  • With great success from my Chocolate Scotch Bonnet growing in this method, I've had many questions asking how I created the container. In this video, I'm going to show you how to make an indoor self watering bucket as well as show you the progress of the plant after 2 months. Please comment, subscribe, like and share!

    I am doing exactly this right now! I drove for 2 hours asking around about master blend before I remembered you saying amazon. But it's on the way I'm blindly guessing about my ph for now but once everything arrives I will have all I need to have it done right! I used 1/2 of a lemon to lower the ph for one gallon of water and had that tested it read 6.1. Placed them into a grow tent under a 45 watt led grow light and that was 4 days ago and they are looking great! Humidity is 60% temp is 77 and in that 4 day period it produced 12-20 new pods 2 of which are making reapers today. I'm going to leave one in soil and the other exactly like this video and do a comparison. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

    Love your videos. Clear, concise and to the point. My question. Since you know that the roots will extend into the reservoir without a netcup wick for the indoor system, do you still use the net cup in the outdoor version?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +marvsandman I use the netcup outdoor because it will allow water to be wicked up to the plants' roots since I'm not always around to assist with watering from the top when needed. With indoor method, if I see that the plant is sending roots down fast enough and becomes dry, I can assist watering.

    Very Nice, I got a question.
    While watering your pepper plants from the top, how often you do it? Once the roots reached the bottom of the bucket, the plant will "drink" as much nutrients they need correct? But when it´s necessary to water from top, is it ok if we just check if the soil is too dry or do we need to water it every day?
    Great Channel, I love your videos Dude.

      Just make a Kratky hidro setup dude, way less complicated and to the point. Or grow peppers in coco coir +perlite 2:1. This setup Khang did is just inefficient and frankly it solves problems noone has. Why use 2 buckets when you can use 1? Why use substrate if i can grow without? Why not commit either substrate farming or hidro why go with a wonky hibrid of both that has none of the benefits of either?

    I've been digging your videos and have learned enough to be inspired to give some hydroponics a go. I've started with a cayenne pepper (it was the only seeds I had) and so far so good. Amazing root growth and the plant seems relatively healthy. The only thing is that things aren't happening as fast as yours are. It's been about a month now since it sprouted and it only has about 6 to 8 leaves. I'm thinking it's probably the light intensity. So my question is what light are you using and is it able to take a pepper all the way to harvist? I live in Norway so I have to basically grow indoors because it's windy and cold where i live.

    Thanks for this and all of your extremely helpful videos. My kids and I have a nice variety of peppers growing and we love your specific 2-bucket method described here. We've setup 3 gal. buckets that drop into 5 gal. buckets to form a slightly larger reservoir so hopefully when our plants grow bigger they can survive more than a few days without replenishment. We wanted to ask your opinion about what range of differences in the amount of water/nutrients can the plants handle without damaging the plant? i.e., Should we try to maintain exactly the same volume of nutrients in the bucket, or can the plant handle a few inches of up/down height differences?

    • @KhangStarr

    • @MikeDMays
      @MikeDMays 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      V R I just added a 4 port air pump to my 4 2gallon buckets and am trying this now. It's been 4 days and I have been running my lights way more than needed so I'm now running 12/12 and I just noticed I have a reaper growing about the size of where the pinky bends aka 1/2 inch lol. I am losing flowers though I don't know if is because I'm not hand pollinating or because of my light cycle. I did place a fan at the top blowing at a angle across the peppers it is on a timer with the light. If all goes well my roots should extend and peppers take off!

      +Robert Beasley If the roots are longer, try to get them as close as you can. If they are not long enough, simply water from the top and eventually the roots will find their way. Roots always find their way to the water source.

    if you use sharp sand or pebbles by itself and drilling holes at the bottom there is no need for a net cup in the center since the roots are going down to the reservoir I am not sure if the wicking process will happen from center cup with dirt to sharpsand so basically enough holes at the bottom should be enough for sharpsand only

So far I've been using about half a teaspoon of both the masterblend and calcium nitrate. Then about 1/4th teaspoon of the epsom salt, per gallon of water. is that water reservoir working by evaporation if the roots have not reached the bottom of the pot ?

      If the roots have not reached, try water from top.

    So have you switched from using Kratky indoors?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BackTo Basics This method is semi Kratky and semi soil I would say. The roots are still submerged in nutrients once they reach the reservoir.

    • @BackToBasics001
      @BackToBasics001 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Khang Starr I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I am finding that as the plant gets bigger in the mini kratky (with a 1-2inch netpot) the plant gets a bit "tippy". If my cat decides to investigate what I'm growing, I sometimes find my plants doing a poor impression of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I'm thinking the roots will have something more substantial to take hold of and stay upright.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BackTo Basics I had the same issue with my Kratky as well, that's why I keep trimming to keep them small. With this setup, the roots are trained to grow far down creating a very stable foundation for the plant. Also, you can use as large of a container as you like. The larger the containers, the bigger the plants get and the more it produces. It's ridiculous how much fruits you will get.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      if your mix is between 5.5 - 6.5, then you're all set. If it's not between that range, your plants will not do well.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Avocados are trees and need lots of space to grow. I tried this on a Moringa tree and it outgrew the container so fast.

    • @bryan922
      @bryan922 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will not lead to root rot but you have to let peppers dry out a bit so they can produce the capsaicin which makes them spicy. If you don’t want spicy peppers then you can grow them hydroponically with no problems.
