      MJs Wizards years was about bringing all the old BBall fans back to the game so they could see Lebron, and hopefully he carries the torch. Jordan did this because he wanted a majority ownership stake in a franchise. The league agreed he could be an owner if he helps the league out. Yea Jordan wanted to win, but that was secondary. Jordan gives Lebron his popularity, cause Lebron still needed to be put over even after a 4 years major publicity campaign.

  • @josht1167
    @josht1167 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I feel like it’s inefficient scoring, not making teammates better and then giving up more points on the defensive end than you create on offense. The mix of those 3 creates an “empty stats” player. If you follow this checklist you can find players on bad teams that aren’t actually empty stats, just their team is awful.
    You’d have to do some film study though to figure this out about a player

    • @fortynights1513
      @fortynights1513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion it’s a product of being the best scorer on a team that didn’t really have anyone else who could score well, and these players aren’t ones who you’d build a team around because they don’t score efficiently, and teams where they were the best player didn’t win much.
      Some of them could be decent in a reduced role perhaps, but they aren’t number one options on successful teams in the league.
      A textbook example that’s perhaps even more inefficient than anyone you’ll see in this comment section would be Jamal Mashburn in 1996.
      He averaged 23.4 points per game on 37.9% shooting from the field for a 26 win Mavericks team. The team was good offensively, but horrid defensively, so he may not have been good in that regard in addition to inefficient scoring.
      That 37.9% is worse than every season of Allen Iverson’s career, almost all of Jerry Stackhouse’s prime, and both of MJ’s Wizards years and only two players who scored as much shot as inefficiently, and both were in the 50’s and 60’s (Joe Fulks and Dolph Schayes).
      So that might be the emptiest stats ever.

    The weird thing about Dillon Brooks is he has some of the best “On/Off” numbers of any role player starter in the NBA. And this isn’t just his on/off with the rest of the starting lineup, his numbers are still extremely impressive when Ja, JJJ and Steven Adams aren’t on the court. Kelly Tripuka: averaged over 22ppg for the first half dozen years in the NBA for Detroit. He got traded to Utah and the Pistons suddenly became fantastic. Utah was worse with Tripuka. Then got picked up by Charlotte in expansion, scoring went up to over 21ppg for a terrible team.
    Reggie Theus: The Godfather of empty stat players. Look at his stats. 20ppg, 7-8apg in his prime. His teams were AWFUL. For me empty stats is when a player has been in the league for several years and is clearly not developing anymore and they are more hurting their team by taking all the shots.
    Westbrook, Oubre, Nick Young, Josh Smith... Either you play winning basketball or you try to develop and grow the team. If you score 25 but you take all the shots away from your teammates - that's empty stats.

    Devin Booker was 100% empty stats. It means putting up numbers that don't translate to winning. Kevin Love was in the same boat. Its being able to score and do things that look great, but due to a lack of defensive scheme, or lack of ability to play around other greats - you just won't really be a winner. The last few years of Melo on the Knicks come to mind. Its easy to score 20+ if the offense is designed around you, but the ability to convert that to wins is the difference between empty and meaningful.

    I think there are 3 different things that can qualify you as having empty stats
    1. Playing on a terrible team and having great numbers year after year but your team never gets out of the bottom. No matter how bad your team is, after a few years you should be able to help your team improve even a little unless your numbers are just about yourself and don't actually help the team. Examples of this are Booker his first 5 years and Jerami Grant when he went to Detroit.
    2. Being a player on a loaded team and only getting numbers because all of the attention is going to your teammates.
    3. Being a player with extremely high usage but terrible efficiency as well as usually relying on free throws

    JP: 21-3-4 on 42% FG and 32% 3PT (8.0 3pt attempt/game) (50% eFG and 56% TS)
    What saved Jordan Poole is only his free throws, raising his True Shooting by a good amount.

      I find it impressive the dude can put up 20+ at his age while defenses are gameplaning for him and has the most gravity on a team.
      Don't know many players in history at his age that gets constantly doubled and has the defense entirely hedged towards his side when the ball is in his hands at the perimeter.
      He's definitely on track to be at least a star level player when he gains more experience and the team around him gets better.

    This is why people need to think about what the statistics say. I have little knowledge of basketball, and if you told me about a person who scores a lot of points but has a low TS percentage, has very low assists and has his team do worse when he's on the field, I could already see the mental image of someone whose three braincells are solely dedicated to getting the ball and throwing the ball at the hoop to his team's detriment. (His low TS percentage could actually be explained by this as well: he would be making shots even when it's a really bad idea.)

    Tired of jalen green disrespect. He has improved in rebounding and passing, he is on a team that is supposed to lose for wembenyama, and our point guard kpg doesn’t make good plays, and just plays iso ball. The whole offensive plan for rockets games is just iso ball and feed sengun in the post.

    The only downside (it’s a big one) with brooks is shot selection.
    As a grizzlies fan I’ll let you know brooks goes 100% effort all game long, guards the best player from the other team, doesn’t back down from anybody, and is great for the locker room. Would I trade him in a heartbeat for a better player? Of course. Is he annoying to watch sometimes? Painfully.
    But he is a winner. Also had massive games for us in the playoffs past couple of years vs Jazz and Warriors.

    I think Jordan Poole this season qualifies as an empty stats player this season. He has high PPG, but awful efficiency, 3.5 TOV/G, and a negative BPM. He also needs to work on his vision, as both steph and draymond have exited mid-game in the past ~month because he’d refuse to pass to them while wide open. He 100% was a positive impact during last year’s title run, but he’s making mistakes he wouldn’t have before.

  • @Rianme1ster

    Green's performance can be justified with just how bad the Rockets organization is right now, they have a coach that has little to no experience running a team as you can see it it their plays where its always an Isolation leading to a shot or a kick out. They also have no floor general and veteran players and lack of good role players, it's the same situation with Jabari Smith as he needs to create his own shot by either facing up or rebounding offensively.
