Well Apollyon was like Holden she was a woman of honor of creed of chivalry but her trauma as a child the raid of her home the rape murder and plunder of her friends and family shaped her she found peace could not exist in world where what she experienced was possible then it would be unexplainable barbarism and have no place in the world she found honor and chivalry and peace to be false a blanket to comfort the weak that would sit idle as the strong died for them she believed in a black and white point of view that the strong were serving the weak she then in return subjugated and punished the weak to bring out the strong Among them asters rages war on the weak she believes that all who are not wolves must die Apollyon didn’t believe that she thought all the weak pretending to be strong must die she believed they had a proper place and was trimmed those that stepped out of line she saw the world through all factions not just knightly ideals and she used that for her purpose of showing the world her truth and now Holden has traveled the world once a man of honor creed and chivalry but instead of a soul haunted and twisted into a demon by trauma he’s now a man of redemption he was a lawbringer who broke his code and now searches to uphold peace and redeem himself of the demon he let himself become he changes his armor language beard to try and find who his is he’s not Holden he’s gryphon but he doesn’t know who gryphon is he wants no recognition he wants peace and atonement the difference between between him and Apollyon is instead of fighting to bring out the strong and show the world of his truths or ideals to justify atrocities that shouldn’t be allowed in a world of peace he fights to end such atrocities so peace may come one day he seeks his redemption not an explanation Astrea fights in the visage of Apollyon for her on corruption of Apollyons ideals and her betterment she has no excuse besides her gain she’s a sheep in wolves clothing nothing more nothing less she has no conviction only the goal of war for the sake of killing the weak not to give a point or show the world a ugly truth but to kill and spread corruption she’s not a devil like Apollyon was or Holden once was she’s a infestation of rats spreading a plague for their own gain
Many people hate on astrea, you know, its hard to cover such a large shadow. Still she is a wolf herself after all she has defeted zanhu and other enemies exept for olden cross

Man, times like this make me wish Ubisoft expanded more on the story and characters of For Honor, instead of giving us short and vague descriptions through Events or tidbits.
Ikr, just think how cool it could've been if the story was a lot longer and if we got story expansions with dlc heroes, imagine playing Shinobi or BP in thier own story.
i actually didnt like the story at first but these new characters with their origins made me fucking love it. the whole thing with Apollyon seemed so stupid but when this guy made a video about her and astrea she easily became one of my favorite video game villains and stories of all time

I actually really liked gryphon. Aside from the fact that he was broken at launch, I liked how he went on this journey and made friends and allies from all factions and possibly more. I love how he came back more like Apollyon then Astrea ever will be. How the only thing he wanted was to protect Ashfeld but grew a more open mind and decided to explore the other cultures.

The for honor lore may sometimes have it's flaws in writing's but him originally thinking such a close minded point of view to becoming basically mr worldwide and incorporating many other cultures/factions into his repertoire of skills and language. I like this parallel cause it shows his growth as a character and made him interesting, even if he is annoying to play against in game.

@@confusedravioli2556 Gryphon never was busted, his shove was ass weak and his moveset was decent, but far from OP, the only OP stuffs was the delayed dodge attack (but since back then his block recovery was dumb huge, meaning he cannot block hyper armored heavies), feat 2 AOE and heal and feat 3 speed, damage, heal and AOE. His shove was "strong" because of the Option select input, as opener the shove was bad. Gryphon need buffs, he cannot compete against the actual characters, he is too far behind.
Ok, i just gotta say this: I've searched for a long time now on the internet for a good quality yt channel with For Honor content and here we are. I must say raven, you are doing your job very nicely. I love this channel (even if i don`t know stuff about Warhammer 40k). I espacilly love those story vids where you in-depth describe For Honor characters, and i hope there are more to come. Anyways, keep up the good work and see ya in another video!
Something I feel needs to be addressed is how much of an insult Astrea's entire person is to Holden. She idolizes, glorifies and mimicks Apollyon as an outside observer, not just in person but ideology. Apollyon still had honor of a sort, and the weak who were willing to accept that they were weak would be protected under her. Astrea simply kills, indiscriminately. Seeing this sick, twisted mockery of Apollyon - I couldn't imagine it doing anything other than pissing Holden off. And now he has the opportunity to do what he should have done against the real Apollyon.
Great work as always Raven! But I'm still curious about The Warden. I know he disappeared but I want him to come back and save everyone from Astrea.... That would be a good ending for him.
One day I want to make a film about for honor. And if I ever even get close I want to feature a part in the film where Holden cross or gryphon is on astreas doorstep. It's a reimagining of apollyon waiting for Holden once again, gryphon is ready and a bit cocky. He thinks he will wipe out what's left of horkos how he wiped out almost all the blackstones. But the twist isn't that the warden came back the save gryphon that's to predictable. I want them to reveal at some time in the fight that the warden died long ago while he/she was on there soul search. Some horkos enforcers and astrea jumped him and tried to convert him but he stood steadfast and died fighting. Any hope gryphon had of wardens return is shattered leaving him emotionally open and unguarded alowing astrea to strike back. I'm obsessed with this crap.
These videos make me wish instead of little events we got a new story chapter each season which expands on stuff. I never realized how deep the for honor story was till watching these videos
Apollyon's philosophy was essentially to create a forced deterrence between all three factions after prolonged fighting. If all three factions had stayed in their peak with small scale skirmishes and engagements, Astrea and her factions would've never come into power. All three armies would've responded quickly with battle hardened warriors and troops and crushed her before anything could've happened. Sometimes being in a perpetual state of warfare on a small scale is the best way to maintain peace, because your forces are already experienced in combat and can quickly react to any threat.
I have to say, although the dialogue was bad and some Of the cutscenes being a bit janky - This was a very interesting and new take on story telling for Ubisoft

I love Gryphon's lore and gameplay (Don't start arguing about how i'm a low human being because you don't like Gryphon's gameplay, i'm not here for that), and this video was absolutely amazing, you might say i'm taking this a bit too seriously, but this is the shit that hyped me when i saw the trailer for the first time. Love the character, hands down my favorite hero lore wise. Great vid anyway !
I just noticed that was Ragnar that Apollyon spared only for him to be killed by the Player's Raider after refusing to share food and resources amongst the other clsns and work with them rather than against them.
Hey man. Love the content. Glad to see there is someone who’s invested in the lore like me. I was just wondering (if at all possible) you would do a video like this for ayu and stigandr. From my pov, during the secret meet-up 8 years after Apollyon’s death, judging by the vibes of the final moments of the cutscene, assassins who were loyal to Apollyon’s ideas were to kill all three. It’s obvious that Holden survived the attempt(s), but I just kept wondering what happened to the empress and the jarl. Perhaps during year 5 they’ll bring back one of them like they did Holden last year.

I feel like I know why I like Holden/gryphon cause after he left Apollyon and became a mercenary fighting with other faction leaving there moves there culture and how they work me I’ve been to three different schools knew how they work the code there rights and wrongs and so I learned more just like gryphon
Holden doesn’t want peace, but he also doesn’t want war So, how can you have peace and strength? You can’t It’s quite upsetting, but also just how the world works, only those strong enough to survive will be able to, but the difference between Gryphon and Astrea is that Astrea thinks she needs to get rid of the weak, she needs to remove them all so that only the strongest thrive, but Gryphon understands that there’s strength in everyone, and that’s what the Order of Chimera uses Whereas Astrea extinguishes the dying flames of the people she hates, Gryphon fuels the flames, he brings out their strength, so that in the end they realize who they are, and what they stand for Holden didn’t just DECIDE to become Gryphon, he needed to grow, to learn, to become stronger, and he wants everyone else, those who Astrea would kill just for the hell of it, he wants those people to fight, to prove that they’re not just some weak creatures, that they’re strong and all they needed was PROPER motivation to draw out that strength The Order of Chimera uses a deer as their symbol, and Horkos uses a wolf What do wolves do? When they hunt, they go after the weakest in the herd, but what would happen if that supposedly weak deer drew out its inner strength? What if that deer fought back? They’d show their strength THIS is what Gryphon wants, he wants his herd to draw out their true strength so that if a bloodthirsty wolf comes to prove their strength, they don’t walk away easily Chimera or Horkos? I’m Chimera, I believe that true strength isn’t something you just have, TRUE strength must be built upon, and drawn out with proper motivation Gryphon’s herd of deer, and Astrea’s pack of wolves, THIS is the war, and Apollyon would cheer on Gryphon, because not only did Gryphon use her ideals and follow them, but he’d also use them for the people, he used her ideals to rally people and remove a tyrant, and Apollyon would definitely be proud
I use to think Holden’s journey to Gryphon was a bit stupid and nonsensical but this video has made me really reconsider it and Holden as a character in general. Great work! That said, there is still something about his story that doesn’t quite sit with me and I can’t pinpoint what it is exactly. Might be because I think they went a bit too far with his literal journey across the world, or that the Lord Warden was somehow the ONLY person who took his betrayal of Apollyon seriously (and then straight-up disappeared out of nowhere when Holden would have needed his support - what a guy), or it might just be some reinforcement of the fact that the original factions seemingly mean squat to the writers now, which is saddening. Although that might just all be a byproduct of my hate for the current story and what it introduced and retconned. I do not like it, at all. That being said, I’ll stick with this game until it dies (or pisses me off too much).

I love Gryphon's lore and gameplay (Don't start arguing about how i'm a low human being because you don't like Gryphon's gameplay, i'm not here for that), and this video was absolutely amazing, you might say i'm taking this a bit too seriously, but this is the shit that hyped me when i saw the trailer for the first time. Love the character, hands down my favorite hero lore wise. Great vid anyway !

Hey man. Love the content. Glad to see there is someone who’s invested in the lore like me. I was just wondering (if at all possible) you would do a video like this for ayu and stigandr. From my pov, during the secret meet-up 8 years after Apollyon’s death, judging by the vibes of the final moments of the cutscene, assassins who were loyal to Apollyon’s ideas were to kill all three. It’s obvious that Holden survived the attempt(s), but I just kept wondering what happened to the empress and the jarl. Perhaps during year 5 they’ll bring back one of them like they did Holden last year.

I feel like I know why I like Holden/gryphon cause after he left Apollyon and became a mercenary fighting with other faction leaving there moves there culture and how they work me I’ve been to three different schools knew how they work the code there rights and wrongs and so I learned more just like gryphon

Holden doesn’t want peace, but he also doesn’t want war
So, how can you have peace and strength? You can’t
It’s quite upsetting, but also just how the world works, only those strong enough to survive will be able to, but the difference between Gryphon and Astrea is that Astrea thinks she needs to get rid of the weak, she needs to remove them all so that only the strongest thrive, but Gryphon understands that there’s strength in everyone, and that’s what the Order of Chimera uses
Whereas Astrea extinguishes the dying flames of the people she hates, Gryphon fuels the flames, he brings out their strength, so that in the end they realize who they are, and what they stand for
Holden didn’t just DECIDE to become Gryphon, he needed to grow, to learn, to become stronger, and he wants everyone else, those who Astrea would kill just for the hell of it, he wants those people to fight, to prove that they’re not just some weak creatures, that they’re strong and all they needed was PROPER motivation to draw out that strength
The Order of Chimera uses a deer as their symbol, and Horkos uses a wolf
What do wolves do? When they hunt, they go after the weakest in the herd, but what would happen if that supposedly weak deer drew out its inner strength? What if that deer fought back? They’d show their strength
THIS is what Gryphon wants, he wants his herd to draw out their true strength so that if a bloodthirsty wolf comes to prove their strength, they don’t walk away easily
Chimera or Horkos?
I’m Chimera, I believe that true strength isn’t something you just have, TRUE strength must be built upon, and drawn out with proper motivation
Gryphon’s herd of deer, and Astrea’s pack of wolves, THIS is the war, and Apollyon would cheer on Gryphon, because not only did Gryphon use her ideals and follow them, but he’d also use them for the people, he used her ideals to rally people and remove a tyrant, and Apollyon would definitely be proud

I use to think Holden’s journey to Gryphon was a bit stupid and nonsensical but this video has made me really reconsider it and Holden as a character in general. Great work!
That said, there is still something about his story that doesn’t quite sit with me and I can’t pinpoint what it is exactly. Might be because I think they went a bit too far with his literal journey across the world, or that the Lord Warden was somehow the ONLY person who took his betrayal of Apollyon seriously (and then straight-up disappeared out of nowhere when Holden would have needed his support - what a guy), or it might just be some reinforcement of the fact that the original factions seemingly mean squat to the writers now, which is saddening.
Although that might just all be a byproduct of my hate for the current story and what it introduced and retconned. I do not like it, at all. That being said, I’ll stick with this game until it dies (or pisses me off too much).
