As a kid I always looked at the blacked out “Richard Petty 8 Champions” video tucked away in the menus. In my adolescent brain I imagined being the most incredible video ever made. Last year I said fuck it, and started grinding away at 8 championships to see the forbidden fruit that was the “8 championships” video. I scratched and clawed and finally won my 8th championship. The moment had come, and I was finally gonna see the video I had waited so long to see. ……It was a 3 second video of him congratulating me for winning 8 chips. I should have just fucking TH-camd it. 😂
You can win the Daytona 500 pretty easily in your first season by exploiting gear ratios and revving the shit out of the engine, gets you insane speed over the ai. The winning purse is such a nutty amount to get as a starting team
Still play it on emulation but dirt to Daytona is still the best Nascar console game of all time with thunder 04, chase 05, and thunder 04 being very close.
@@happyloaf *just bought thunder 04,05, & dirt to daytona at my local retro game store all for 30$, thank you for inspiring me to game on these awesome gems !!*
I won 8 championships in Legend difficulty with 36 race seasons and it took about 2 years at first. But I'm redoing it on my PC and I'm in S4 trying to win my second title.
I should update this comment, I was in S5 of the career mode on the PS2 emulator but they decided to add something called Hardware Download Rate or whatever the hell it's called and it completely broke the emulator and Thunder 03 had so many graphical errors and display errors so I had to swap to Dolphin Emulator and soon restarting it again.
Thymes Waystedd wins 7 Championships in a row and nobody bats an eye, but Jimmie Johnson wins 5 Championships in a row, and everyone loses their minds!
Almost half of those are from a single driver though… and as you can tell by him not even being in the challenge; they didn’t have a whole lot of hope for poor Jimmy Johnson. Tying both the greats for most championships with 7, including 5 in a row, 83 wins… I could go on… he is undoubtably the best of his era and I’d dare to say all time considering he’s won more than Earnhardt, more poles, and top 5’s and Petty’s whole career is mostly bullshit… yea he’s credited with 200 wins but that’s like saying the Bears are the best football team because they played against what essentially amounts to middle schoolers for half their existence… and honestly Earnhardt can be considered kinda the same way. I think it’s far more difficult to consistently win than it ever has been. Hendricks also had Jeff Gordon during his hay-day who was one of the best of his time (having third most wins of all time and 4 championships), plus Mark Martin, Casey Kahne, and Terry Labonte who were each great in their own right… Hendrick’s team has always been one to beat but directly after this game came out they just dominated.
This game single-handedly made me a NASCAR fan. I then started watching all the available races on TH-cam, and I was shocked when I saw the 1996 Ricky Craven wreck, and decided, he'd be my driver. When I got to the 01 Old Dominion 500, I was so happy, and wven more so with the 03 Dodge Dealers 400. Was a shame he stopped racing, but I've kinda had a falling out with the sport as of late due to it mostly being on cable, which I can't afford. Not to mention, the rule changes in 2014 which made the sport a joke.
I clicked on this video by accident. And I have discovered few new things. 1. You are entertaining. Subbed. 2. This game is probably something I should have heard about because its SO DETAILED in terms of features it’s ridiculous for its time, maybe, I can’t say for sure.
This was the first game I ever had on my gamecube when I was like 5 years old. I was absolutely terrible at it from what I recall but it sparked my passion for simracing, it's amazing to see how well it holds up by today's standards. Great video!!
This video reminds me of my reverse championship I did. I would run the pace car and turn cautions off and cause demo derbies. Last car surviving was the “winner” of the race Ran a whole season that way and manually tracked the points under the WC format
I wish they could remaster this game as is...this game was peak NASCAR Console gaming. Sure the graphics weren't great but all the in game content compared to today was insane.
I understand the sentiment you have with this game but realistically, there won't be a remaster cuz EA doesn't have the NASCAR license. Heck, I wish that EA could remaster NFS Carbon but I know deep down inside it won't happen😔
This video has now got me set on doing this on Dolphin, thanks man in advance for the hours of my life I’m not getting back. Great video though, really good quality for such a small channel
This video is a gem, I ran across this for some reason, and subscribed right away! This was my first real racing game and my brothers and I always talked about playing it again. Great content, keep up the great work!
Man you have incredible fate when it comes to screwing over Jeff Gordon lmao, made me laugh everytime I saw it happen and it happened way too many times
for all tracks, set your car up for as low of front springs as the car will go without bouncing and set the rear springs to 100. for all tracks except sonoma, the short tracks and new hampshire, set downforce low as it'll go. put tires at 15psi everywhere but daytona and dega, where you want it at 30. adjust wedge as needed to get the handling right. congrats on getting pole in most races even in the rookie season and finishing real well most/all races. this works on all the ea nascar games for ps2/xbox/gamecube, in fact it's even more broken in later entries.
I absolutely fucking love the intro to this video 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yup, that's Nascar Thunder in a nutshell LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Can't forget running guys down into the barrels at Martinsville
Nice video man. I know playing with the gear ratios on legend difficulty can make life a lot easier, even in career mode. 30 years old and first time I've seen that lightning challenge myself 😂
i don't know why but these older racing games are so much better than modern stuff. I have a really old PS1 EA World Superbike game that still just holds my interest far more than anythng recent. Graphics these days are amazing but when u sit down & play modern stuff it's just soulless
Finished my 1st season with the same exact settings, and finished 5 points behind Newman in ROTY, and I'd say I had a really really good car at most tracks, but pit road is a thing.
I use to think the 31st lightning challenge would be the 2001 daytona 500 for Michael waltrip. 10 year old me was wild mate
As a Jeff Gordon fan, this man’s hatred for Jeff Gordon is incredibly comedic
lol
People hate winners lol
Bruh I became a jeff Gordon fan because my dad hated him so much. Have no clue why other than he was dale sr's rival
He is almost always over powered in the EA games so it’s easy to get mad and hate him lol
He was annoying and fast in nascar games

>Rear Tire Carrier Sneezes
>Entire Pit Crew Fired
The fact that Jimmie Johnson wasn’t included is absolutely gold. The irony of it all is well earned 😂
Wow I can’t believe nascar didn’t add safer barriers or change the winston name until 2012. Crazy stuff
Rick Hendrick: "I don't think we'll ever get there"
Also Rick Hendrick: (Gets a combined 11 Championships in 2013 and 269 wins in 2021.)
At the time of writing this, Hendrick won his 299th win at the 2023 Southern 500.
@@bwbuske And the 300th win is near.
@@JustGenius2001 And has happened.
@@Roggie249 Still, Byron should've won the 2023 Cup Series Championship. Plainey is bland and dull to be a Champion.

The irony of Atlanta being his worst track but being sponsored by Georgia Power is pretty funny
I put hundreds of hours into this game during long Texas summers as a kid. This was hilarious to watch. Loved it.
*just got this game at my local game store for 5$ new, man this game is timeless, way to much fun to be had, can most definitley recommend this gem.*

You forgot Ketchup Mayo,Mustard,Relish,Gravy etc. There was a lot more sauces
When he said Todd Bodine probably retired for the trucks I thought I heard Todd Bodine probably retired for the drugs.
Biffle probably did too. At least that is what I want to believe.

Gordon inconvenienced you once and then blew 3 straight motors.😂
Hendrick has like 300 wins and 15 championships and in 2002 he’s like “ petty you’re god I be peasant “ 😭😭
Almost half of those are from a single driver though… and as you can tell by him not even being in the challenge; they didn’t have a whole lot of hope for poor Jimmy Johnson.

I used Dale Earnhardt Sr to win his 8th championship in order to unlock the 31st challenge
Is that doable?
Cant believe more people dont talk about Thymes Waystedd. Most people only know him for his short run as a commentator on Fox
My exes name was Marina, her common sense was like a dingy, slow and rusty😂😂😂
I've never watched NASCAR in my life but I can't keep my eyes off this. You're like, the ideal commentator for racing games. LUV IT MAYNE.
This video reminds me of my reverse championship I did. I would run the pace car and turn cautions off and cause demo derbies. Last car surviving was the “winner” of the race

This popped up on my feed. Man, I LOVED these games as a kid. 2002-2005 was the golden era to me. Great video!

bro your channel is so criminally underrated, keep it up :)
this games physics and damage models are somehow still better than any nascar game in the last decade
This was the funniest thing I’ve watched on TH-cam in a long time…I was rolling throughout. You’ve got yourself a new sub!
Rick said he didn’t think he’d ever get to 270 something wins and 10 championships. He was WAAYYYY OFFF LOL!
I got the pole based on nothing but skill alone obviously. That make me laugh pretty hard. You got a sub from just because of that haha.
Man you have incredible fate when it comes to screwing over Jeff Gordon lmao, made me laugh everytime I saw it happen and it happened way too many times
Lol Eli Gold retired to slide back in college girls’ DMs
This speedrun was amazing!
Went to radio commentator.
I appreciate you doing this so that I never have to.
Accidentally destroyed , yes that's it. Something broke.
This is the first time I've ever seen this challenge. My game would always freeze when I selected it.
Awesome vid btw
Excellent video man just love this game in general and respect to the grind
Thymes Waystedd 😂 Brilliant.
This was a really good video!
This was very entertaining to watch, you've earned a sub from me bud!
i hope this comes off as a compliment; you've got the presence of someone with a much bigger audience. wouldn't be surprised if that's in your future
Incredible video, I enjoyed this. This is an awkward comment. Not as awkward as that cutscene at the end with Petty though.
Yeah, I definitely gave up doing this as a kid lol. Also love the idea of a 100 year old man doing all this lol

This game had like 3 whole songs on it! I love Deep Purple!
I mean Steppenwolf
I had no idea this existed
15:52 a car into the fence 😮
22:58 lmao
"But i got the upper hand" 😂 gold
The limp in collective lmfao. I love that
By far the best nascar game ever made
How do you keep pit road from screwing you. I just started 05 for the xbox og. I had to buy a new controller and the brooks adapter.
I never played Nascar 2003 but I did play Nascar 2006 and both games play way better than any modern Nascar game (Thanks to you motorsport games!)
Nice video man. I know playing with the gear ratios on legend difficulty can make life a lot easier, even in career mode. 30 years old and first time I've seen that lightning challenge myself 😂

This game still looks solid in 2023
you gotta play thunder 04 and do some lightning challenges
This pure gold 😂
The real Sauce Boss
It’s possible to win the Daytona 500 and the championship as a rookie on legend. 36 race season. 5% race length w/pit stops
Career mode was goated.

video so good I picked up a copy of thunder '03 to play on my xbox
it's pretty fun so far but damn do i SUCK ass at road courses lmao
