Just a few of my own notes
    - I find that I get hit by a lot of 500ms lights from neutral when my mind is half-occupied with how to adapt my own offense to the opponent's defensive read preferences. If I'm just turtling, my "reaction speeds" improve massively, against both single stimulus and multiple choice reactions. But then my own offense is prone to be read and countered.
In a lot of cases, its not as simple as "enemy loves dodge attacking, so I'll always feint my UB heavy into parry" (which anyone can figure out in an instant, unless its like 2am lmao). Its like "the enemy has a probable pattern of letting my first finisher UB fly, then dodge attacking, then parrying, but only if I enter that UB heavy mixup via a 500ms light with its light hitstun, and the opponent has a different defensive pattern if I enter the same mixup but via a different hitstun (e.g., heavy attack after a light parry)". There's a lot of complexity in how an opponent's defensive pattern could be, and you have to think it through in real time while also defending against your opponent trying to do the same to you. And this is just in a duel. In a teamfight, especially if there's multiple of the same Hero on the enemy team, its almost impossible for me to adapt. I end up falling into my default offensive patterns.
Another thing I've noticed is that blocking lights is a lot easier than parrying them. I've never quite understood this, because I thought the guard switch for blocking and parrying is the same (at 100ms), but it seems that I always need to react earlier in order to get a parry off. Pre-CCU this wasn't an issue since there was plenty of time to block and parry, but post-CCU I can block 500ms lights on reaction consistently but only rarely parry 500ms lights on reaction. And this is even if I am anticipating a 500ms light. The only 500ms lights that are easy for me to parry are ones where I know they're going to come from a certain direction (e.g., BPs/Kyoshin's trying to Superior Block CC with their Opener Lights).

This was awesome man. A very eye opening video. I’ve been working on a little project for a bit now where I try to improve my reaction times by spending the first 30 or so minutes of every play session in training with reflex guards trying to get at least 3-6 light parries in a row and then I go out into the game to see if it makes a difference and upload my experience!
So far I’ve noticed that no matter what I can’t usually start landing the lights in training right away and that it always takes a few tries to get in the reaction frame of mind.
Duel Modes: it has made a pretty solid difference, I would still say that about 80% of the light parries and deflects I get are read based, but that’s much better than the 100% of the past.
Dominion and other 4v4s: definitely less reliable, but like was said in your video I believe that is more due to the environment. It’s a lot more high stress and there are a lot more things on the screen pulling your attention away from indicators and animations. That being said I still have noticed a difference in the uptick of light parries, it’s just not as easy to gather consistent numbers there.
All in all so far just doing some training with a reflex guard bot isn’t going to make you a parry god, BUT it will improve your chances of landing them in my opinion. That in tandem with practicing making reads on opponents and paying more attention to what they do (if/then stuff. “If they do this then you do that”) will definitely give noticeable results when it comes to the consistency in your reaction times!
Edit: since I didn’t mention it: I play on Ps5 with a normal TV. Though I am upgrading to a nicer setup soon so I’m very curious if having a 4K tv that could really support a better frame rate will make a bigger difference!

If you are on new gen and you can't block lights consistently you arnt gonna. That's just the unfortunate truth. Research shows that reactions can only be improved by 20%. A limit many gamers have reached long before touching for honor.

As a console player since launch, For Honor has evolved and I feel it became less about genuine neural reactions and more about reads and mindgames. Especially to parry/deflect consistently. I’m on PS5 now and I do notice I can parry way more on reaction now rather than old gen however you also have to take into account ping, input delay etc which can even damage the new gen and make certain things unreactable.

Glad that you noted factors like set up, peripherals and especially whether or not someone is well rested and exercising. Mood as well I think is a factor here too, speaking for myself of course I find myself playing and enjoying the game more when I'm in better spirits rather than when overly stressed.
I also want to point out that reactions, while important and obviously have benefits it's not the be all and end all of how good you are or can be at the game.
Game knowledge and moment to moment decision making, reviewing your own games and practicing with and against heroes you struggle against goes a very long way into improving your skill level far more than being able to consistently parry storm rush. That said, I would always advocate practising reacting to moves that are considered reactable by competitive players but don't feel discouraged if you find it to be difficult.
And get more sleep and hydrate. Look after yourself and you'll find your gaming experience much better win or lose.

Your participation request doesn't say whether you should have feedback timing on. Feedback timing makes you able to see the indicator faster (because there something moving).
Without timing feedback, I parry lights in frame 5 or frame 6 of the window. With feedback timing I parry as early as frame 2 or 3, so it can make a 100ms difference. I guess movement is for me much easier to see than just the red indicator..

the slightest little tell is enough to distinguish the side. it does take practice, much moreso on console (if you're on old gen, i wouldn't even recommend trying to react to it tbh). the easiest one to distinguish is the top one from the regular. look for anything i.e. foot placement, whether he spins sooner or later, if his arms move a certain way. anything at all and then just practice looking for those.

I think I make a good job of keeping my opponent guessing what I am going to do, I play centurion most of the time yet I find that people don't really fall for the charged jab into GB that often... Perhaps it is because I am predicable and I just don't know it, but anyways I stopped playing recently because I just can't keep up with new gen and pc players, as soon as they find out I can't block lights consistently I keep getting poked and eventually lose. After some months (more than a year) with constant playing I've got ability to react to light attacks not with parry but even with deflects. My flex was deflecting everyone with shaman and give bleeding for opponents a lot. I was capable to do it just some periods of time and of course it's hard. But even with it on high-skill level plays a lot of players was manageable to defeat me because there are more mechanics than just "lol, react on everything". Bashes, feints, grabs, windows for moves.
That was before that rework that happened few years ago with changing "time to show a move with indicators".

Videogames were always a gateway for players who aren't as physically capable to compete with others on a stage where it doesn't matter as much. I support keeping the pushes to reduce reliance on reaction in favour of game sense. Keyword being reduce, not remove.
I like that the competitive scene has been pushing for parry flash removal. I think the best way is to make consistent reactions harder, not making reacting impossible which removing parry flash does well. Not sure what should be done about bashes.

So can someone explain to me how the hell 400 ms lights is not reactable in most cases, but a 300-500 ms bash is somehow magically reactable? I don't get that. If the bash is faster than the 400 ms light, then how is it somehow more reactable than the slower light that wasn't? It makes no sense to me.

    • @commodorekhan8602
      @commodorekhan8602 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

the 300-500 ms part is simply the input window. The part that maybe didn't get mentioned is that the actual bash in most cases is 500 ms. it also depends on whether or not the hero with the legion's kick bash has another move whose animation blends well with the bash, thus making it harder to react to (ex. Zhanhu bash/dodge forward heavy, Black Prior forward dodge bash/forward dodge have the same animation startup). 500ms bash with variable window vs. 400ms light that in some cases is multidirectional (ex. Nuxia, Shaolin, etc.), the 400ms light ends up being harder to react to

If I am playing with others who have a ping under 20, I see their animations late. If they are on an unstable wifi, I will get hit by invisible attacks. The game also shows animations past cancels. So, I will be seeing parry flash, but the enemy cancels. Also, when fighting console players of ANY ping, connection is terrible.

For example, most decent PC players can react to legion kick bashes if they practiced in training mode. But that number would go down a fair amount if they were in a real duel, trying to react to empty dodge+gb, light attacks, dodge forward heavy feint, etc.
