NASCAR 08 on PS2 is kinda the Chaotic Neutral of NASCAR games, its hilariously bad but at the same time it has some really good moments in it
Honestly as bad as this game is I have a lot of fond memories with it playing it as a teenager.
All they had to do with this game was literally just reskin NASCAR 07, instead they somehow completely broke the physics and stripped the game to bare bones.

I can’t believe other people actually played this. I put so many hours into this game when I was in middle school.
The stupidity of there being two 21 cars as filler gains another layer when you remember that 2007 had almost 50 full-time teams. They left full-time cars from irl out while there's 2 of the same car out there. Idk if there were rights issues with some of the backmarker teams or what
It amused me doing a season on this game, because Greg Biffle wasn't allowed to race. Yet Jon Wood and Ken Schrader both ran.
It's weird that they did this when you consider that past games managed to handle drivers sharing cars by only running one of the two cars (most notably the KHI 33 two games prior).
IIRC this wasn't an issue in the 7th Gen versions, which makes this even more puzzling.
@@K9RacingAndStuff A better way to have Ken Schrader and Jon Wood in the field together would've been to put one of them in the 47 car, which was in an alliance with the Wood Brothers at the time. I think Schrader ran the 47 at Las Vegas and Wood DNQ'd it at Kansas

The rubberbanding is disgusting on 08 & 09 and the arcadey driving/tire wear can be a migraine at times. It's just so dang mediocre really. Burger King car is gorgeous, though.
The last half of this video is just childhood me, causing blowovers and parking sideways on the track , I actually managed to blow a motor once at Talladega while messing around with my brother because we were so far back the rubber band let me get up to like 211MPH and probably faster if I had more gear and wasn't blowing intake welds at 9,500RPM
A few weeks back I finally got all the chase plates for this game on PCSX2 and uh
its not really worth it lol since u gotta have the framelimiter disabled and choose the best vehicle out of all series (basically the walmart sponsored cars)
and have 100% racelength with limited damage and no yellow flags and make sure u qualify top 10 or better and then just cheese the hell out of each lap to get away from the pack
but there are a few tracks like Dockside for instance where u need to change the default setup in order to get a good starting position.
The really crappy part is the medallions, which are 1st place, pass 20 cars, lap 5 cars, and 1st place with no instant rewind. lapping 5 cars and passing 20 cars must be done cleanly and doesn't count when there are cars on pit road. Minimum of 4 races for each of the games tracks to complete that track's medallion tasks and some tracks must be completed to unlock a few others like speedway boulevard, phoenix infield, and daytona infield. The best way for some if not most tracks to get the lap 5 cars medallion is to just cause attrition and wrecks out there but for some you can just cut through the infield portions of the track to get away from the pack behind you and get to the rear of the pack. Some tracks are quick but Indy is really long, easily over 60 laps to do the lap 5 cars medallion at best due to it having next to no infield.
The one thing I absolutely LOVE about this game is the post race graph you can view on the race results page. That's what got me into my obsession with graphs as a child and it's an obsession I still carry with me to this day.
When I was growing up NASCAR 08 was the only racing game I had for the ps3, since I had nothing to compare it to I never knew it was bad (I was also just 8 years old) I had a blast!
I wish the crashes in the newer games where like they are in these older games.
NASCAR 08 I got with my PS2 for Christmas and was the first video game I played. Put hundreds of hours into 08. The career mode is meme worthy but actually decent u should give it a try.
I unironically love this game lol, it may not be perfect, but the new additions such as the ticker, 360 cam, HD graphics, something about it made me love it more. Still doesn't beat the classics now don't get me wrong, but this is such a goofy game I love it 😭

Actually it is pretty fun. This was basically just me screwing around with the PS2 version since most videos that I've seen out there of it are the PS3/360 version.

I love this game and you know that one time I had the whole field with dnf at Bristol except my car which I ended up winning the race as the lone car survivor
John wood and ken schrader same number 21 remind me of the 2020 talladega iracing pro invitational series when william byron and jeff gordon have the same number 24 with a different color number.

NASCAR 08 on PS2 is the only NASCAR game I'd played until Heat 4 so I have nothing to compare it to but I played it for hours and loved it when I was a kid, and the soundtrack is still an absolute banger
5:10 Hey tbf Mikey did get a top 10 at Charlotte in 2007 irl, so fair enough for that. Doesn’t excuse how in my last playthrough of my career Jon Wood won the fecking Cup championship.
My brothers and I grew up with Thunder 2003 and NASCAR 08 and even then we could tell how much worse 08 was. I only ever played it because it has the more modern drivers at the time.

Ps2 nascar 08 was my only nascar game I only played career mode I think in my best run I was a 4 time modified champ 2 time truck champion and 20 time nationwide champion bc I could never pass the time challenge to get into the cup series
Playing this game right now, one time at Talladega, there was a AI bot that refused to repair his damage and so we got a caution every lap because of the car's debris, 20 seconds after the green flag, from after the one pit stop to the end of the race. Gotta love NASCAR 08

have you ever been to a live race?
Unfortunately, no. I live in southeastern Ohio and really haven't been able to justify the travel expenses. Now that broadcasts are becoming worse there is a much bigger appeal to going though. Best I've ever been to is local fair events, but I intend on changing that.
