Got a little ranty in this one and forgot to mention some things:
-Crafter relics are somehow more engaging than the combat relics (lmao)
-Alliance Raid series has been absolutely phenomenal. (It still suffers from not being very replayable though)
-I didn't mention expert roulette but I think having only 2 dungeons in rotation is a terrible idea. A roulette should have more replayability than this.
-Hildibrand has been fantastic throughout post endwalker but I eluded to mention it as it doesn't solve the lack of replayable content.
-I know some people will argue "just go chase some obscure title that takes a jillion hours to get" but this isn't a solution at all to the lack of NEW replayable content.
-I was pretty harsh on island sanctuary in this video but I plan to make a dedicated video about it in the future. I think the content has a lot of potential to be something very good if they continue to evolve it.

"-I didn't mention expert roulette but I think having only 2 dungeons in rotation is a terrible idea. A roulette should have more replayability than this."
This is actually one of my bigger problems with endwalker patches. I really feel 2 dungeons per patch instead of 1 would make the max level dungeon content so much less monotonous.

I suspect duty support is the reason why we can't have more dungeons. It stopped in Shadowbringers and they said it's very significant amount of work (for not much if you ask me) so maybe they don't have the resources to create 1.5 per patch anymore like they did in Stormblood.
My question though would be why does every patch dungeon have to be linked to the MSQ? Stormblood had 2 dungeons related to the trial story, and patch 4.3 had no MSQ dungeon at all.

on the topic of Expert Roullete there is a very easy fix they can do and they don't even have to change the amount of tomestones or number of roulletes.
All they need to do is replace level 90 dungeons roulette with a Variant Dungeon roulette. Then have ALL the 90 dungeons be a part of expert roulette.
It would solve so many problems, and the most the team would have to do is code how one would put a variant dungeon route in a roullete.

"-I know some people will argue "just go chase some obscure title that takes a jillion hours to get" but this isn't a solution at all to the lack of NEW replayable content."
Except, they totally added EW long-grinds. Every new PvP season gets a battlepass that takes about 20-25 hours to finish. The Variant Dungeons take a similar amount of time to get everything off the vendor when those come out. Eureka Orthos Aetherpool Grips. And that's not including the other long grinds that come with every expansion: 1000 S Ranks, 20 trips to the bottom of the two Treasure Dungeons, New Big Fish to catch in EW zones, Triple Triad Cards for the Collections, Crafting/Gathering Relics.
In addition you get Island Sanctuary, which is a more slow and methodical time sink. A check in once a week kinda grind, once you get proper settled in.

FINALLY someone else talks about how stupid that 450 tome weekly cap is. I am the kind of player that likes to play various jobs and having to gear them all with this fucking stupid limit is really annoying. It's like the game is actively wanting me not to play it. Makes no sense.
That housing bit too, 100% agree. I can understand losing your house if you dont play for a long time, BUT 30 DAYS? That is not that long to warrant losing your house.
I love this game, it's one of my favorites of all time. But these little things that pisses me off starts to adds up over time. Again, i'm glad someone else is voicing these criticisms too.

    • @DuskEalain

I loathe the tome cap for similar reasons. "Oh but it's there so people don't just zerg to maxed out gear!" AND? If people wanna gear up their main in a week by grinding Expert Roulette _LET THEM._ The cap is an arbitrary time lock that punishes people who want to play more than one job. The 30 day thing also applies to FCs, I was absent for a little over a month because of work and a friend had to give me my FC back because the game auto-demoted me from leader. The community yells from the mountains to "just play another game!" "just take a break!" etc. but some of the more evergreen long-term progression style content like housing (buying one in the first place, decorating, etc.), FC (ranks, allegiance, etc.), etc. actively punish you for taking more than 30 days away from the game.
I'm right there with you, I love FFXIV, I'm a massive fan of MMORPGs in general, but there's so many _little_ things the game does both in gameplay and in narrative that frustrates me to no end.

The frustrating thing about the Manderville relic is that they already did find middle ground, the Bozja relics. The entire thing can be done outside of the zone and mostly passively with alliance raid roulettes, 60/70 dungeons, the same FATEs the HW relics need so you can farm both together and deep dungeons, or, if you do like Bozja, you can do the relic there instead. In that respect, the Manderville relic is just an inferior version of what came before, keeping only the passive grind option but none of the unique content that is attached to it, it’s a shame as well, because if criterion/variant was attached to the relic whilst also keeping the tome option (but at minimum like double or triple the cost) then people who don’t wanna farm have their slower option and people who do wanna actively farm their relics have a reason to do the new interesting content, making it sustainable.

    • @bigbluepurple
      @bigbluepurple  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Enderlinkpawnu ปีที่แล้ว

@@bigbluepurple heck, the Heavensward relics were pretty good, and I would argue more similar to the Manderville relics now. like 75% of the HW relic grind is passive because you can buy the item with tomes. But even then there are only three items that are *required* to buy with tomes. Almost every other item you'd need has tomes as an option, but has other options that have you doing other things: Grand Company seals, Crafter/Gatherer scripts, daily and weekly quests, ect. And even on top of that, some of the steps required you to actually play content, such as the HW fates step, the light farming, and the handful of dungeons and trials you need to do throughout the grind.
I prefer the SHB weapon grind personally, but iirc they equated the manderville grind to be more similar to the ARR/HW model of grind (which is also a lie because neither of those grinds are 100% just tome farms)

I'll start this off by saying I am a 1.0 vet and have been playing FFXIV off and on for a decade. I have finished almost every ultimate, every raid tier, blah blah blah nobody cares but just table setting. I also love this game and I think it is the best theme park mmo currently on the market, I still play everyday even if it is just to do dailies and market board stuff. That being said, EW has been a really weird expansion content wise. I feel like this has been a long time coming since late SB, but EW really accelerated it. I am hoping it is just the XVI launch and post lock down dev issues, but we will see. I think the biggest issue is on a segment in this game that has been neglected for a long time and that is midcore players. Not in the raiding MC sense, but the people who maybe don't want to engage with raids as much but still want to play and do content that isn't mind numbingly easy. No ffxiv expansion has been great to them, but EW might be the worst. There really is no long term middle ground for them in EW.

the lack of grinding is so bad this expansion that i got into gw2 once again and started raiding there to get legendary gear there, which is way much more of a grind than even the eureka relics. but it's much more than grinding for a cosmetic, you're grinding for convenience, you can change the stats of your gear out of combat and it's bound to your account si all your characters can use it. i really wish we had more stuff to do in ff so that we wouldn't have to go to other games to find something to do :c

I am in the exact same boat as you are. Started playing two years ago, put a lot of time in the game, see the issues the older players have bit don't have that problem myself because my backlog is bigger, ect. Specifically, I am a relic grind enjoyer. I have all the ARR, HW, and SHB relics, as well as the skybuilders tools. They're done. The Manderville relics I typically finish in like two weeks, and I don't even go super hard on them and finish them in two days like some people. I just do all my roulettes every day and I am just done in like two weeks. Which for a relic grind is fucking abysmal. However, that doesn't mean I am out of things to do. I want to solo Eureka Orthos at some point. I want some ultimate clears, I have progged them before and I am so close to that uwu clear I can taste it. There are still some loose ends in Bozja I want to clean up with the field notes and the duels. I still have the Stormblood relics in Eureka left to complete, only got the initial one done, so I am going back to the older zones to get the other ones (I am in Pagos with this, I probably easily got another 200-300 hours of just Eureka ahead of me). I haven't touched BLU raiding. I am missing most of the rewards from the Gold Saucer because I have been stockpiling mgp passively since I started playing the game to get all the mounts at the same time (I am closing in on that, around 1m mgp out of the 9m necessary). Once the new jobs get announced (probably next month) out I'll probably want to start planning glamor for them and grinding whatever is necessary for that. I want the World Class Troller title because its literally the best title in the game. Thats at least a couple months. And on top of that I still have the splendorous tools (my current goal atm, halfway done with the crafters being caught up ahead of 6.51 adding the last steps. My gatherers are hella slacking because it takes so long). I haven't even TOUCHED the resplendent crafter tools, and I barely scratched the surface with the Firmament, ect. I got a lot of crafting to do).
Not to mention the one piece of content I have neglected to do pretty much at all. Hunts. I have killed maybe three S ranks. Ever. There is so much stuff I don't have because that is just not a part of the game I have interacted with much at all.

As someone in a similar position but a couple months "older" in the game, I felt largely the same about having "plenty of content." The reason I, too, understand the direness of Endwalker's content draught despite that is that even I am running out of content now, before the post 6.5 wasteland even begins. I've completed Zadnor thrice over (even getting the like do-500-blahs achievements), and am approaching having more Eureka weapons than not, so I've even completely exhausted the relic forays. Hell, my static is VERY close to completing all old savage content in the game on top of the EW tiers - and that's removing accessories to heavily nerf our damage/HP (which I don't say to brag, but indicating it's taking us months longer to clear than it would a normal group just doing minilevel, and we're still almost done). The only thing left for us will be finishing every ultimate.
On the one hand, it sucked a lot to want to play FF14 a lot but have literally (tm) nothing to do. On the bright side, I did indeed play other games, so it saved me from spending the rest of my life playing FF14 :V

The content discussion is interesting, because my experience so far has been that I don't have enough time for it all. Your comments about a lack of grindy content are valid though, so I guess I made my own grinds? idk. These days I'm trying to find time to even play other games.
A good part of it is that I suck and my savage static also sucks, so content is naturally lengthened. I'm also milking ultimates for all their worth content-wise. I cleared DSR over 3-4 months by no-lifing it in PF. Then I took my savage static through it over the course of 5-6 months. Now I'm helping friends with a c42 while starting the cycle over again with TOP.
Meanwhile each savage tier takes several months to blind prog. I haven't even finished a criterion yet. Been doing TEA once a week since February and we finally got the clear last week.
Looking back on it though, a lot of it is due to ulti PF taking _forever_. And when you are in PF you can't do anything else of note (aside from crafting).

I own a house and has been playing since Heavensward. I like to think my sub fee is just a mandatory battle pass on free to play game I'd bought anyway but I don't need to do anything. Even though I've been playing for 8 years, I still have things to do, like haven't finished eureka and I don't even do any relics pre-EW, and any savage raidings. because I'm really, really slow, so I like I don't get punished for taking a break once in a while. I still enjoying the game ofc, and playing casually while leveling all classes and glamouring them is usually what I'm aiming. and that being said, I think I can see many creators have a problem with EW patches and I'm speaking my thought as a casual player who plays whenever I have the time and I want to.
I love Island Sanctuary and I still do it to pass some time, tho I agree it needs more content to do and more customization to make it worthwhile. and I also love Variant Dungeon, and I agree the problem is it's replayability and lackluster rewards. it could have been an alternative way to gear a class, but alas. adding more roguelike element to Variant would be cool!
tome cap is in dire need to be updated because we have too many jobs now to gear and it will be added more for DT later and if it's still 450, I'll question why, we basically double the number of jobs since ARR but the tome still capped at 450, and with the game allows us to have all classes on single character it's make sense to make gear alt class friendly. also, 7 weeks for tome weapon is just sucked. that means in a patch cycle we only can barely get 3 tome weapons only, again, we have so many classes now. I think 1000 per week is good enough cap imo, and 4 weeks for tome weapons like after next tier released. I think after new tier released they should only make it 1 or 2 swords needed for weapon catchup, and remove tome cap when it's nearing new patch release.
Relic grind is w/e because I never do any of them before, so it's nice for me to have a cool shiny weapon easily (there's already ultimate weapons for people who like to showoff anyway). :D and some of them imo the best looking of all past relics.
I don't have complain for Alliance Raids. it's fantastic. weekly lockout is make sense but I think it wouldn't hurt to have a special spammable currency whenever we completed the raid and trade them the armor we want, kinda like extreme raid currency.

I disagree with the take about the field exploration zones and think that tying relic grind to Eureka and Bozja/Zadnor was a big mistake because few years later you can barely find people doing this content, and it's not soloable because of its design. Delubrum PF parties on Chaos are as rare as Christmas. Field expiration zones are empty now (except maybe Anemos and Bozja). I think the HW relic grind was the best. Simple, yet entertaining. And you don't have to look for those few people that are doing the relic too (except for A9S, but there are other means to get anima light, and you can solo it unsynced now). Everyone runs these dungeons and trials in roulettes already. Sure, EW relic grind may be too easy and boring, but it's the best for people that just wanna do their dailies, run TOP for a few hours, and then call it a day. It could've been more engaging, but I'm absolutely fine with it the way it is.

I just think EW has had multiple changes all at once that all contribute to boredom and a feeling of nothing to do even though, technically, there is still a lot to do, just no incentive to do any of it. First the 2 minute meta and job changes homogenized all jobs in a huge way all at once making playing different jobs feel less like it changes things up. Then the relics being tomestones was a HUGE mistake, both because the relics do not feel special at all but they usually used relics to give people a reason to run content they normally would not touch. If they tied it to Eureka, Bozja, Variant or deep dungeons, or even just old dungeons, trials and raids that no one ever does anymore, it would not feel like there is nothing to do. They could even let you double up relic grinds with Eureka/resistance weapons and reinvigorate those grinds for people that didn't get to complete those relics yet by letting you grind in those zones for the new relics.
Even the moogle event, why put moogle tomes in the current raid tier? Everyone is literally just running the same content that was already the most popular for being the newest, why would you not put the tomestones in content no one does anymore? Or again, variant/criterion or the new deep dungeon? They added new replayable content but there is no reason to run it after a day or 2 after doing each path once, and deep dungeons have too many needless restrictions(should let you continue without a premade party if you want) and no incentive to do it. Hell, blue mage even could be tied to relics and moogle tomes as an optional grind. And blue mage still forcing premade groups, I don't understand why there's no blue mage roulette or separate tab in DF to just let people get matched with randoms if they want.
The big issue with EW for me is that, just no incentive to do anything for no reason, 2 minute meta was a mistake and all the jobs feel way too similar so it all combines together to create constant boredom after you do the patch MSQ. And I've been saying for years we need to call out the cash shop, it's getting out of hand and once the genie is out of the bottle, it's not going back in and now look. People tried to defend that but literally we have loads of content with no rewards to strive for but the cash shop has so much stuff added that should have been rewards for content, this is not a F2P game.

The Comedy cap would feel so much better if it was a bit higher (550-600?), but the prices were the same as poetic items instead of significantly higher.
Additionally, I think content would feel like it has more longevity if the process of gearing up your character and jobs felt like there was more to it. Substats are so simplistic, with crit being king, determination/DH being near equal, and speed stats being garbage for 80% of jobs. Main stats are so much better that you almost never take something lower iLvl with better itemization. More flexibility and more sources of fairly equal gear would make grinding dungeons/raids/etc feel MUCH better.

Recently I had a thought- Island sanctuary feels like it should have been group content. It reminds me of the FC workshop and would be so much less annoying if you could spread the grind among like 4 or 8 other players and would incentivize people to socialize and use the island for more than just furniture and materia generation. It would be better if at launch we could have grouped up and shared an island similarly to how FCs were formed but obviously asking people to forfeit their individual islands is impossible at this point. Not sure how they are going to make it worth doing post-EW without continuous updates.

Good video, and food for thought. Being a long time player(1.0 Vet), these cracks have been showing since Stormblood maybe even a little before that a bit(albeit Stormblood was the damn near perfect mixture of grindy & casual content, the job balance was pretty good unless you were a MCH, MNK, or WHM lol) and it's been slowly but surely heading in this direction I do not care for one bit. To avoid repeating my own thoughts entirely for the millionth time and being witch-hunted over it lol I hope 7.0 to start with brings in content to invite us players back to the game(Besides the Obvious that is a given). Shock & wow us, make us fall in-love with the game all over again. Bring the MMO back to this RPG. Give it a proper shake up lol I don't want forced dailies, but it would be awesome if there was something to keep us busy throughout the duration of an expansion, and then expanded upon throughout the current expansion and the following ones(not made irrelevant or forgotten about like they do with a lot of other stuff). It's not even burnout I feel at this point, but more disappointed in the game I love being designed in a way it actively pushes you away, but not too far if ya own a house or do raid on the mid-to-hardcore range. Change will never happen until more of these types of discussions happen with-in the community then proper feedback given through the proper channels. But like ya said, a lot of this community hates critical thinking or criticism of the product they believe is the most perfect thing ever. Treating your words as if you've insulted their grannie and unalived their dog. Those people imo should learn their place, or at least be aware as the bare minimium and quit shutting down everything with: "Well Yosh-P said it's okay to p-blah-blah-blah..." That is NOT what he meant saying that, and those taking it out of context & weaponizing it are only exacerbating the problem. Anyways, sorry for the essay. I too am a fellow enjoyer of the game, and hope to see it do better. Ultimates alone have proven this Dev team are no joke, and to quote Arthars: "It's a shame to see the beast caged" when it comes to everything else.

Endwalker has been really disappointing with rewards for content and content I completely agree, all the cool items are either in island sanct or in the mog station and there is no reason to do any of the content. The gear progression for a game that lets you play all the classes on one character sucks and for players that are playing this game for years there isnt anything to do anymore. only reason to not unsub is cause i got a large house which is bs that itll evict me anyways.

i would've been fine with not having exploration content this expansion if they made the relic "grind" literally anything more than what it currently is. while i enjoy exploration content, i can understand why some people don't like it. however, if they tied the relic steps to any of the new content (e.g deep dungeon or v/c dungeons) then they would've had way more longevity. i always thought the point of relic weapons was that it was a grind for casuals to take their time on, yet i see people complaining about "fomo" with relics. you can literally still complete several-expansion-old relics. it's not like during ShB, if you didn't play for a month, you'd miss out on bozja content forever. ill admit there were relic steps that were incredibly tedious at times, but thats why there needs to be a balance (that we were so close to having in bozja, only for it to be shafted entirely).

They really should have added another Expeditionary Zone like Eureka or Bozja or longterm crafting content like the Firmarment.
The fact that they cut all of that and only gave us criterion dungeons as a replacement is my biggest complaint about Endwalker.
People can complain all they want that the Expedition zones were too much grind, or that they didnt like Eureka. But its a fact that that longterm expansion content the community could all grind together in was part of what kept Stormblood and Shadowbringers alive even during patch drought all the way up until the launch of Endwalker.
And the addition of the deep dungeon is no excuse because we got Eureka's numerous different zones, systems, bosses, fates, rewards, mounts, ect ontop of a deep dungeon and all the other typical patch content in Stormblood. There is no way that doing criterion dungeons consumed so many resources that the devs were unable to do another Bozja style world exploration zone.

Hard disagree. The need to gear every class is your issue. Pick a main or 2 to gear and mess around with the rest. The tome cap is your "carrot on a stick" to keep playing, now should the cap be increased? I think so, however, its still your chase to gear every class. The housing system is limited on every data server, you mad an easy non argument because your reason makes 0 sense and even said yourself "i dont care about the limitation" so it's pure ignorance to try and argue that. The relic weapon is more casual friendly and i like that. I'm sure others do too. Not every relic weapon should require you to do months worth of grinding. Not everything needs hoops for you to jump through to get, especially since this is a casual friendly game. It sounds like you want OSRS type of grinding in this game. Most people cant afford to play this game 24/7. If you're bored, its ok to leave and come back later, or make a new character. It's not that deep.

The core issue with FFXIV is that the progression is too vertical. Everything is capped very fast, it's impossible to get ahead in any form whatsoever. Gw2 has the same problem, but different. There is nothing in the game to grind that has meaningful progression outside of the relics and even they are just cosmetic. You will never be stronger than another player because everyone has the same exact crafted gear every raidtier. Farming BIS is completly pointless if youre not planning to do ultimates on patch. This game has a trillion cosmetic rewards but next to zero powerlevel rewards.
I personally dont care about cosmetics unless its an ultimate weapon. What id like is that i can BECAUSE i play better and more have a throughput advantage over other players. But FFXIV equalizes everyone and only lets you chase useless cosmetics that i already have more of than i can even use...

I think the game mostly suffers from predictability as well as having to share its resources, including devs and the director, with FF16.
the latter one had its issues too and felt somewhat rushed. I just think they put too much work on their succesful A-team.
Besides that, things are just too predictable. The core formula is never broken. There is always raid tier patches that remain locked and current for too long, and there is odd numbered patches with the foreseeable alliance raid and other off content that has been cut both in quality and quantity this expansion. If you play any longer than the people that jumped on the game with the pre-Endwalker wave and have done a bunch of it, there is just none to do.

All I can think about more than anything is just that Critereon and Variant Dungeons just completely suck. Variant had the potential to be a rogue-like and a challenge but instead they are just more story dungeon themeparks to do once or twelve times if you want a mount. And Critereon, all we got is a boss gauntlet. I'd love to say the lack of rewards is all that made them not interesting (they would make them at least worth playing through), but I think the idea of even more Extreme/Savage bosses wasn't what we envisioned when we were told about harder dungeons, nor was it what xiv needed more of. Field Operations like Eureka and Bozja were interesting, and hopefully you can dive into that content before 7.0 and share your thoughts on them. They weren't a be all and end all to kill time but yes, they beat islands and variants and criteron in endwalker combined and are likely still far more active than them.

What do I think about Endwalker?
The jobs balancing is poor, job design is becoming increasingly simplified and poor,
the expert roulette has been in a coma since there are no more dungeons in brutal mode,
the level 90 dungeons are boring and far too easy, with almost no punishing mechanics, and you can take three AOEs without dying.
There's no engaging content, and it's the first expansion where I hardly play the game.
I really miss the difficulty and the amount of PvE content that Stormblood had.
I'm seriously considering quitting the game if Dawntrail doesn't address this lack of content and rewards, and if their extremely simplified vision of jobs continues.
"It's been 8 years since I started playing, and at this point, we're not even talking about casualization anymore.
The game has become completely brainless for all casual content.
I'm not talking about the savage and ultimate content because those are for a niche community, and the clear rate is generally quite low when compared to the entire high-level community of the game.
(By the way, I did some of that content back in the day, but such content requires a significant time commitment and having a roster can be quite limiting and hinders a flexible schedule).
Also, the game no longer has any content of normal difficulty, like we used to have, for example, in the 24-man raids like Ivalice or Holminster when they were first released.
Now, the content is too easy, and all the old content is so easily crushed that we end up skipping 60% of boss mechanics, and it's such a waste.
Even the Endsinger apparently doesn't make it to the end anymore because it gets destroyed so quickly.

Sure ppl will say Eureka this, Bozja that, but the truth of the matter is that when those were current content ppl still had that complaint, why? Because if you didn't care for that content there wasn't much else to do on repeat. This has been a constant in the game design to the point I don't think is a mistake at all, it's how the game has been envisioned since the start and it's most likely not changing, well it hasn't in 10 years by now. Most content is kept alive not by the virtue of their rewards but because ppl that liked what was proposed as content itself kept it alive and running. If it was for rewards alone DRS and BA would've died in SB, not considering DD who was kept alive thanks to the solo community which managed to hype it up enough for a rebirth this expansion much to everyone dismay once the content came.

I don't really understand these takes. There's a ton of grindable content out there. There's a ton of grindable content that was added : A PvP Battlepass *every season*, A new Ocean Fishing Route, A new Deep Dungeon with weapons to assemble, A vendor with a ton of unique Variant Dungeon Rewards to collect (x2) , Island Sanctuary Levels and achievement strings, as well as the usual "Long Grinds" that come with the expansions: S Rank Hunts, Big Fish, Treasure Dungeons, ect.
These perpetually online streamers complaining that the relic grind, of all things, is what's driving down engagement is absolutely absurd to me. When none of them have: a) Diadem's Pterodon, b) Big Fish Title, c) A perfect racing Chocobo, d) S Rank mounts, e) Mentor Roulette Mount, f) or even a full collection of any one expansion's relic weapons.
Relic Weapons are an *introduction* to grinding in FFXIV. They're easy. The fact that you can earn progress towards them passively while doing other 90 content shouldn't be viewed as a negative thing. As someone who has every relic in the game (yes. All of them. Even Physeos step for Eureka weapons), I much *much* prefer getting relic progress from just playing the game, vs. running content that I get no other benefit from. 250 clears of Tam Tara Deepcroft wasn't fun. Spending a week farming Fates in Yanxia wasn't fun. Sitting around in PF hours a day for *weeks and weeks* putting together DR speedruns *WAS NOT FUN*.

  • @markup6394
    @markup6394 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Dont get me wrong, the criticisms are valid, but I also think people are seriously overreacting. This is the game that from experiance has a lul a couple weeks after every patch. Thats nothing new and the devs themselves tell you, to take a break if we dont have anything to do. Now, personally I dont think thats a good thing... I mean, its good not to have FOMO in your game or force players to logg in daily... but to actively tell them to go away isnt a wise thing to do either... especially if the content actively supports this philosophy. Maybe EW is so thin regarding long-living content due to FF16, but we can hardly accept this as an apology: if that was the case, than that means its really, really bad planning on the dev's side.
So, lets pretend everything is as the devs wanted. Why is the relic not grindy at all (coming from someone who already finished all of them a month ago)? I would guess its because the Hildibrand quests are tied to them: forcing players to do all those quests, starting with ARR, even if they dont like them, is a hard sell to anybody. I can imagine the devs didnt want to put another grind into people's faces after that... Not the best concept, they could've changed the dialog for people familiar with Hildi's adventures and those that arent. Its... and I dont dare to say it but, its lazy. And very unusual for FF14: usually every NPC and their grandmother have a different dialog option depending on the content you have done...
MSQ, too: we didnt get the seperate Trial story, as we did with HW, SB and ShB, and... to be honest, I'm not a fan of the current post EW story at all: too predictable, too random, and the Void deserves at least its own expansion. I dont know why the devs turned away from their Bread-and-butter method of wrapping up an expansion with x.1 to x.3 patches (for EW that could've been restoring the lands after the Final Days - this is happening now, too, but we are not involved, it just kinda happens behind the screens which is imo very disappointing: I want to know the state of the land that I helped to save) and x.4 and x.5 hinting at the new adventure. They wanted to shake things up but if you start to think on it... a lot of things feel washed out: MSQ and trial story getting meshed together, no new exploration zone, no Firmament... and the only content involves 4man dungeons, and the 2 Ultimates, of course, which is also instanced content for a small group. Hell, I'm grinding out a HW relic just to keep myself busy between raiding. Otherwise... I dont know, I might, for the first time in well over three years, cancel my sub :( As someone who played WoW for 14 years almost without breaks... I could do other content, sure, but I really dont care for Deep Dungeon, I still hate Eureka (sorry...), I already finished all ShB relics and I dont like Bozja and Zadnor enough to go there without proper reason. I'm not on RPing or Clubbing either... I'm hunting for glams, I cap my weekly tomes... Yeah... If you think about it, even keeping in mind what I said earlier, that content droughts are normal and that people are just taking a break... its all very thin... butter-stretched-over-too-much-bread kind of thin.
I wont start about Island Sanctuary (wasted multi-player potential :( ) or Criterion (no rewads: intrinsic motivation isnt enough) or daily- and weekly loot-lockouts and tome-caps (which have no justification to be there after a month or two). Its just sad... People will come back, either for 6.5 or 7.0, but it shouldnt feel like the like stretch as it does.

Yes, but it's because it's the case, and precisely, it's good that many people are talking about it, whether it's on forums or in videos, because the developers don't listen to us and remain closed in a kind of narrow-minded vision of the game they have and are not willing to let go of, despite the numerous critiques, no matter how constructive they may be.
In fact, the game no longer evolves after 10 years; it deteriorates, becomes more braindead in unimaginable ways.
The game takes on the vision that Naoki Yoshida had of the future of the MMORPG, which he mentioned in an interview in May 2019, comparing the game's system to the systems of other types of games where you don't necessarily have to invest your time, and he applies all these systems, which are completely obsolete, to FFXIV, which is an MMORPG and not a single-player game or a multiplayer game like Fortnite or Overwatch...
      ""Jeux Online interview english version.
: What do you think about the future of the MMORPG genre as whole? The 1st gen and 2nd gen MMORPG audiences have gotten older and the newer generation doesn’t seem that interested in MMOs. So, where do you think the future of MMO lies?
Naoki Yoshida: First and foremost, with Final Fantasy XIV, we do believe that this game is at the maybe tail-end of the 2nd generation of MMORPGs. I believe that World of Warcraft was sort of the start of that 2nd generation. Having that kind of strong content-driven MMOs defined the MMORPGs of that generation. With Final Fantasy XIV, I believe this is the newest game within that generation of MMORPGs, but I also feel that we are coming to the very late part of that 2nd generation. So, I feel that there probably won’t be another MMO that is similar to what has already come out.
Even if Final Fantasy XIV were to release further expansions, maybe 3 or 4 more expansions, we don’t believe that FFXIV would evolve into the 3rd generation of MMORPGs.
We would just continue to pursue and perfect what we have so that we aim to become the ultimate MMORPG within our current generation.
In terms of the 3rd generation of MMORPGs, I believe that we would need to have something design that is fundamentally different.
I think there is a very important element, a keyword almost. The younger generation is one thing, but even with those existing gamers that have become older, there is really not a difference between those two parties. Both types of people have become very busy and there are so many different forms of entertainment, a lot of smart devices being out and available and it is more difficult to carve the time to sit down and do content. Previously, we wouldn’t have to worry about it because there weren’t so much distractions that would take us away, we had the time to sit down and do this sort of time-consuming content. But nowadays, when you start playing a game, you might get an email, you might get a text message, friends might want you to go see the latest movie or go out for a drink ; there are so many different things and so much materialistic objects that can distract you. There are all vying for your time.
You may be aware that worldwide we’ve seen games of the MOBA genre or Battle Royale games becoming very popular, games that people can jump in whenever they want, have that sort of instant gratification, and then quit whenever they want. I think that’s a very attractive set-up for the modern gamer or any gamer in this current time basically. And we feel that for MMOs of the next generation, it is important that we capitalize on that. It is something that’s a key element.
We feel that those are very important elements to incorporate if we were to bring a game that moves us into the next generation of the genre. But if we were to divulge more details, I think we would be giving hints to our competitors on our company’s ideas so I think I’m gonna stop right there.
""Games like Fortnite and Overwatch are vying for dedicated, online audiences like MMOs do - as a traditional MMO creator how does that make you feel?
Naoki Yoshida: This is happening because the video game industry continuously evolves. Just taking this example, traditional JRPGs are based on turn-based games. and especially for the youth, they feel that it's quite outdated, they don't really understand.. Talking about the younger generation, someone up to the age of 25, because prior to the time they were born, there was relatively high-spec hardware for their gaming experiences - their character is rendered very realistically and they can actually control the characters directly - by pressing one button, the character will punch the enemies or fire the gun...
That's why we don't feel those types of games are a threat because the basic game is designed completely differently. Because the audience that's playing Overwatch and Fortnite are probably in their 20s, they're a younger audience. If that younger audience becomes our main audience for FF14 or our current MMORPG, then we may need to cater to that new audience and create the excitement that they want from a game. We feel that FF14 doesn't really need to play that role. It should be the next generation of MMOs. But if we want to make an MMO which doesn't require targeting, that would be really difficult. We'd probably need to make some drastic changes to the game where there are text chats, but people are using voice chat and you can choose your play style, you can quit anything, you can come back any time... That kind of generation and time will definitely come, but personally speaking it looks very difficult so I don't want to do it!""

Oh no, here comes the Mariko, up and ready to write a shit large paragraph, oh nooooooo
*cracks fingers* what? you thought I would of written *clear throat* PFFF, I'm typing, not talking >:3c
    Okay for real now, hiiii
I cannot deny that EW content as been lacking, cause even as an ACHIEVEMENT HUNTER, which if anyone ever openned their achievement list, there's a christ ton, uhhh I'm done with EW achievements. Or the vast majority at least. I'm only missing the main battle ones. Like the current savage tier (Yet cleared p12s... and the 2 newer ultimate).
for a resume of myself, i've been playing for 3years. I got all relics done (Except Eureka ones) and STILL spend MOST of my time in ARR content, cause achivements :)
I could rent for way too long on how achievement hunters have at all time way too much to go for. For me a content drought is almost good, cause I can go grind back older content, but it also proves and shows that there's nothing to do still in EW. I max my Island achievements, got all crafting in EW done, most battle content, all quests. The only thing missing is the Treasure maps achievements, cause RNG.
Most of my time has been put into Deep Dungeons and doing a lot, but A LOT, SO MUCH crafting and gathering. If ya look at your Crafting and gathering achievements list, the behemot of stuff, ya I'm working on all those :)
Heck if check Lalachievements I'm #66 for most achivements on Hyperion :D and #29 for most mounts
Still super far comapre to Global, but when compare for my server, I'm still proud to say that I've done unique content stuff that some might of just never touched and I've yet to do any of those "insane title grind"
[Check out my character on Lalachievements @Mariko Sakari :3c]
To go on what you said more on the video, the saddest part of EW is the lack of replayability and also the lack of multiplayer stuff to run and IMO, the biggest miss step being Criterion.
I truly believe, if Criterion was done in different way it could of hit so much better.
What if Criterion has its own roulette, criterion roulette. You'll say Criterion is way too hard for duty finder and it is! Variant is for pure lore, story , casual fun. Criterion should be a lil challenging, but not too bad and meanwhile make the Savage version what we already have has criterion (With single rez PLS, no rez is so mean...) and make the stats higher requiring the savage itlv.
Current Criterion is LOCK behind gear check, which makes it harder for most people to try it! Savage version I think its fine, but the differences between normal Criterion and Savage Criterion are WAY TOO SMALL. Savage is simply asking for a PERFECT RUN, thats it D: With no rewards!.
Normal Criterion should be easier, it should be part of a relic step and maybe even have its own roulette!
Savage criterion should have 1 rez the each people can do, ONCE THE WHOLE RUN, stats are fine as of now, garante a mount for anyone clearing the savage with a title and maybe for replayability can have something that helps for savage bis, like an augment. It would a different weekly reward, not a required! Like my team need to clear p11s 5 more times for loot, but if me and friends clear some savage criterion, oh maybe then the savage team might need just 3 more clears/weeks to never need to run it again!
If may go over what you comment also:
Alliance raids always kinda be like that :(
-ye somehow crafting relics were just fun???
but ye thats not even most of it. But maybe I shouldn't write a whole ass novel in TH-cam comment. I had a pizza in the oven and it had to the time to fully cook while writing this xD
But ye in short, by far the biggest failure of EW I would say is the usage of Criterion (Which is very sad cause the criterion gameplay is INCREDEBLY refreshing and fun!!!) and the lack of a exploration zone.
(ahah clever person could notice I didn't say relics, but honestly, if criterion or exploration be there, relic prob be different. As it is, I'm still okay/grey area about the relic non-farm)
    thats all for me!
Still waiting for that Deep Dungeon video(s) >:3

Go play something else if you’re bored, the game will be there when you want to come back, and will have a bunch more content. A whole bunch of other great games are out that don’t cap you or limit you.
…and when your personal house frees up I’ll be waiting to pounce on it.

@@markup6394 Well its not valid its subjective! What this does is just put new players off and current players jump on the band waggon to leave because "a content creator said the games dying"
