- Venice, Los Angeles - January 31, 2024 - A significant joint operation was undertaken by the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. on Venice Boulevard in Venice, Los Angeles, targeting a homeless encampment. Three recreational vehicles (RVs) and one motorcycle were towed from the area. Prior to the towing, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. drained the sewage tanks of the RVs, with an Environmental Officer from the City of Los Angeles overseeing the operation.
The operation resulted in multiple arrests, following an investigation that suggested potential non-compliance with regulations and outstanding legal matters. This cleanup initiative forms part of the broader city strategy to address homelessness and promote public health and sanitation.
Subsequent to the cleanup, a section of Venice Boulevard was closed for an upcoming construction project. Barricades were installed, and a notice from the Public Works - Bureau of Engineering was displayed, detailing the construction work involving the demolition of curb ramps, sidewalks, and curbs, as well as the installation of new light poles and underground work. The closure is anticipated to deter the return of RVs to this area, a subject of ongoing concern owing to the consistent presence and dwelling of RVs, a situation that has elicited numerous complaints from neighboring residents. The removal of the RVs garnered a positive reaction, evidenced by cheers and applause from the local community.
The cleanup operation saw the collaboration of two waste management units: the Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. The teams, donned in yellow and orange vests, were focused on segregating hazardous from non-hazardous waste, ensuring a comprehensive cleaning process. The use of protective gear by the team underscored the city's commitment to worker safety.
Councilwoman Traci Park's Housing Coordinator played a crucial role in the coordination between various city departments, including the homeless encampment task force. Los Angeles Police Officers were present to ensure the safety and compliance of all parties involved, particularly the homeless community, focusing on maintaining cleanliness, hygiene standards, and adherence to safety guidelines.

We’ve all lost sympathy for these homeless drug addicts
Yes cause they don't want to help themselves
@@leftctrlgaming,. They'll be back.
Their liberal policies encourage this.
They reward this.
The only reason they hauled the RVs away was because they wanted to put in a bike lane for the greenies.
It damn sure wasnt because it was a posted school zone. If it has been, the RVs would have been gone months or years ago.
Is this what you call crime??? Drug addicts need rehab not jail.
We are really paying taxes to put cops in the street to harass poor people living in the street with no jobs instead of stopping real crimes like murder rape theft and Drug trafficking.🙄

I was homeless with 2 small girls in the 70's, my mindset was to get away from an abusive husband - now ex - but my goal was never to STAY homeless, no license so no car, never had a job or a place of my own, took a while but I did it and now, remarried 25 yrs strong, I got g-children and a great grandson, none of it wasn't handed to me and I can't begin to count how many times the rug got pull out from under me but I dug in for the long haul, to those still struggling, it may take a while but your ship WILL come in, maybe later rather than sooner but it will, the Universe isn't done with you and it's got a plan, sending all of you blessings and have a great rest of your day.

FANTASTIS job. How are the unregistered RV's able to stay for so long anyway?? Why are they exempt from immediately being towed like cars??
I am in the bay area and can you tell you this - when you report an abandoned car to the city, the first question they ask is if the car appears to be lived in. If someone is living in it, they will not even come out to tag it. Likely the same in LA. These RV's probably had a court order to remove them which takes months. California politics at its finest.
I should have read your comment more closely. I had the exact same reaction when I saw these vehicles.
@@its-all-good that makes me wonder if community members can hire private lawyers to get requests filed with the court quicker.
Maybe its their primary residence.???? Who knows? If a working man gets stopped without tags, you are towed., If you have any outstanding tickets you cant get insurance.
@@DadeMurphie Good thought. I am not certain but it seems as this may be an option. A problem is, and, as with this clean-up seen here, they will be replaced by another groups of junked RV's or cars in a week or so if not sooner. Community members would have to pay up again and again when we already have laws and codes on the books to prevent this from happening. 6 - 10 years ago, if someone parked a car and it was reported abandoned it would be tagged and towed given 48 hours if not moved. The people causing this chaos have more rights than those they are impacting. What a mess.

a shame this mess was created in the first place, finally realizing the problem will only get worse by coddling
they should all be sent to an island in the south pacific where they can live however they want with a tent and do whatever drugs they want.. and if they cant get their drugs then they will have to rehab...water and food flown over to them- it will be a live version of Lord of the Flies
Can't imagine the cost involved to remove raw sewage, trash and tow?
Should arrest the owners of all those RVs. It's the same owner that is parking them in the streets and charging these people a low rent.
Would that owner have registered them though?
very true, the RV will be taken to an impound yard and held but no one will claim them. Then they go up for auction and the same guy buys them back for cheap, parks them on the street and rent them out over and over and over again. So I am told?

Here in S Oregon, the woods are infested with non driveable RVs that have 3 layers of blue tarp for roofing. Most have cali plates. The area surrounding them looks like a landfill and smells like a pig farm. When they get too bad to live in, they (and the trash) are abandoned and they find anther RV somewhere to restart the cycle.

Do we get that end of Venice blvd bike lane back after over 5 years?
Homeless drug addicts definitely don't like POWER WASHERS.
Maybe if treatment and solutions to poverty would help instead of unbelievable housing costs and brutality to the poor and unrestrained greed which we face now.
Have you ever pressure washed a homeless drug addict? Do you use a degreaser, or just standard detergent?
Adding more useless bike lanes. I was waiting for the end shot when the new tenants pull up after the cleanup crew leaves lol.
I live in a medium-sized city where lanes of roads were removed and turned into "bike-only" lanes. It's nothing but a huge expensive WASTE that does nothing to help the actual traffic. Oppose this anywhere you can, this is just like that batch of make-work projects that got rammed through right at the beginning of Obama's first term. Nothing but a total waste of money that we don't have.
They didn't add any bike lanes, they just made sure their new signs weren't blocking the existing bike lane. Of all the bike lanes that one also makes the most sense and is used frequently.
I was thinking of parking my van there to keep it clean but not with the heart ache.

that is fine if that is what they want- to live in a tent- but just dont trash or hoard. we need 'nomad camps' in each city in the outskirts where there are rules and reg, have showers and porta potties and simple food. and more enforcement of not allowing setup tent wherever. have a recycle plant build next to these camps where they can be put to work- the able bodied ones.

Beautiful Officer Contreras in the house! She’s too cool…and cute. Can you ask her to say hi to all her fans on here? We need a closeup. Those nasty sewage containers in the RVs probably haven’t been emptied ever. That is nuclear level hazardous waste at this point.
They like to just empty them into storm drains on the street. It's a major contributor to the unsafe swimming conditions at the beach which they don't like to advertise. They are letting tourists and locals swim in fentanyl poo water. Other places would have massive signs and would shutdown their beaches with the same quality.
@@DadeMurphie oh geez. That is so disgusting. I remember one time in Venice seeing how brown the water was while our friend was jumping around in it. Then we noticed a big sewer drainage pipe tight by there. It was nasty. Knowing that a lot of it is that toxic waste from RVs makes it even worse.

If I were a tow truck operator, I wouldn’t be laying on the roadway without a protective Barrier… no telling what been “deposited on that pavement!
Here in the San Fernando Valley residents have to deal with the same thing. Police becoming to clear all the RVs and before you know it not even a month goes by and the homeless RVs be back parked on the same streets again. NeverEnding cycle.
And there is plenty of people ' recommending ' the van life. What starts as an adventure , if not careful , can end up like those in the video.
Been homeless for 13 years. Only had my van for 3 years. If it wasn't for my van I would not be able to hold down a job or work on my art. It's sad we live on a mining planet where you have to make $200 a day to get bye. So don't hate because your mommy paid for everything and you never had to work for anything.
Wow, I can't believe that the cops are actually doing their job!
When you spend enough time fighting against these RVs....you quickly become aware, educated that the police hands are tied most often by not really the mayor but the local council person. IE: Mike Bonin, who's policies put in action years ago are still destructive to our community. There is litigation against the city as well by a RV owner. The city could be influenced by homeless advocates as well. But it's mostly Bonin's fault when looking at Venice. So it's more than saying just cops. Trust me, the cops are on the our side, not these drug lab operators, drug sellers, drug takers, pimps, hookers, thieves, etc who use RVS to support their criminal activity against our community.
Elliot you sound stupid. Really willfully ignorant.
Did you camper get towed or what?
IT IS ABOUT TIME. Law and Order FINALLY REINSTATED.
what he says is true. I had a camp across the street from me, every negative thing you have heard about homeless, was true. Cant say much more than that. A nightmare. no excuse for them to ruin other people's areas. figure it out elsewhere.

Wow, so sad this man has a heart n mouth like that. No need to call them names.
The residents of SM and LA City voted in the progressive, this is the result.

It’s about time… we had the same issues with the unhoused parking in the church parking lot and red zones. Leaving so much 💩💩 … law enforcement verified that the RVs, vans, trucks and cars were stolen, several guys were arrested for stolen goods including pewpews. The church was a Vietnamese catholic perish and many were scared being threatened with violent druggies. The problem is many tow companies have no room for the RV. So I’m glad it’s happening. In Silicon Valley Mountain View, ca had blocks and blocks of illegal parking, it took them months to remove and tow them. Also, San Jose had a homeless encampment called the “Jungle” where over 300 ppl lived on a 75 acre lot. It’s was polluting near creeks affecting wildlife and run offs into the San Fran bay. Hazmat found dead bodies in tents from OD and stabbings that were not reported. Sadly, Happy Hollow a children’s amazement park lost a lot of money because families were scared to go there. Research the “Jungle” it was crazy

The cops are actually doing their jobs, impressive.
IDK… I’m not blind to the fact that with homelessness there’s also an increase of drugs, trash and unsanitary conditions. But it blows my mind that we have so many resources devoted towards these cleanups (in many states), yet we have thousands of homeless crossing our borders every day.
