Centurion has always been one of my favorites. I've always considered them a mech for people who have mastered torso twisting. The big shield arm just makes playing to its strengths even better. It has a lot of extra arm structure too, in addition to all that armor.
I know it's been said before, But I have to say it again. I am so happy that Baradul is back to making MWO content. I even dropped with him a few times in the past month.
I've been waiting for a shield component like this in MWO. MW4's Black Knight had an extra component that was just a shield and it was fantastic it was sad to see it go
@@ironboy3245 yes and no. I appreciate the change to try and nerf the giga alpha vomit builds, but most of the time they have the chance to get into cover and cool down anyway. @@maikilangiolo I was thinking more about when you get into brawl range of them they can't just blast alphas at you with coolshots dealing with the heat. Brawlers tend to be able to put out more sustainable DPS than gigavomit builds can
We could get it in a future title, you never know! Heck, maybe the last DLC could even implement it, after all they did put Chem Lasers in as periphery tech despite them lore-wise being clan-only originally!
Game one, we get a reminder why Baradul used to go by Molten Metal. He'd have to pay double to his MechTechs to put up with always bringing the mech back half slagged, molten and fused together, and not from enemy fire :D
Seeing that shield structure piece made me imagine: What if you could move them? You could have a team mate with his shield on the right, yours on the left, and the two of you go side by side. Like walking between two walls.
I swapped out the LB10 for an SRM6+A. The damage is a little higher, but I sacrifice range. That's not a problem, though, since I can now fit a Light 250 engine and can more safely get in close. Either way, I really enjoy this mech, and I hope to see shields on a Black Knight or the like. The shield does work really well when used, but I still run into people who have the Oryx and try to stare me down.
Light engine is the way to go, was wondering why I've been winning fight versus these guys reccently by taking out their RT in an AC2 spam mech in CQC.
I would love to see them adding stuff like the Hatchetman's hatchet and mech Swords into the game too, give heavies and assaults soemthing to swipe at Lights attempting to brownnose them with Machine guns, and also make close-range ambushes very lethal indeed other tahn that, making shields like this more available would also be awesome, even if that tones down the Onyx's uniqueness a bit.
I actually took torso speed on it for the memes...its kinda hilarious how insanly face you can shoot and just instantly snack to the side. like my shield is up before my shot lands >.
First MWO video I've had pop up in my feed for a long time. Did they ever fix the Pinpoint High Damage Alpha centered gameplay? That definitely killed it for me when the power creep resulted in losing half a mech (if not outright instantly getting KO'd) in half a second from a single mech in your own weight class. I've still never forgiven them for mangling the design of the Enforcer either. The concept art looked so good and the 3D model looked like they gave the intern a crack at doing a model on their own. The shield thing is really cool, and I loved bolt ons for some actualy customization finally. But I think MWO needs an update, or they need to look at potentially doing a MWO2 with a more recent engine, better net coding, and some actual balance based gameplay instead of trying to appease the lore-hards and competitive gamers. (I haven't played in so long, if they fixed anything I'd be surprised as the game felt like it was left to rot for so long...)
I run an MRM 40 and 2xML on mine. I also run an XL engine, since per TTB it is an "XL-safe" mech (I almost ALWAYS die from CT, and only a few times from a side torse). It isn't as survivable as I had hoped, though. I put torso twist speed as well as hard braking, to allow for poking from cover.
I put a heavy PPC, U/AC 5, and pair of medium lasers on mine with the idea of maximizing my damage while maximizing the amount of time I can use the shield. I like setting up in front of a formation and putting that shield to good use while my friends shoot the enemies.
haven't played MWO in a while but would love to see hatchets and swords added. Would be sick to play with the Blackknight BL-9-KNT or Hatamoto-Chi with their swords (hatchets)
Surprised Bara doesn't take torso twist speed on this variant. He was waffling on speed tweak, so it seems like torso twist is an obvious choice with the shield.
Now that they have made the shield a piece of equipment in the game, they can add it to other marginal mech variants with crappy hardpoints. Maybe Vindicator, or Wolverine, Cataphract, Orion, etc.
Can you try MRM30 w/ 3x MPL, XL255 the shield does a much better job of protecting the left torso. MPL in the right arm doesn't have a barrel that sticks out and if you lose your right arm you only lose 15% of your dps. The twists are not nearly as clean as pinpoint weapons but both MRMs and pulses are fairly quick duration and the potential output is much higher.
As someone who's played a lot versus these as an AC2 spammer in brawls, XL builds seem good but you're in a losing battle vs other brawlers. Should try with Snub/Snub/SRM Artemis or MRM as I've been RTing these MF'ers like crazy
point of the ppcs is to do instant pinpoint damage so you can twist and shield. Using lasers, especially large ones, means you have to stare longer and your damage gets spread out.
