    At last !! A group of fire fighters who don't hang around but simply put water on the fire!! Guess what - No major discussion groups, no delays in hitching up the lines! Just done as it should be. The fire is extinguished in double quick time. Appreciate that it is not a complex and large fire but the principals are the same. Everybody seemed to know what their task was and quickly and efficiently went about it saving adjoining properties from being involved. What a breath of fresh air guysl Keep up this good work. You did good Jay, got there just in time to get everyone rolling up.
    Must always be a bit frustrating when an RA is first on scene, you can gear up in your SCBA and turnout but you can't get in there to tackle the flame.
    Love how you got all the units swinging in, and some were breaking off a few blocks up to go around. What I really liked is how you then focused on the scene, getting them drawing the hoses and such.

      Firefighters really don’t care about how close you get. So long as you don’t interfere with what they are doing. PD will ask you to move sometimes but only if you look like you in the way. Buffs are practically first responders in LA. They are accepted as scene personnel. Plus we love looking at the videos afterwards.

      @@Conrailfan2596 a lot of departments will offer “lateral” hiring periodically... that is basically they are hiring people that are already trained and working likely with another department. However LAFD and LaCo DO NOT take laterals, all of they’re members started from their academy and went up from there. You will usually find smaller departments will offer lateral positions more than big departments, because it is a way to get trained personnel without having to pay for their training/academy etc.

We were dispatched to a 2-vehicle MVA, injuries/entrapment/fluids/airbags deployed unknown...I took a hard left off the main drag onto a side street. Access to water road. I take a hard right, slowing right down, but not to a stop. He didn't like that, or loved it and realized he didn't have the balls to copy me. So he says "you couldn't have seen a car coming thru the trees on your left" to which I told him he's right, but I looked before my view got blocked, and we were good, and I hope he enjoyed me being his tour guide !!! lol

      And almost all their tillers are paired with an accompanying pumper as a Light Force (6 man crew for the two apparatus running as a single company...gives one company full sized tiller Ladder and full sized pumper that can deal with any type of call vs a Quint which sacrafices ladder length or pump capacity, hose amount, etc). Pumper is always a 200 series i.e. Engine 57 is independent company, Truck 57 and Engine 257 are Light Force 57, Light Force+Engine is Task Force 57. A bit confusing at first, but not too bad once you get it lol

      It’s because this area is extremely dry, allowing any fire to grow at all can lead to catastrophe in a residential area.
      The structures ignite and spread way to fast to take chances, an entire block can become fully involved in minutes and that has happened more often than people realize. It’s a response for several homes, never just one.

    Maybe you’ve done this before and the vid is out there. I’d like to see how they drain and fold/roll their hoses up after their done. Also, how in the hell do they keep track of whose hose is who’s. Obviously, if it’s hooked up to their truck its theirs, but on those big jobs, 3, 4, 5 alarm fires the hoses are laid out for miles and like 5 to 10 hoses deep in layers. I suppose it’s simple after you’ve done for years, but it looks complicated to me. I’d also just like to give a shout out to all first responders for saving our lives and property while risking theirs. Excellent cam work. Great post.

      every single piece of equipment has the units callsign on it (i.e.; Truck 66’s blower would have a “T-66” sticker or paint) so that nothing should get lost or mixed up. and if it does, it’s easy to return to the correct company. as for the hose, they lay it out across the street, bleed it out, and roll it up. once they’re back in quarters, they clean it, hang it to dry, and grab fresh hose. hope that helps, thanks for watching.

    I found this situation when I watched a lot of related videos.
    United States / Western countries:
    There is no water tank in the fire truck, it takes long time to assemble the hose on the spot. But the water pressure is very strong and the fire can be controlled very quickly when complete assembly.
    Asia (example: Malaysia / Singapore / Japan):
    Almost all firetrucks have water tanks inside, which can extinguish the fire directly while installing/find the hose.
    But using a small water pipe, if the fire become too strong, need takes a long time and more water pipes to control the fire.

    • @WLAs_Finest3x
      @WLAs_Finest3x 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You fail to realize that we here out west have a different, very effective method of fighting fire. Our fire engines carry a 500 gallon water tank, with almost a mile of supply line and hand lines to fight fire. When a structure fire is announced, a ladder truck and a fire engine are always dispatched together, called a "light force". Another fire engine from the same fire station dispatched on the same call is called a TASK FORCE. The reason why a ladder truck and a fire engine are separate and have different duties is because it saves wear and tear on the equipment and it last longer. A ladder truck company and an engine company has different functions and tasks at a fire, but they work together toward a common goal, which is to extinguish fire, preserve life and property. The firefighters on that aerial ladder truck perform roof ventilation techniques, shut off utilities, to pave the way for the engine company to perform an interior attack. Our fire dept here in L.A. trains for speed of deployment, efficiency, etc. Our firefighters are trained for quick deployment, they're on the scene of the incident within the first 5 minutes the call is made to 9-1-1.

    LAFD must go through hundreds of saw blades. Seems like every video I see there are bars on every door and window. Business or residential. Here in Houston, we have plenty, but not like LA. I spent weeks in the hospital with burns and I don’t want ANYTHING in my way if I need to get out. Nothing I own is worth that much.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is really crazy how almost every place in LA has bars on the doors and windows I guess they have a extremely high burglary rate and that is the only way they are able to protect their house or business. And the bars must be the biggest reason why cost of living is so high there because it takes firefighters so long to get to people during a fire.

    • @josephastier7421
      @josephastier7421 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The window bars in my bedrooms all have a release pin with a nice big D-ring. Pull the pin and the bars swing away on a hinge. You can have them out of the way in seconds.

    • @enid0mom
      @enid0mom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Joseph Astier I assume you test them frequently to make sure they are not corroded or rusted. Seconds are the difference in life and death in a fire. You must have some really valuable stuff in your house. And alarm system and/or a big dog are better at preventing burglaries. Like I said. I spent 30 days in the hospital with burns and months more healing. That was over 50 years ago and I still have visible scars. Apparently lots of people feel safer for some reason with insanely ugly bars on their windows and doors. I think convicted criminals should be behind bars, not homeowners. I was recently in the market for a new house. If it had bars, it was a deal breaker. Nothing else mattered after that. If the neighbors are that bad, I don’t want to live there.

    • @josephastier7421
      @josephastier7421 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Every few years someone like a bank appraiser or a new building inspector will notice that the bedroom windows are barred, and want to see a test of the release. They always like it. The bars came with the house, I just left them installed. This thread got me thinking about them, so I just tested them. They work perfectly.

      Vertical ventilation is primarily used to let smoke and superheated gasses exit the structure which lessens the chance of flashover, and makes the interior a more ‘survivable’ space should casualties be inside and a search being conducted. This structure had already become fully involved and had flashed over, no point risking lives putting someone on the roof to ventilate it with no real advantage to be gained. The temps inside the structure would be unsurvivable prior to fire crews arriving, so sadly anyone in there would already have perished.

    One can only love the US approach: if you have them, use them. The fire trucks are almost as high as the house on fire, but let’s add a turntable ladder to the intervention because ‘procedure’.
    Seriously: respect for the LAFD. The whole video shows professionalism and concentration.

    Maybe all of us experienced firefighters have it all wrong. Will all those that think this was a poor job knocking down a possible arson please educate us on exactly what and how it could be done better. Given the fact that anything can be improved and the better one is the less improvement is needed. We can't tell from the video what every fireman's assignments are, backup, rescue, etc. Incident Command awaits input.

    I'm not a firefighter so maybe one can answer a question. Why not just roll up next to that house and blast it immediately with the deck gun? Seemed like an easy shot to take?

    • @FB1ResponseVideos
      @FB1ResponseVideos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that would be called “defensive mode” which this fire definitely did not cause for...you’ll see defensive mode used on greater alarm fires/fires that are too dangerous to send human life into. thanks for watching!

    • @josephastier7421
      @josephastier7421 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And this is what I find confusing. When the trucks arrive, if an interior attack is called for the men must lay hoses, make connections to pumper trucks and hydrants, don their breathing gear, and more. This is not an instantaneous process - even with good training it's still a minute or two.
      Why not use those early minutes to blast it with the deck gun while this is happening, using the truck internal tank water supply? Can't you get that thing going within seconds of arrival?

    • @bondservantministriesinc.672
      @bondservantministriesinc.672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Useing a deck gun on a structure this size has two major draw backs. #1 you could easily push the fire into unseen, unburned area. And #2 you could spred the fire with that much power. You'll see one FF with a streight streem in the front. This is dubed hitting it hard from the yard. This will cool the fire and eliminate the need for vert venting. There is no life in danger that they know of but that is always a possibility with homeless squating unbeknownst to anyone. Using a deck would turn the thermal integrity and scorch to death anyone inside.

    • @bondservantministriesinc.672
      @bondservantministriesinc.672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention as the young man said that is reserved for defensive measures.

    • @jamesscott2894
      @jamesscott2894 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk about LAFD, but our deck guns are 500gpm...with a 750 gallon tank, you'll be out of water in a minute and a half. Then you don't have any water for hand lines...which can move around and get better angles, vs one big deck gun that isn't gonna be able to hit more than wherever its parked. Now we can, and will use it in that initial min before stretching handlines, but ultimately you need the handlines on a structure not the deck gun to extinguish. I know LAFD uses 1.75" attack line, we're using 1.5" with 125gpm nozzles, 4 lines is as much water as the deck gun, and looked like they had way more than that.

    Aussie firefighter here. first off, damn good job. But, can someone please tell me...Why do you guys don your facemasks in the hot zone? That would mean that all other work you're doing around the structure, the particulates would contaminate the inside of the mask prior to donning. Just doesn't make sense to me, different procedures, etc.
