Oh BTW... LOVED that you mention the Maverick Theatre production. I had friends in that show and worked on a couple of other shows there too! I took some behind the scenes pics if you ever wanna check that out (Kong destroying the train was constantly filmed live in another area of the theatre).

This is a really solid episode Jack. I especially love the ending. Keep up the amazing work.
i have to be honest : this version looks more like an imposition of elements from the 1976 version onto the 1930's. the racial commentary, the version of skull island reduced to a fight with a giant snake, either intentionally or not, that's more like 1976 than 1933. now, why they didn't go for the 1976 version for a musical, is beyond me.
4:28 Thank God you mentioned How to Train Your Dragon: The Live Spectacular. Because I saw that show and I was blown away by it. And I've been eagerly awaiting for it's 2nd run in Australia. But ever since 2012, I have not heard of any resurgence of it. It is completely beyond me that it has not happened since, so that's why I'm sharing this bit of news with you to hopefully bring some light and resurgence to the project.

If they ever do make another King Kong adaptation (they most likely will) and decide on having a POC in the Ann Darrow role, one interesting way (I think anyways) to do so is by having an actress w/ vitiligo in the part. That way, she stands out amongst the natives (if even included) and even the white folk. Keeping in tradition of Ann being unique (physically anyways) from the usual sacrifice. But that’s just my idea anyways.

gotta say, while the show looks really cool, i honestly feel that no natives, no wall and no dinosaurs is a really big let down for me, honestly think it would have worked much better as a arena show, so we could have the dinosaurs and natives and to fit in the captured kong presentation in, have it be like the "Beast" script with kong being presented in a circus type tent setting
With Denham in the green vest, he more so reminds me of the Once-ler from The Lorax. Actually, if you think about it, they are similar characters in that they were people consumed by greed who later renounced their actions as being immoral. Now I'm starting to think less of the green vest as a coincidence.

I remember when i was a little kid when this was first announced here in Australia i remember i download a behind the scenes video podcast to my old ipod touch back in 2012 i was a king kong nut as ever since i was 4 when the peter jackson film was coming out i never saw it but i was aware of it i remember seeing tv ads news reports news paper articals

I do like the animatronic King Kong and he looks great and I like that we finally have a black Annie Dawn Darrow. But I would also like to see a white King Kong or a white and black King Kong. Give Annie some new super powers.
Hey Jack i gotta say this was the best episode of this year , i saw the Broadway show online once and it was outstanding , i admit i had some notes on it but it was still good , maybe in the near future they’ll add a jack driscoll character ( as a close friend) and maybe some recycled Dinosaur animatronics . And if your interested in a reviewing anything else Kong related ( I’m writing a book series that involves the 8th wonder of the world , and a few other cinema stars.)

I was really happy I got to see the musical! The music was fairly generic imo (I do like “Gotta Keep The Pressure Up”) BUT I give the cast major kudos, they managed to add their own charisma to the 90 year old story and the Kong puppet was an undeniably amazing sight to behold

Speaking of life imitating art. Having trouble finding a theatre for hold enough equipment for the Kong musical reminds me of my Fan Film Idea… keep that in mind, some new ideas are brewing

Personally i don't think i like the idea of having KING KONG be the only giant monster film to be ethereally be a 1930s "period piece". Since it seems like the writers are basically limiting themselves to even "dare" update the film and its characters.
Heck have the WB's MONSTERVERSE have somewhere a "Doctor" Ann Darrow working within that Cryptozoology SHIELD to oversee Kong. It doesn't have to be the same weird "love story" that 76 and 2005 films showed but just something not as tragic as that. Plus that KONG can easily survive gunfire compared to the past(but more in line the TOHO one)
Or Denham be a rouge Discovery Channel host going after Godzilla(STOP MAKING HIM THE VILLIAN!!!!). You know SOMETHING or ANYTHING NEW with the KONG cast
Also funny enough but it seems like general audiences also seem sick of the 30s setting as well since the 2005 film and THIS....thing both underperformed to out right flopped badly
Plus am getting sick of seeing Kong save Ann from a giant snake again and again, if this musical ever gets a reworking then thrown the T-REX FIGHT over doing that!!!
Hopefully we'll see the brighter things in the future of 2021

This musical sounds horrendous. It’s a complete bastardization of Kong’s story.
