Season 7 has finally arrived! To start things off, I take a glimpse at possibly the most atrocious animated musical adaptation starring the 8th Wonder of the World himself: The Mighty Kong.

Oh, fun fact. Warner Brothers has owned the company Legendary Pictures for putting Kong in the new cinematic universe Monsterverse to put the ape for fighting the mighty King of the Monsters, Godzilla.

Don't worry, Hewy, it wasn't executive skullduggery, it was the misguided filmmakers that killed the beast.
The original 1933 film was a masterpiece. The 76 version was... erotic. I'll give it that. Pete Jackson's was long. Good but long. If they covered animated musicals on Mystery Science Theater 3000 this version would make a good candidate.
in the original scrap idea, they did have kong survive the fall and would later fight Frankenstein

If I were to remake or reanimate this Kong film, I would avoid the choices it one made.
I would keep the same characters, but not make them look like complete idiots. Removing the monkey sidekick.
Removing the musical parts.
Making the tone more mature. Animating the scenes closer to the original.
And have Kong actually die like in the original film and remakes.
(Except skull island since Kong lived)

I noticed something interesting during the song that Denham sings in the restaurant. The lyrics, “It’s got laughter, it’s got tears, mystery and fear,” are very similar to some of the lyrics of “It’s a Small World”; all they had to do was switch out the “mystery” part with “hopes”.

I watched The Mighty Kong, and it’s a stupid King Kong movie, but honestly, I’ve seen a lot worse (King of the Lost World).

It wouldn't be until 2017 when we got a more dignified take on the Skull Islanders in the form of the Iwi.
Anyone who thinks that King Kong Lives is the worst Kong movie has never seen this movie.
In 2018 they did a HD restorment of this film, WTF!!

I love the 1976 remake but it was the first one I saw. The original is better but the 76 has a bigger impact on me.
And as a kid I didn't hate the animated musical I was just confused. The only thing close to be being good in it is Carl Denham.
Christ, even the Hello Kitty version was much better then this. And that was just a parody in a kids show
Would you believe that this, along with King Kong Escapes were my earliest exposure to King Kong? But hey, being a fan of Toho, I'll take King Kong Escapes any day.

What did you think about Kong: Skull Island?
I love it. It’s not really a remake of King Kong, but it’s original and the story fits the theme of Monsterverse where it shows the relationship between the man and nature.

You know, I saw the Broadway King Kong show last year, and I can tell you that that was a far better King Kong story and King Kong musical than this thing.

If they wanted to call the _Venture_ something else, why not go the route of the novelization and call it the _Wanderer_?

Okay so I thought thought the Godzilla anime films were bad animated films for Godzilla but this movie makes those films good and making Kong look terrible

I enjoyed the 2005 remake.
The best Kong movie next to the original.
I think the 2005 King Kong is good, but in segments due to how long it is. I personally prefer Kong: Skull Island since it tries something different with the Eighth Wonder of the World and doesn't waste any time getting to the parts we wanna see.
You ever consider teaming up with The Nostalgia Critic? Because I think you and him could tear a few other animated atrocities I know of brand new orifices.

And from what I saw or this dreck, I can't say I blame you. Jesus, is this film a stinker.
I pity the Sherman Brothers for having to be the musical writers, especially with how bland the songs were.
There was a time in my live where the thought of working with the Nostalgia Critic would've been a dream come true... But now, the very thought of that condescending, intelligence insulting, employee abusing hack just makes me angry.
I still enjoy his work, but I do agree that he needs a knot jerked in his tail.
I had a feeling I’ve seen this review before ad that it wasn’t a positive one.
But I watched it again for Hewey and honestly he’s right , I’d rather watch an animated version of his and BigjackFilms idea of King Kong animated film,
I’d even watch an animated talk on the cancellled 1996 film over this film.
So many times someone tried to take advantage of the book being public domain so that they could make their own kong movie

Funnily enough there's an alternate ending in Peter Jackson's King Kong game where Kong survives the events in New York and is returned to Skull Island. But the island still ends up being swallowed by the rising water levels so Kong still dies. Sounds like a better ending than what this nonsense pulled. King Kong and musicals don't mix!
That's the video game, not a movie's alternate ending.

I don't think that ship is big enough or spacious enough to carry Kong all the way to New York. At least the 76 version gave the ship a big enough cage for him.

Talking of which, I watched the part in the Peter Jackson remake involving Kong protecting Ann from the V-rexes, and you were right! It was pretty intense!
I'm gonna say This movie is worse than dinotopia: quest for the ruby sunstone because well I ..... Actually like that movie but this here is just to insulting to exist if I ever need a good remake of King Kong I'm sticking to either Peter Jackson,s remake or Kong skull island.

so let me get this straight. This movie is a Kong film that was made to cash in on a Disney remake of a film that was technically a rip off of a kong film....... Kong ripped off a remake of a film that ripped off Kong.......... the world works in mysterious ways

@@Hewylewis not a rip off in the traditional sense I mean rip off in a more spiritual sense. At least a film that had inspiration from King Kong, even more so considering many people from Kong worked on the film as well as Robert Armstrong….. borderline playing the same character he did in Kong. I probably could’ve worded that better since “rip off” would seem more insulting to the film which wasn’t the intention by any means mind you.

You wanna know how the songs in this movie could have worked, aside from progressing the story forward and at least sounding nice to listen to? If they were written by Stephen Schwartz.
Look at the Prince of Egypt for example. That is one of the greatest animated musicals of all time, and yet, it's barely talked about. The songs in that film were dark, somber, and powerful, but sometimes charming and catchy to listen to. They helped tell the story for us and had a purpose. In fact, some songs from some mediocre musical out there could have been good if he wrote them. The stories would be the same, but the songs would have at least been nice to listen to and helped tell their stories forward.

@@Hewylewis I know. I just think Stephen Schwartz could have been a better option for the songs in that film instead of Tim Rice and Elton John. At least they improved their work on kids movies with The Road to El Dorado, whose music was also composed by Hans Zimmer, as opposed to John Powell.

I’ve never seen any one of the King Kong movies, despite the pop culture significance from the original film from 1933, but I can see why The Mighty Kong failed. And, I may get shot for this, but the writing in this movie makes the Sharon Miller era of Thomas the Tank Engine look butch.
