
Mmm not sure to agree. I have had 3 different high refresh VA monitors and I have been more than happy. Now I have an IPS monitor and yes, it does have better colors but still…I won’t say not to buy a VA. I mean, they are a lot cheaper and that’s a good thing.
i mean samsung odyssey g7 is a great display for gaming its also priced out of reach and among ips 21:9 monitors and 4k high refresh monitors. Then we look to 360hz FHD monitors that are also at the G7 pricepoint and 240hz QHD panels. XD as if they dont come paired with a concurrent GPU price point to drive them
Good observations. But in my case an IPS monitors can hurt my eyes in long usage. The IPS glare and reflections always bothers me a lot and cause headaches on my part. This never happens when I use a VA or even a TN panel that I can use for hours. I can only use an IPS if the brightness was turned way down which makes every thing darker so no fun for IPS for me.
@@ManOfAttitudeLP1998 That has to have a reasonable explanation, otherwise its placebo. Flickering monitors and CRT would cause eyestrain and headaches for a reason. THis has to have a reason also
Indeed, on that i agree. But as of now, anything that isn't contrast, IPS is the way to go...if you have the money ofc. My 34" nano-IPS 160Hz LG 34GN850 is just incredible...even comparing to my older IPS...
dont worry nobody is pushing 200+fps in AAA titles on maxed settings in QHD bc its damn near impossible with even the fastest gpus. So this gimmick will stay intact by the time the GPUS or the GEN of gpus are 300-500$ and can actually even push fps of that level in QHD on todays AAA titles nvm in 2-3 years....the monitors of today at 240hz qhd will be as dated as cp 2077 or any other AAA eye catching game of 2020/2021. Equally with the tech of the monitors of THEN and the price points....youre far better off waiting it out by then youll have access to FULL HDR ips monitiors that can manage 4-6ms and high refresh rate, or etc....needs will be met with the tech advacements and the trickledown price cuts to all 2021 options and so on.
@@AncientGameplays thats old tech nowadays. Super ips is the way to go. Switched from an lg nano to a gigabyte super speed ips its incredible the difference.
@@AncientGameplays I wanted to buy exactly this one, but after over an half Year of waiting and reports about bad QC i was searching for something other.
I recently bought an HDR IPS panel. I bought it mainly for video editing/color grading, with gaming as a secondary function. It's not the best monitor in the world but it's more than adequate for my needs. Colors are excellent, black levels are surprisingly decent and the image overall is very sharp, clear, and more importantly consistent. I think if you're mainly watching video then VA is the better option, if you're a content creator or gamer than IPS is better.
True, black smear can be prominent in certain games, but if you are considering downgrading high Hz VA panel to, say 75Hz IPS, roll back refresh rate on your VA panel first. Black smear wont be as that bad on lower refresh rates on VA panels. It's just VA pixel response times can't keep up with black transitions on high Hz. Still, I will take VA black smear vs IPS glow any day :)
I have a 60hz VA 8ms response time and the smearing sucks. It got a bit better after adjunsting the gamma. It goes from not really noticible to terrible on CS2 for example.
the VA and TN models 2020-2021 have improved so much that you can barely tell the difference, except for the true blacks you get. hardware unboxed clears that up. i think VA its fine, unless an older monitor model.
Should't buy a TN panel anymore tbh in 2021 unless you are very competitive even then i would probably still go for a VA over a TN and only a good one with good quality control shame it does not exist atm.
@@Arokhantos TN is the fastest LCD panel which is why pro gamers use TN monitors. IPS is okay for eSports and VA is terrible for eSports. Before making a bold statement like "people shouldn't buy TN monitors in 2021", keep the points I mentioned in mind. Not everyone is a casual gamer
If you work with text, especially with light one on the dark background -- be aware of black smearing, because it WILL be an issue (perhaps some monitors out there like G7 are good with it tho). Contrast ratio is way better compared to IPS, but man the downside... Got myself VA monitor and returned at the day one after seeing all of this with my own eyes.
thank you ! finally someone who talks about the awful unacceptable black purple smearing a few years ago I bought 800-1300$ so called gaming monitors from asus, acer predator and I dont remember who else in the worst case the black smear in super fast games was half the width of the monitor like 8" long, insane that they are allowed to sell this trash >< the 2 other VAs I returned were better but still had that horrible black purple smear that once you see will be all you see...IPS or TN are the way to go or an oled tv but they are giant...
I had a Lenovo Legion super ultrawide 32:10 VA monitor. I loved it in all other aspects, but the black smearing was ridiculous, it totally ruins the monitor. Never buying a VA-panel again. Waiting eagerly for OLED monitors to really hit the market
I'm using an old HP Omen 32" monitor. VA panel, 1400p, flat screen. No problems at all with color change at the sides of the screen. Unfortunately it's only a 75Hz monitor and motion blur ("black smearing") is really noticeable for bright objects moving in a dark scene or vice-versa. So be it. It's lasted 8 years with no dead pixels and Freesync Compatible mode works great. Pretty damn good for a cheap monitor! Unfortunately IPS screens all have really bad glow, I'd love one otherwise.
@@AncientGameplays Yes, absolutely. I like flight sims so I don't have an ultra-widescreen monitor. Actually, for flight sims I wish they still made 4:3 ones.
Am i the only one who specifically searched for a VA panel monitor? I personally think it is a good mix between ips and tn. I bought it for the good contrast and i don't notice smearing on my Samsung lc24fg73
I personally use a Pixio Px248 Prime, it's an IPS 1080p 144hz Freesync panel. Works amazing for how little I paid for it. It was a massive upgrade over my old Asus 1080p 60hz monitor I used for 8 years. I tried a VA monitor for about 5 minutes before I sent it back lol.
I have a AOC CQ32G1 that I bought Dec 2019 on a big sale and have never regretted it. If you need it for gaming, office work and very basic graphic design VA is pretty ok.
Ive learned this lesson the hard way,the ghosting and smearing on a oddysey g5 is just insane,it felt like playing with motion blur ,and as soon as the fps dropped bellow 144fps the smearing and ghosting became way worse.Switched to a more expensive ips Gigabyte M27Q and the difference is night and day, like going from sub hd resolution to full hd,the fluidity ,the clarity.
@@AncientGameplays because they haven't seen better, it's something you can't unsee once you know it's there you cannot ever use VA, I actually completely stopped gaming until I had a replacement, I'm running a 3d-mode hack black frame insertion and I can read the text on testufo->moving photo->street map at 1920pixel/s 99.99% of people in the world can't and they think it's normal...it's not, manufacturers could do it and with 10y old 3d technology, they just suck at their job
I bought the g5 first and had the same issues as you. Dull and washed out Color’s, black smearing giving that motion blur feel, etc. I then bought a benq ex2510 and found that it removed all these problems. But it really hurt my eyes and I couldn’t sit without my eyes watering for more than 1hour. This was even after the brightness was at 55. So I then bought the new odyssey g70a 4K 144hz innolux ips panel hdmi 2.1 monitor and this was the beast. Excellent contrast levels for an ips monitor, no black smearing of va panels and it also did not have the glare of ips panels. But I returned it because I felt it was stupid of me to spend 1000$ + on a monitor that would exclusively be used for my ps5. So I returned it. Now I am thinking of giving the odyssey g7 27 inch a try like the guy above is talking about. I love the contrast of va panels without that ugly black smearing. If anyone has any experience using the g5 and the g7 and their opinions regarding the same, let me know.
so you bought a cheap va panel and compared it ti a. more expensive ips panel? stupid, the g5 is trash, try using a g7/g9 and say the same thing those panels have 1ms GtG
IPS is almost perfect except for the terrible glow. Useless for dark scenes. VA has little problem with that, but yeah, the motion blur is pretty bad and causes a headache until you're used to it. You always notice it though.
@@AncientGameplays What's a good IPS one though? They all glow like crazy. I tried a bunch of IPS screens a few years back (including an outrageously expensive one!) and they were all terrible. Color reproduction is awesome and there's less blur than VA, but the glow is really awful.
From my personal experience I prefer VA panels all the way over ips especially when it comes to gaming. I felt that my ips monitor had bad eye comfort in that it was very tiring for my eyes and in videogames movement feels much more fluid on my VA monitor. Then there is also the greater contrast ratio and the picture looking way more detailed and HighRes compared to ips. But I must say its not worth buying a curved model. Because curved in general is stupid. I curently look for a flat va panel but there are only a handful monitors to choose from.
@@AncientGameplays The IPS monitor I had was not lacking in quality. What I expierienced with IPS is solely in relation to IPS technology itself. I also own a IPS telvision since 2020 and it has the same traits that I described for my monitor. And when it comes to curved there is really nothing to understand about it. For racing games and some third/first person games curved can be nice. But for strategy games, video/movie watching, surfing and office work/editing a flat panel clearly is the better option. For all the other games a flat monitor is just as good as the curved monitor if not even better. Flat Monitors just are the better allrounders.
@@indertat93 IPS monitors and VA have absolutely no difference in terms of eye strain unless one is flicker free and the other isn't man. As for flat vs curved, once you get used to curved your brain won't even know it is cruved anymore. I use mine daily for gaming/editing :D But we like what we like
Ghosting and freesync flickering problem :( I've been in trouble with this since the day I bought a VA curved Asus Tuf gaming monitor. They sold it me for Freesync and other things. I can't use any of them! Then why did I pay so much money? Most of VA panels have some issue specially ghosting.
I used a 34" wide curved monitor for 2 years. Switched from a 27" 4K IPS panel. Did realize that the colors seemed washed out but never minded since I wanted a wide display. Recently pondered about selling my 4k IPS display, but switched back to it once I realized how much better the colors were. Then I started doing some more research. If I'm ever to get a new curved wide display, then it will be IPS.
I had a va monitor, it was msi one, and yeah.. it sukd. But now i have the samsung odyssey g7 va monitor and its amazing, very fast. No smearing love it.
G7 sets a Benchmark to the true potential of VA high contrast/brightness/great response times and overshoot performance. MSI optix 30" VA 21:9 200hz monitor....is a direct opposite, a step backwards for a "new monitor". What was the worst thing about it was i tested it with an entry level system 3600, 5500xt 8gb. To see how it performed with a low FPS yielding system on 2560x1080 in AAA titles like FC5 or RDR2 or Fallen order. Terrible ghosting/overshoot and overall pixel uniformity. Plugs in laptop...same thing, plugs in 2080ti strix...same thing. 5700xt strix same thing.....So i went from g-sync gpus with a monitor that doesnt support g-sync, to pure amd gpus...both ways on the low and high end GPU variants. The monitor was just complete trash out of the box at any fps or hz. Samsung also makes a 34" VA thats in various 21:9 options around the 400-500$ price point. Works great at overdrive level 1 or off. When playing MAXED AAA titles that get 60-sub 144 fps. As far as variable refresh level pixel reproduction. For me ill call that acceptable bc that price point is right when IPS 165hz+ QHD panels start like the MSI mag 274 qd. or quantum dot LG monitors that lack contrast.
I had LG IPS monitor before and in comparison, with Samsung QLED tv I had to order Samsung CJ791 QLED (VA) monitor. Black is black, colors are fantastic, I don't have to use any gaming mode to see what is happening in the game and It didn't heavily modify picture so now I'm able to process pictures in Lightroom. I have bought also LG Nanocell TV for my parents and I have to say the colors aren't as good as on Samsung QLED TV. I'm very happy with my QLED VA monitor and TV.
Qled is quite the top you can get for VA, but a good IPS will always have better colors vs a good VA, but VAs improved a lot over the years (like ips did)
I came from a Flat LG Ultrawide 34UM58 1080P 75HZ IPS monitor that costed me $450 5 years ago and recently upgraded to a 34 Inch Curved Ultrawide 1440P 165HZ VA Monitor costs $500 and was surprised that it's color quality and viewing angles for a VA panel were similar to my IPS monitor. I don't notice any black smearing on it, maybe because it's a decent VA Panel. I was impressed and it was a night and day difference especially for the refresh rate upgrade(75 Hz to 165 Hz). Monitor technology did improve a lot over the years. Impressed me how a VA Panel from 2021 can compete to a 2016 IPS Panel in terms of colors and viewing angles.
I understand you. I have a top notch monitor from 2015 (IPS 75hz) and the colors in my VA were pretty close to it, and since yours is pretty lower end than my own (which is the 34UM88), i can easily believe what you're saying. STILL, having now an LG 34GN850 (IPS 160Hz) i can tell you that in terms of overall gaming, this monitor is years ahead of most, even in terms of input latency. Also, i am sure you have black smearing (like 100% sure), it may be not noticeable at higher refresh rates tho), but it is there 100% sure. Use the UFO Ghosting test
@@AncientGameplays I agree. A recent IPS vs VA, IPS will be way better. I have my current VA monitor on a High Overdrive setting though, which somewhat eliminated the smearing issue and is unnoticeable. Plus if I enable MPRT(Blacklight Strobing) improves it more a bit but I dont turn it on as it disables freesync and halves the monitor's brightness. But when overdrive is set to off, it's definitely there and will be quite noticeable. I could have gotten an IPS Panel though as I was inlove with my previous LG monitor but I need to shell out nearly twice as more money [$1200 for the 34GN850 :( ] for it when compared to a VA Panel for the same size of screen here in my country (where highend stuff are overpriced and usually dont have stocks). Overall, I was still impressed by how much the VA panel performed having seen VA Panels too from a few years ago(which sucked in terms of color and black smearing). The main eye opener for me was really the refresh rate upgrade as I usually play FPS games and racing games. I agree on your points though, great video man.
You've missed the worst VA issue, probably because you GPU is too good to notice. VA panels have Freesync blinking, specially in the VRR actuation zone. The image flicker/blinks like hell, and it's because VA pixels brightness oscilates with tension changes, and different framerates have different tension. I really don't know how they even exist, the just doesn't work, anyone with functional eyes can see. VA monitors shouldn't offer Freesync as a feature!
Ah, so this explains what i'm seeing on my Gigabyte G32QC VA panel all the time, even in youtube videos! Welp, time to switch back to IPS then! Because that shit is annoying as hell!
I've been using a curved VA monitor for over 2 years and I don't regret it. I use it for browsing and working. I don't play games, I never noticed the "black smearing" thing. I wanted to buy the same model with IPS panel, but the cables behind it would have forced me to move my speakers and I don't have extra space in my desk. I tried to go back to IPS monitors twice already but I ended up going back to my old VA. The first one was Dell monitor with great colors and uniformity, but the text looked terribly pixelated. It was unbearable. The second IPS was a BenQ, colores looked exactly the same as in the VA panel, texts looked good enough but the uniformity of the screen was pretty bad out the box, the left side was brighter and the right side looked more bluish than the rest. I'm always talking about cheap monitors here. The VA has uniformity issues too but they were noticeable after at least 1 year of use, not right out the box. Viewing angles?? Who watches a monitor from the side?? That's important in an office or working environment with many people watching at the same screen. If you're alone, you don't care about that. The colors and uniformity, that depends on the panel. The Dell IPS I tried had better colors and uniformity than the BenQ out the box, price on both was about the same. Also my VA is curved and VA were flat, that's huge difference for the eyes too. So, I'm keeping the VA, it's good enough for me. If you play games and/or have 500+ dollars to spend (or your daddy has), sure and IPS is definitely the way to go, at that price range the IPS monitors compensate most of their weaknesses agains a VA. If you're on a budget instead, it depends on the use. If you play games and don't care about IPS glow, greyish blacks and all that, go for an IPS. If you do not play often, I guess you wouldn't notice the black smearing and you want deeper blacks for watching content, go with a VA panel. For normal browsing/working use, they're exactly the same, at least you really look for the differences, you won't notice them.
Overall it seems you got 2 bad IPS panels...going to anything good from dell or LG preferably you would never go back. And now with the nanoIPS, things got even better
As for overall usability i spent €750 of my precious money (€250 over this one i show here) and I never looked back for a second. I still have the first good monitor I bought like 7 years ago. Things that i dont mind spending more are good PSUs and good monitors since they can be used for ages
I don't regret that I bought a 4k 60hz(IPS) monitor ;) And I totally agree with all aspects in this video, it's really true. As we can see in the comments below, somebody just can't accept it. And not all IPS monitors are good, my friend bought a 4k 60hz monitor like me(another model, and manufacturer), but after an hour he said that his eyes started bleeding. He changed the monitor to the model as mine, and now he feels well. It's a bit lottery.

I've been rocking a 20 yr old Benq monitor but I'm looking to upgrade. 60 Hz just isn't available cutting it now that I have finally built my gaming PC. It's not a $5000 beast but definitely pushes more than 60 FPS. I've been shopping and researching for a couple months months and videos like yours are pointing me in the right direction. Thanks
as an owner of a odyssey g7 for almost a year and an owner for 2 weeks of a lg 27gn950 ultragear I really really can't see any big difference in either monitors in terms of color vibrant but I can see the black difference in odyssey being far superior and in games like overwatch there is no difference in clarity between 2k or 4k monitor but the 240hz vs 144hz is so smoother on odyssey. I tried to send back the ips lg cause I thought it's a waste of money I love g7 for that black and smoother image on fast pace games but neither the shop or lg won't take it back cause it have no problem....

I have my AOC VA monitor it is amazing, I used a 24" IPS screen but gave it to my brother, because of COVID and working from home I needed a 27" monitor atleast for work, I bought a VA monitor. It looks really good with text and everything, but when I started gaming on it, OMG it looks amazing and adjusted a bit of saturation and colors and it looks amazing, after gaming on it for 1 1/2 year I am not going back to any other monitor. Maybe because I have 27" I did not have any issues you mentioned. I use overdrive in medium settings. I use motion blur only on NFS games, others I don't because it spoil my screenshots. My monitor is AOC CQ27G1 27" 144Hz. All my games look and run really great on this monitor. I use XFX 5700 XT thicc II gpu. Also my room is a bit dark and I use the monitor at night a lot to work and game so.
Yes but no. Today there are very few ultra-wide ips. And I got a 34 "144hz for less than 400 euros. To play, right now the best value for money are the VA panels. The only annoying thing is the ghosting with the black ones as you say. The rest, it doesn't bother me.
Explains a lot. My LG 32GK650F-B and my Hisense 55U8G have it. Doesn't bother me but I consider all things in display choice to be trade-offs. OLED screens also have it.
Oh no they dont, OLED have no ghosting at all anywhere. OLED is the supreme texhnology is everyhting (even latency) being burn in the only possible issue
For me, I have a viewsonic 27 inch 1440p VA that I'm using as main monitor; it's workable for my use case. It depends on the games you're playing - with MHW, Forza and some fighting games, it's not a big deal. However if I load up the sjw history rewriting propaganda that nobody called out that is 'Hades', then the black smearing is unbearable...but luckily I don't play that game anymore, so for the games I do play, it's not that big a deal. The issue with IPS is it costs so damn much it's not even funny - and you have backlight bleed to deal with. I'm still looking around of a sub $200 27" 1440p IPS display ( or around $200) to use as the main monitor (I bought this VA monitor on a sale for $180 USD), but until that time, I'm rocking with this one. Oh, I also use vesa mount so the viewing angles don't really affect me - I'm directly in front of my screen, no window behind me and if I want to watch a movie, I'll rotate the entire arm.
Flat VA panels hell no. Curved work far far better. People really hate the sharper curve of the samsung neo series but my god that va panel is perfect. Yes its not for productivity but for content consumption and especially gaming No IPS panel even comes close.
Brightness uniformity is not a plague of VA but rather of all LCD monitors, some are nasty some are good, same for the black uniformity. the back smearing sure it's a VA problem but with a Samsung Odyssey G7 you will most likely have no big issues with that.
@@AncientGameplays Yeah I agree, however I my self hate the all LCD technology by it self... It's either a case of having something fast for gaming but sucking so badly on some scenes or having something all around-good on every scene but not much good at gaming. I specially hate gray blacks and can't stand light bleed specially IPS glow which when there's light bleed there's really LIGHT BLEED... I'm thinking to maybe upgrade for Optix MAG274QRF-QD some day, but then again I would also hate playing horror\terror games in it not looking very immersive with the blacks being gray and not having the HUGE impact between the darkest things to the brightest things... Guess I'm going for a LG OLED C1 55 inch at November promotions and all the adventure or a most of the SP games that can be played amazing with a controller will be played in the TV instead of the monitor as the only thing amazing in it is colors and speed but the rest is disappointing, bad contrast, bad black and definitely not a very impactful HDR and most are actually kinda fake as they can't really vary brightness that much between each scene leaving the HDR experience very dull flat which the OLED totally delivers...
Just got an IPS monitor (Samsung Odyssey G50A 27") and man the IPS glow is insane. Playing a horror game like Resident Evil 7 at the "recommended" brightness that it tells you in the settings makes the game pretty much unplayable. The bottom left area of the screen is almost pure white, and the rest is a very hazy gray. I thought about getting a VA since they supposedly resolve these issues, but man looks like you just can't completely win with either one. If only OLED monitors were more affordable.
@@AncientGameplays well I mean you pretty much shit on them the whole video. The monitors are great, and can say most do not regret them. They're highly rated for a reason.
@@sophisticatedraccoon I understand you want to maybe justify your buy, but like I said in the video this is my opinion, but the fact they have black smearing is not. And anyone used to a regular monitor will find it unusable in dark to light color transitions (or vice versa). It is what it is. Only the Samsung G7 and G9 don't have black smearing but only at over 200Hz. Get below that and it will start appearing, smearing or overshooting
I've got a curved Samsung Odyssey G5 27" 1440p 144hz 1000R 16:9 VA-panel and I couldn't be happier with it especially since I paid 200€ for it over two years ago. Looking forward to upgrading to an OLED display at some point, but there's no hurry since this is perfect for now.
I was and still am the happy owner of a VA monitor, the Philips BDM4065UC. Today I bought the LG 42C3 to replace it, I never noticed any smearing problems on my VA, except if I activated Fast mode. As I always had this mod turned off, I lived happily with my VA monitor for almost 7 years, until today, when I decided to go for an OLED, just to have even more contrast, especially now that I'm playing Starfield. IPS, with its lack of blacks and often hypersaturated colors, trying to compensate for the absence of blacks, making the image artificial, was always out of the question for me! The only place I like IPS panels is on cell phones. Interestingly, I also like the IPS screens I have on my VR helmet, a Pimax 8KX, despite previously using an HTC Vive Pro, which had OLED screens.
I agree. I bought a VA Monitor. Yes image quality was good but it was not accurate. I tried playing games on my ips TV after playing on the VA monitor. I found IPS is way more sharp and has more details. Than i bought a 1080p IPS and it beats the 4k VA in photorealism.. Plus VA monitor gave me eye strain. With ips you can game for hours without eye strain.
I get dual mon, 32inch 4k @va, 27 inch fhd@ips, 4k mon for movies because the black screen is very good... if you want the best performance @ this moment, no ips, no va... should consider oled, 4k@120fps, high quality of color/picture presented, better response time, hdr, less input lag, atmos sound.
Yap, if it's not a Samsung G7 then it's not worth it. Smearing, washed up colors, normally curved (I don't like curved). The response times in dark areas are also bad. G7 is the only one without those problems
Me and my brother cannot get over the black smerring that usually comes with VA monitors. I rather take TN or IPS. But for sure IPS or Oled would be the overall winner.
TN is dead, I mean, it was dead years ago. Current VA panels are MUCH better in terms o smearing (thank god) and OLEDs are the best for sure. Watch the smearing of this one, almost not noticeable at over 80-100Hz: th-cam.com/video/bbg_7L22jfY/w-d-xo.html
Well, for me, since I came from a TN 1080p panel to a VA 1440p, both 27 inch, Im way happier now. I also have an IPS just for the job, and I can't tell the difference in terms of color quality, but it is too persona,l and the use for the monitor importance, wether just gaming or professional.
I from IPS LG 34GN850 to current mini-LED in VA Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 and no regret and they is no black smearing. I agreed most cheap VA panel have black smearing issue and some is very bad. But high quality VA panel doesn't have such issue, for example Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, Neo G8 and also Neo G7. Too bad is they is not much choices and Samsung did not selling their new gen VA panel for others manufacturer yet.
@@AncientGameplays Man, you goofy as hell, you acting like you've tested every single VA monitors. I do have a va panel as 2nd monitor and it doesn't have black smearing, the motion rendering is better on IPS though. Do some research before acting like a goofy fanboy.
i mean the curvature on those samsungs makes them impossible for a multimonitor setup pushing me towards looking at the 800$ 32" at that rate i did what i did...and got a va 34" 21:9 for 450$ and an open box 2021 LG 83b for 350$ total so same cost...2 monitors....1 for FPS and moba, the 21:9 for arpg/mmo/racing/pve/loot based slashers and shooters. Also i can sell my 21:9 once LG launches the 43" oled cx and C1 which are a far more ideal large format display and more ideal pixel density. With the advent of DLSS my 3070 can gladly push 4k. Due to the C1's performance to pixel uniformity and response time from 60hz-120hz in adaptive sync scenarios that various flagship monitors cant even deliver. Largely for PVE maxed settings gaming as far as overshoot/ghosting etc at low hz with overdrive enabled(typically has to be disabled) for 6ms+ as it is in AAA games among the frametime aspects of these AAA engines with 60-100 fps. So i can essentially play CP2077 RDR2 hell even BF2042 in 4k with a ps5 controller from my bed or a beanbag XD.
Yeah, if IPS panels could somehow get better light bleed and higher contrast (perhaps a new technology like they did with TN+Film) would be really a game changer
I should have watched this video 2 months ago... Last month I bought a 32 inch curved VA panel. Overall it's good but sometimes that ghosting/black smearing effect is noticeable...but as I use it on a dark environment over night the contrast and brightness levels are more forgiving to my eyes... Nice video. Keep it up. 👍
I didn't notice black smearing on my LG 32GN650B until I played the resident evil 4 remake. Literally every branch and shadow would smear. Had to turn HDR off and increase brightness to make it go away
I have the same monitor and weirdly I notice smearing in FIFA more than any other game?? I want to try the Iyaama gb3461 as that is the cheapest IPS with 144hz in the uk.
Got a VA monitor and black smearing has started to get really annoying specially when playing RE4 Remake... I reduced that effect A LOT by rising shadow control to 6/10 and setting Overdrive to high. But contrast ratio fell to the ground. Tho an IPS doesn't seem too promising either. Idk what to do anymore, guess I'll buy a goddamn tv 😂
Even all of them panel can have black smearing. It depends on panel quality, best ones you get, wont have those issues on VA and TN panel. Even ips panel can have those issue and ips glow which is horrible. VA is the future for colors and better response times combo. Look up hardware unboxed, he makes best monitor benchmark.
I guess you haven't tried nor seen the Samsung G7 yet. Other VA monitors are no match to it. Also keep in mind that there are so many new monitors using old panels (Not hard to check) while just pumping the refresh rate up to sell them, as well as many of them need colors calibration/profile out of the box.
@@AncientGameplays I think your ego is whats embarrassing here. I haven't seen a single benchmark nor testing of each panel that you're telling ppl to not buy in your misleading video other than mentioning Colors/Smearing. No Grey to Grey, No Input Lag Delay, No Color Mapping, ZERO numbers and test given. Not to mention that you're the one who's living under the rock talking about a VA vs. IPS old news panels thinking you've made the most fully packed infos video without showing a single proper test of each brand panel, and even if your video was targeted for the newbies you still failed to provide them with the right infos other than just talking about yourself and what you like and dislike. which in fact provide nothing for both party with a do not buy in caps followed by a 9 mins of what YOU prefer to use the AKA quick budget video for quick views as a goal cause no monitors to test nor care to provide a proper tested facts but DO NOT BUY easier i guess. @@Facehate666 Actually I said it several times. That just proves how you don't watch enough info of this channel to actually be able to speak my friend. Its the same in terms of CPUs, i said SEVERAL TIMES that (for example) the 10400F and 11400F were the way to go in terms of mid range CPUs and that AMD could not compete in that price/performance bracket. Also said long time ago (when i actually had a chance to test the GTX 1660S and prices weren't crazy as now) that for that price range, the GTX 1660S was the card to go, as the RX 5500XT was more expensive in most countries and offered lower performance. If there's a thing I am proud of is to NEVER be biased :D
I bought a va lg32gk650f from a friend since he gave best deal almost 50% for 7 month old monitor, before that i was using a 27inch ips panel Man o man I mostly use at night or even when at morning my room is full of dark until i had this va panel i had no idea that monitor couldn't strain my eyes no more, ips was more strainer for sure at night, va damn i didn't even notice i was using for long hours Yeah that ghosting is visible unless you notice it but my lg one has trick option to trick it, almost reduces ghosting 90% when using faster response time + capped at 120hz + 1ms motion blur 🙂 btw i have 3080 so barely noticeable and I love the deep blacks really
All VA Panels except the Samsung Odyssey G7 are catastrophic for me, because of the dark smearing. It's soo distracting in my opinion, I just can't stand it. So I bought the G7 because of the rich contrast and the 240hz on 1440p. The dark level transition is exceptional, even if compared with top IPS panels. No problems with smearing, rich contrast, great colors, hdr looks very good too. Really the best monitor for my case
Each and every point you mention is true. In some TH-cam videos you can watch comparisons mentioning pros and cons, but they are never clear or defined as you made it here. Got a VA monitor, experienced the difference in colour and brightness along the panel. Then noticed the ghosting and that was the boiling point for me. After watching your video and recognizing all what you mentioned I sent back the VA and got an IPS. I'm happy now. IPS is not perfect either, but it's much more decent. Has a bit of IPS glow, but that's presumably unavoidable (and something you can live with). Unfortunately it seems nowadays it's not about which ones is the best, but which one is the less flawed... I have a smaller TN monitor and regardless of what anyone may say, that screen has none of these issues (it just that they don't manufacture bigger TN monitors...) 2 tips for manufacturers: - Add the A-TW polarizer (that used to come with some monitors!) to reduce or eliminate IPS glow. - Make white monitors that also have white bezels (if only the back is white, then it's pointless 🙂). Having a white monitor with a white wall behind makes it seamless and a nice to have. Anyway, apologies for the rambling and thank you very much for the video (it's really helpful!!) Keep it up! 😉
I just got my 1440p monitor today but I found out it has a VA panel. I immediately realized that the text were very uncomfortable to look at. I seems blurry and unsmooth. Do IPS panels have clear text compared with VA panels?
@@AncientGameplays Newer super speed VA monitors fixed mostly of the black smearing! There is some black smearing but it's small, only issue is washed out colors from side and up but it's worth it especailly if you playing at night with amazing contrast.
I have an old 27" Acer 1400p 144Hz IPS display. I've had it for about 4 years or so now and am still waiting for something a LOT better. Computer monitors have been stagnant for so long, it's depressing. OLED could have been a thing but due to burn in issues on static desktops are a no-go and making them smaller seems to be an issue for the manufacturers anyhow. Micro LED seems like a never ending pipe dream.
There are already oled monitors and they will come more and more i am sure, burn in happens more at higher brightnesses. People had oleds for years with no such problem...i mean, we have amoleds in our smatphones
So my 32" Dell curved 1440P 165Hz monitor is VA and I have to move almost 2 feet left and right to get the colors to wash out. Who the hell is bobbing left and right like Stevie Wonder while gaming to produce this level of color fading? Also blacks have always been wonderful on my monitor and it's HDR. I understand that some VA Panels may be bad but for $327 on sale this monitor has been absolutely amazing and the reviews will show that as well. Blanketly saying "do not buy a VA panel" seems a little short sighted and not completely informative. I love your videos man! I really do. I just do not agree with you totally on this one.

Same
Having poor contrast is much better then having a black smear. What's the use of that huge contrast when as soon as you start moving in game you get that smear into different colors? Like purple on CFG70? It just makes game look like washed out garbage.
@@sermerlin1 it depends on the monitor and settings, on mine xiaomi ultrawide the smearing is minimal
@@xW3rder Yeah, that's what i'm trying to say on my other comments too.
Smearing exists on every VA panel unless you play static games.
Just bought an asus VA monitor, yeah forget IPS man never going back. I love the deeper blacks and the ghosting/smear is mimimal to my eyes.
The smear usually comes in lower frequencies, usually as you go below 160Hz on top tier panels. The lower you go, the more smearing you have. So if you're playing a single player game at lets say, 80fps, you're gonna suffer

Oh, I also calibrated it using a Colormunki iDisplay. It's pretty accurate. I can agree that most VA panels aren't that good, especially on the cheap(er) monitors. Black smearing is not really noticable.
I have the same monitor. Honestly it's the best I ever owned.
I have the same one and I vastly prefer it to the IPS I had before. I can't really see black smearing either.
Hey, i mean, i talked about the price/perf ratio in the end as well. That panel is 16:9 so the 2 first parts do not apply so much, but the black smearing does, and if you guys can't see it, that is another question, but it is definitely there :D

@@EmilBozhilov incredible in what way lol
I recently bought an HDR IPS panel. I bought it mainly for video editing/color grading, with gaming as a secondary function. It's not the best monitor in the world but it's more than adequate for my needs. Colors are excellent, black levels are surprisingly decent and the image overall is very sharp, clear, and more importantly consistent. I think if you're mainly watching video then VA is the better option, if you're a content creator or gamer than IPS is better.
The only thing that will make me give up my 1440p 27" IPS (Dell S2721DGF) monitor will be an affordable high refresh rate oled monitor.
Oled is the future hands down
“Black smearing” reminds me of a few movies I saw in the 70’s.
Actually black smearing tends to be worse depending on the monitor overdrive settings
Black smearing is worse agreed. If you play on 1ms response time its terrible. Ips all Day If you wanna go for that low response time
Totally agreed, IPS glow is terrible and smear is nothing compared to glow.
Potatoe Potato
I have a 60hz VA 8ms response time and the smearing sucks. It got a bit better after adjunsting the gamma. It goes from not really noticible to terrible on CS2 for example.
the VA and TN models 2020-2021 have improved so much that you can barely tell the difference, except for the true blacks you get. hardware unboxed clears that up. i think VA its fine, unless an older monitor model.
This monitor is from 2020 :)
VA needs 5 more years at least
Agreed
Exactly black purle smearing
I had a Lenovo Legion super ultrawide 32:10 VA monitor. I loved it in all other aspects, but the black smearing was ridiculous, it totally ruins the monitor. Never buying a VA-panel again. Waiting eagerly for OLED monitors to really hit the market
I feel you man
I'm using an old HP Omen 32" monitor.
You have no problems on the color because you're running 16:9, not 21:9
@@AncientGameplays Yes, absolutely. I like flight sims so I don't have an ultra-widescreen monitor. Actually, for flight sims I wish they still made 4:3 ones.

I personally think it is a good mix between ips and tn. I bought it for the good contrast and i don't notice smearing on my Samsung lc24fg73

Wow. I have been looking for ultrawide all month and all are VA. You posted this in perfect time. Just left micro center

I have a AOC CQ32G1 that I bought Dec 2019 on a big sale and have never regretted it. If you need it for gaming, office work and very basic graphic design VA is pretty ok.
Never said it wasnt okay. Just that people on the gaming side will most likely regret it
Ive learned this lesson the hard way,the ghosting and smearing on a oddysey g5 is just insane,it felt like playing with motion blur ,and as soon as the fps dropped bellow 144fps the smearing and ghosting became way worse.Switched to a more expensive ips Gigabyte M27Q and the difference is night and day, like going from sub hd resolution to full hd,the fluidity ,the clarity.
I know right? Some people will still defend VA lol
"Useless for dark scenes"... no, just no. Get a good ips and even dark scenes are okay
@@AncientGameplays What's a good IPS one though? They all glow like crazy. I tried a bunch of IPS screens a few years back (including an outrageously expensive one!) and they were all terrible. Color reproduction is awesome and there's less blur than VA, but the glow is really awful.
Get Oled for watching movies. And use IPS as a monitor.
I have the Samsung G7
I have been using it for more than 1 year, its just so satisfying to look at it.
Yeap, 5:15
From my personal experience I prefer VA panels all the way over ips especially when it comes to gaming. I felt that my ips monitor had bad eye comfort in that it was very tiring for my eyes and in videogames movement feels much more fluid on my VA monitor. Then there is also the greater contrast ratio and the picture looking way more detailed and HighRes compared to ips. But I must say its not worth buying a curved model. Because curved in general is stupid. I curently look for a flat va panel but there are only a handful monitors to choose from.
I feel you feel that way because you had a very bas IPS monitor vs a decent VA now... also, curved is waayyyyyy better, you just didn't understand it
@@AncientGameplays The IPS monitor I had was not lacking in quality.
I use mine daily for gaming/editing :D
But we like what we like
what is your monitor model ?
VA is full motion blur
i still love VA panel because i hate gray background on IPS panel (compare Dark Background) but if compose VA+IPS it's perfect.
Damn...then that va panel sucks...
Yeah, g7 is one of the few that has no smearing at all at over 180-200hz
Yeah man I have a G7 and it's great. But I have a low end 1080p va and it's terrible lol
Qled is quite the top you can get for VA, but a good IPS will always have better colors vs a good VA, but VAs improved a lot over the years (like ips did)
the black smearing on the VA panel gave me headaches, since i mainly game i switched to IPS and its so much better.
Yeah, i dont know how people can "defend" the smearing
Humm, interesting, never noticed any kind of flicker here, not even at lower fps numbers
@@AncientGameplays It's more notticeable between 45~75fps, and I don't know why, but it's clearly worst on Nvidia GPUs.

Things that i dont mind spending more are good PSUs and good monitors since they can be used for ages

as an owner of a odyssey g7 for almost a year and an owner for 2 weeks of a lg 27gn950 ultragear I really really can't see any big difference in either monitors in terms of color vibrant but I can see the black difference in odyssey being far superior and in games like overwatch there is no difference in clarity between 2k or 4k monitor but the 240hz vs 144hz is so smoother on odyssey. Yes but no. Today there are very few ultra-wide ips. And I got a 34 "144hz for less than 400 euros. To play, right now the best value for money are the VA panels. The only annoying thing is the ghosting with the black ones as you say. The rest, it doesn't bother me.
Jave to disagree, there are way mpre VA sure, but there are lots of ips panels ultrawide...
Your videos have been very helpful, thank you!
Thank you for watching my friend :D
Exactly, but VA needs like 5 more years to get rid of the smearing i think

Maybe you got bad and uncalibrated IPS panels with no flicker free
@@AncientGameplays nano ips issue
@@ManOfAttitudeLP1998 not at all, i have a nano.ips. zero issues

@@ManOfAttitudeLP1998 never heard such thing, how cana flicker free monitor cause such issues...
Well, you should calibrate it. Also, you may have gotten a bad one
Samsung's odyssey monitors are a va monitor, I've had them for a year and have had no issues with viewing angle
Because they are 16:9, i explain that
@@AncientGameplays well I mean you pretty much shit on them the whole video.
@@AncientGameplays Nah not true, it's funny because in some comments you say over 180hz in some 200hz, which is it pal lol
@@AdiiS its around that depending on the overdrive settings you have. Go watch some real reviews like tftcentral and so on and you'll see...
Using cheap 32" VA monitor. 99% looks fine, few dark scenes are terrible. Not sure if I would buy again, maybe because of price.
That's what i tell everyone who wants a high-refresh panel..however Samsung Oddysey G7 is one exception.
True
I've got a curved Samsung Odyssey G5 27" 1440p 144hz 1000R 16:9 VA-panel and I couldn't be happier with it especially since I paid 200€ for it over two years ago. Looking forward to upgrading to an OLED display at some point, but there's no hurry since this is perfect for now.
LMAO that intro, poor reporter, she's Brazilian, one of the best ones, never seen this blooper before
I was and still am the happy owner of a VA monitor, the Philips BDM4065UC.
Thanks stranger Helped me massive specially with the due upgrade on my triples. Will stick to IPS as I did for the last 10 years.
Oled is the top
Yap, if it's not a Samsung G7 then it's not worth it. Smearing, washed up colors, normally curved (I don't like curved). The response times in dark areas are also bad. G7 is the only one without those problems
Let me just correct you, without those problems, IF you're running over 200Hz
I agree 👍
If the G7 wasn't curved and didn't have g-sync problems it would be my perfect monitor
@@MrEditsCinema it also has sleep mode wake up issues
Me and my brother cannot get over the black smerring that usually comes with VA monitors. I rather take TN or IPS. But for sure IPS or Oled would be the overall winner.
TN is dead, I mean, it was dead years ago. Current VA panels are MUCH better in terms o smearing (thank god) and OLEDs are the best for sure.
Watch the smearing of this one, almost not noticeable at over 80-100Hz: th-cam.com/video/bbg_7L22jfY/w-d-xo.html
@@AncientGameplays VA definitely has come a long way.
Coming from a TN, a VA is definitely a good upgrade (just not black smearing)
I from IPS LG 34GN850 to current mini-LED in VA Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 and no regret and they is no black smearing. I agreed most cheap VA panel have black smearing issue and some is very bad. But high quality VA panel doesn't have such issue, for example Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, Neo G8 and also Neo G7. Too bad is they is not much choices and Samsung did not selling their new gen VA panel for others manufacturer yet.
All va panels have black smearing. It is because it is VA, that's how it works. As soon as you go to lower Hz/fps, it appears
@@AncientGameplays Man, you goofy as hell, you acting like you've tested every single VA monitors. I do have a va panel as 2nd monitor and it doesn't have black smearing, the motion rendering is better on IPS though. Do some research before acting like a goofy fanboy.
my 3440x1440p Va 34inch 144hz it’s so cool and was pretty cheap..if i wanted an ips it would be more than double
@Anna 20 y.o - check my vidéó wtf u talk about?
VA is good for night. Samsung G7 has improved VA a lot. IPS is where my money is tho. Although I find their light bleed annoying at night.
i mean the curvature on those samsungs makes them impossible for a multimonitor setup pushing me towards looking at the 800$ 32" at that rate i did what i did...and got a va 34" 21:9 for 450$ and an open box 2021 LG 83b for 350$ total so same cost...2 monitors....1 for FPS and moba, the 21:9 for arpg/mmo/racing/pve/loot based slashers and shooters.
@@AncientGameplays Let’s hope so. IPS has sure come along just fine. Now having screen speeds on par or even faster than TNs. 😎
I should have watched this video 2 months ago... Last month I bought a 32 inch curved VA panel. Overall it's good but sometimes that ghosting/black smearing effect is noticeable...but as I use it on a dark environment over night the contrast and brightness levels are more forgiving to my eyes... Nice video. Keep it up. 👍
Brightness levels depend if the panel is good or bad, but the contrast is way better in va panels
I get smearing with performance mode on my gigabyte screen but its gone with quality mode, maybe try that, it probably affects reponse time though
I didn't notice black smearing on my LG 32GN650B until I played the resident evil 4 remake. Literally every branch and shadow would smear. Had to turn HDR off and increase brightness to make it go away
All VAs have smearing to a point
I have a MSI Optix MAG341CQ with a VA panel and it's fine.
I never said it wasnt "fine"...now is it "good"? Not really...somw more years maybe...
I dont mind trading a bit of contrast. Get oled if you can haha
No, ips panels are literally better in anything apart contrast actually
@@AncientGameplays did you learn any real facts yet?
I guess you haven't tried nor seen the Samsung G7 yet. Other VA monitors are no match to it.
Also keep in mind that there are so many new monitors using old panels (Not hard to check) while just pumping the refresh rate up to sell them, as well as many of them need colors calibration/profile out of the box.

Image quality is much much better on a VA Panel,it's not even comparable. The contrast is great and blacks look great. IPS is terrible.
Contrast being higher doesn mesn image quality is higher. Color fidelity is lower usually, and with black smearing
Yes those monitors only have some smearing at low hz :D
Happy buyer of an AOC CQ32G1 CURVED VA monitor...
Great! Have you ever had a good IPS one?
Upgraded form an ASUS VC239H 23' probably not that good :D
I have a smaller TN monitor and regardless of what anyone may say, that screen has none of these issues (it just that they don't manufacture bigger TN monitors...)
2 tips for manufacturers:
- Add the A-TW polarizer (that used to come with some monitors!) to reduce or eliminate IPS glow.
Glad you enjoy your new one 💪
yeah the good old ips glow is giving me eye strain for years... i switched back to a tn panel until ill go oled
