I agree 100%. At a time the country's economy has almost hit the rock bottom, these gender-sexuality issues are not that important or peripheral at best. Whether we like it or not, the homosexuals and bisexuals are what they are and nothing new to human civilization. The reason they've increased in large numbers is the massive population growth as well as the reasons that were pointed out by the book "The Naked Ape", namely the rapid spread of the modern western culture with it's inherent issues. Homosexual-bisexual-gender fluid organized communities are side tracking the burning issue of the island by enforcing their own minority issues with a relatively irrelevant and untimely political agenda. Unlike in the western society, there hasn't been a widespread and highly discriminatory cultural issue against homosexuals in the Sri Lankan Buddhist culture. The binary culture of the repressed western society has elevated the 'problem' to a real problem through religious zealotry. What has been a real concern at global level is that the LGBTQ politically organized crowds have been influencing a minority problem to enforce LGBTQ as a majority which has resulted in the forced adoption of gender neutral pronouns in countries like Canada, US etc to enforce ordinary heterosexuals to use such pronouns or face legal consequences, including jail terms in certain cases. These are actually not the kind of isolated problems of gender equality but the inherent dilemmas of the modern western culture. Study the discrimination behavior between gender queer groups themselves to understand the hypocrisy of these nut headed politically organized groups. Asexuals are yet to be addressed in this gender equation issue. Notice the hostility between known homosexuals and transgenders you can see what these people are on about. Blindly accepting western society's inherent baggage problems into countries like Sri Lanka can hinder the growth of the society and very likely adversely affect any cultural revival by sidetracking the real cultural, social, political and economic issues. IMHO, in the Buddhist culture, these western invented gender baggage is largely irrelevant, and most definitely irrelevant at this stage of the country's political-economic uprising and for the foreseeable future. In other words, homosexual marriage is irrelevant and uncalled for political campaign at this stage. In my personal observation, hostility or violence toward homosexuals in Sri Lanka has been extremely rare other than an isolated incident here and there, as opposed to the widespread religious oriented homophobia in the western society. Study the Buddhist culture in Sri Lanka via Buddhist literature and we can observe that they are not obsessed with gender binary culture as it has been the historical case in the western culture. Leaving western societies manufactured stupid problems in the western society can help Sri Lanka at this stage and it is most definitely the preferred approach at this particular stage of political renaissance in Sri Lanka.
