Great video Tom. I'll never be able to afford one bar a lottery win but so informative. Karl Shaw absolutely...lots of weave...and also now a load of scratches on the rear spoiler. I remember looking at a DBS Volante in a dealership with 7 miles on the clock. Covered in swirls courtesy of the car wash chap. No clue about paint care...
@@edwardfrench9925 yeah, you know more about paint care than the guy educating you on the F40. (Who has ownership of not 1 but 3 prime examples no less.) Those leather-bound booklets are not going to cause any paint issue whatsoever.
@@DavidDavid-jb1cy Just because he knows about cars doesn't mean he knows or cares about paint quality/protection or how to care for such - a car's paint can be scratched from merely running your finger over it let alone chucking leather bound books around - what I/we are saying is I'd be rather more careful about the paint on a car costing hundreds of thousands less than an F40
Legit video, worth watching for S.Moss story alone. Wealth of knowledge of course, with touch of snobbery towards US spec cars. While those might be somewhat inferior to Euro models in many aspects, they hold their charm in other areas: lack of ugly fog lights on rear bumper, better integration of air vents etc. Fuel tanks are whole separate topic.

Tom have you ever encountered an F40 with the carbon fiber (hub) steering wheel? I believe this may have been a pre production feature but have never seen one in the flesh as it were only in old factory videos.
Great vid Tom. You should really mention however that the control arms on a number of F40's were replaced due to a recall and so as they are replacement parts they do not have the country code on them anymore. I know mine had it changed....
Great content Tom. Classy, sophisticated, and excellent presentation. The cars are spectacular and true works of mechanial art. Keep them coming. Your videos are enthusiast based and well received here in NY. All the best.
I'm another dreamer but it would be my first purchase if my lottery numbers came up, till then I have to make do with my scale model that's been on display everywhere I've lived since 1988. I do find it sad that these cars are seen as a commodity, an investment like buying shares or something when I'm sure enzo and all the designers that created the f40 thought of it as a machine to be driven and enjoyed and if a 30 year old car has 1500 miles on it it certainly hasn't been enjoyed very often. It seems like a waste to me.
I know what you mean but you can still drive under a thousand miles per year and still enjoy it. I mean it would be purely recreational driving so you could enjoy it, run it, and yet still keep the mileage low. Best case would be to have 2 of them, one to drive however much you want and one to simply keep it going at 100 miles per year.
Personally like the lexan sliding windows more, correct me if i'm wrong but these also have other interior doorcards. Also Nick Mason's F40 used to have a rare rear window with three rows of slats instead of the more regular two. Nice video learned some new info. Thanks
Amazing vid - outstanding knowledge - no surprise to me but shows you are a world leader in these vehicles. Guess you might be regretting the squeaky shoes tho ;)
Hi tom don't know if you read these, but other people could benefit.. You've done a fantastic job of course. As a speech therapist try not to say um..as much just pause. Then carry on.
les vitres lexan coulissantes n'ont jamais été prévues sur la série; Materazzi les avait utilisées sur l'Evoluzione et les versions LM uniquement. Si je n'ai pas oublié.
I like that you said, without actually saying, that Ferrari has a known history of rolling back odometers to make their cars more valuable. Wouldn't want to ACTUALLY say that or they'd sue you and black list you. As they also have a known history of that too.
Many thanks Tom, very interesting new information about my favorite Ferrari although I am a Ferrari collector and tifoso for more than 35 years. Keep on going with your great work and you said it right that experience you cannot learn. Take care. 🇮🇹🏎
Great video Tom, can’t thank you enough for sharing your fantastic knowledge of these cars. I’m sure your credibility has shot through the roof and will give you many new customers. I look forward to meeting you one day when I’m in the market for a classic Ferrari. Regards Rob
I had a G reg back in day. Bought it at 5 yrs old with 8000km and put a further 9000 on it in 18 months 😱 so I’ve more seat time than your average! Thanks for the nostalgia! Raw, exhilarating and breathtaking all at once. The turbos kick in like warp factor 9. I ran out of guts at approximately 185mph. The only time I ever purchased a reg no was F40 N**. It’s still a halo car for Ferrari. If I’m honest I didn’t really appreciate its significance. The seat cloth wears horribly! Regards
Thomas. Sir. Pardon me, but you must realize that we all wish to know the details about why you were put-off buying the "1,100. KM" F40 that you spoke of. Take your time and put out another 30min + video about the F40 topic to explain it to us. Thank you in advance for the content.
Thank you for your kindness, very informative. The F40 is one if the greatest car. But, which one should i buy if i want to drive it at least 3000km a year in your opinion?
The ones that have the least mileage & right history will be worth the most but when you start putting alot of mileage on them the value will come a little but not that much they do hold there values pretty good if not go up all the time aslong as they have the right history upto date. Price wise mid range f40 values would probably suite your requirements.
Mate please! This is the second video where you’re dragging a binder across the back of the car just like in the blue Ferrari Daytona video. I realize it’s probably barely affecting the finish and could be polished back to perfection but why not just lay the documents out on a desk or somewhere other than the actual £1.5m car 🤦🏻♂️
I work in a dealership selling new Mazda's let alone F40's and this was my first thought!! My god man what are you doing?? Seeing him do this almost broke me.
I absolutely enjoyed this very well done video on one of if not the best Ferraris ever made! I noticed a little jab at the American spec cars there but it is the truth due to our government’s ability to ruin so many things ( yea I’m a yank) so we have to put up with it(for the most part)! The only thing that I like about the American spec cars over the euro spec are the fuel tanks. The euro cars have cleaner, sharper body lines! Really loved learning a bit more about the changes the car underwent during it’s production run and all the details to look for. Thank you for imparting this knowledge on us viewers.
Very intersting video, usefull for my next buy ( when lottery will be on my side! ) I have a question, something you didn't talk about but i never seen before, the Plexiglass of the rear lid / trunk / boot , it is not standard one , neither the prototype one, can you talk about it ? show pictures ?
Excellent and very interesting video, its funny how due to idiotic GDPR rules these days we sell everyday bread and butter cars and we are not allowed to tell a prospective customer the name of the previous owner, or leave any evidence of their address un redacted on service books or invoices, yet these are the very things that make classic cars history so interesting, and creates the story
Also: If you were to look on Ebay right now, there is a 1992 north American spec F40 in the USA with a claimed milage of 193. A dream machine without a doubt. However, looking at the photos have me seeing some red flags. First of all, the car has a rather shitty application of clear bra on the front panels. The best that I can figure is that it was hastily applied to protect the paint while the dealer/owner put a few miles on it before pushing it on. But putting photos on the net with that on it was a terrible marketing mistake. It's Sloppy and stupid for such an example. The second thing is that it's wearing non-matching, modern Perrelli tires on the front, while having the correct, late 80's/early 90's PZERO's on the rear. These details could be easily overlooked on a "driver's example". However, on a "collector's special", amazingly low milage car like it's claimed to be, these issues give me pause. Have a look at it on line if you find a minute to do so and let us know what you think. Thank you again for the content. (Edit: The more I look at it the more I question it. Other than the paint, it looks dirty.)
FUNZO1975 He just spent a considerable amount if time producing this video, which you happily watched for free. Now you’re looking at a million dollar plus car purchase and rather than hiring him, you want him to donate more time to personally give you an evaluation of a specific car? Wow!
@@overbuiltlimited Tom made the video for likely 2 reasons. One of them is to show his expertise on the subject thus, business promotion. The other would be out of his genuine passion for the F40. The more information he has about any given example, the broader his knowledge base becomes thus making his value as an authority on the model grater. The particular F40 I was referring to (if it is truly as low mileage as claimed) would be an extraordinary example that would be of interest to Tom and the caliber of clients he services. It wouldn't be an "ordinary" (if there is such a thing) F40, and that is why I referred it to him for a casual look at the listing if he were so inclined to find a moment to do so. And believing that Tom REALLY has a passion well beyond just as "car salesman" for these automobiles, I felt that it may interest him. Beyond that, I and many if not most of the viewers of this video are obsessive aficionados of the F40 and can't get enough info on the subject. And here YOU come along, white knighting for Tom like some douche bag at the pub whom interrupts a conversation between a man and woman saying to her... "Is this guy bothering you?" "I was just watching you from across the bar and it looked to me like this guy is bothering you"

Thanks
Great video, please do one on the 308GTB that you have in stock.Very informative and enjoyable.Thankyou.
Another awesome video, I feel educated, absolutely love these videos Tom 👏👏👏
Really enjoyed this, your knowledge and enthusiasm is infectious
Best video on TH-cam
So interesting and so wicked to really really geek out on Ferrari’s
Absolutely loved it keep them coming!!!
Amazing vid - outstanding knowledge - no surprise to me but shows you are a world leader in these vehicles. Guess you might be regretting the squeaky shoes tho ;)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Tom. It was painful to watch you give up [for free!] something you'd taken years to acquire. Knowledge is power!
Glad i heard what he said at the end. I was gonna buy like a decent one. But I'll pay the extra for a pristine example.
Very interesting info - great job
Still hold dk as the standard of ferrari knowledge, especially for functional and reliable f40s, but this was quite a bit better than expected.
Well thanks for watching!
thanks for the info keep the reviews and documentation coming of what makes a great car !
Great content Tom, thanks. Keep it coming. Can you do a buying guide on the 288 GTO?
This could very easily have come off as condescending...but it didn't. Kudos to Tom for keeping it real.
A true professional at work. Thank you for sharing.
Regards
Well done Tom. Fascinating video. Very insightful look at an iconic car.
Thomas. Sir.
Pardon me, but you must realize that we all wish to know the details about why you were put-off buying the "1,100. KM" F40 that you spoke of.
Take your time and put out another 30min + video about the F40 topic to explain it to us.
Thank you in advance for the content.
Outstanding! Thank you for sharing your passion.
Salaam by the way what country are you from.
Dudes!
...relax. The car's gonna be alright.
@@FUNZO1975 I appreciate the concern but don't worry that much. Just be careful and nothing will happen but I can understand the concern.
Great video Tom, would love to hear your knowledge of the Brunei f40's.
And what about replaced fuel bladders? Can you touch on that a tad?
Very intersting video, usefull for my next buy ( when lottery will be on my side! )
I have a question, something you didn't talk about but i never seen before, the Plexiglass of the rear lid / trunk / boot , it is not standard one , neither the prototype one, can you talk about it ? show pictures ?
Brilliant content thank you so much for sharing your hard earned knowledge 👍👍👍👍
Great video Tom. Between you and Iain Tyrell, we’ll all be better educated on the Italian classics
Wondeful!
great video tom,im currently in the market for an F40 and this video has been invaluable
zack502 did you look on done deal ?
Absolutely brilliant video, defo buying my next Ferrari from you Tom...
Also:
If you were to look on Ebay right now, there is a 1992 north American spec F40 in the USA with a claimed milage of 193.
Thank you. I was looking at this car earlier today, and felt exactly the same way.
FUNZO1975 He just spent a considerable amount if time producing this video, which you happily watched for free. Now you’re looking at a million dollar plus car purchase and rather than hiring him, you want him to donate more time to personally give you an evaluation of a specific car? Wow!

Tom made the video for likely 2 reasons.
"Is this guy bothering you?"
"I was just watching you from across the bar and it looked to me like this guy is bothering you"
Brilliant .. Really enjoyed the show I can watch you Jay Leno garage Harry’s Garage and Ian Tyrrell’s classic workshop videos all day . 😊
Hello Tom,,, fantastic describe i noticed that the vin-code does not match the body nr.. is there a reason for that ?? 340 vs 569 ?
Thank you for sharing your expertise and insight!!
