This video is still very relevant. I had no idea I was suppose to shake or agitate the flowers allowing the pollen to be released. I've had a fully blooming plant for the past 2 months and only had 3 to 5 peppers grow. I just used the q tip method, and saw so much pollen fall all over the plant. I'm gonna do this every other day now! Thank you so much, you're a life saver!!

I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting flower drop on my Carolina Reapers this summer and found a few issues/strategies that helped outside those mentioned in the video (I did start there!). 1) Indoors: Grow light frequency. As soon as I moved from T5s to more of a "bloom" frequency things improved a lot. 2) Outdoors: in direct sunlight I had flower drop issues, so I just moved the plants into full shade for about a week. That's all it took to get fruiting going. After a week I moved them back into the sun. 3) If all else fails, I would give up and steal pollen from another variety (fish peppers work great, they have TONS of pollen) and use that instead. Just thought I'd share a few more options. BTW I only have these issue with Reapers... everything else seems fine without doing any of the above.

    • @justvibin1215
      @justvibin1215 ปีที่แล้ว

That's the exact issue I'm having with mine too! All my others are fine (except for one that hasn't even begun to flower) but my Reaper is the only one having issues.

I started 4 bell pepper plants from seed in 16 ounce solo cups as an experiment, 2 in my basement and 2 outside to compare initial growth. Once the experiment was done (they grew about the same) I moved all of them into a 10x20 seedling tray and put them outside and continued to feed them hydroponic nutrient. I had intended to add them to some place in my garden but never did. I did prune them to only have 1 "Y" split and the plants only grew about 18" due to the small cup I assume. However they did produce full size peppers to my amazement. Not many but beautiful full sized bells.

Ive been growing my ghost chilli plants since january, and now all 5 plants have got a crazy amount of flowers. Id say about 70% of that dropped, but ive got healthy growing chillies that take up the 30%... recently i noticed that there are more and moee flowers dropping. Awesome video! One thing that we do when we are transplanting pepper and tomato plants is to drop about 2 tbsp of crushed up egg shells into the bottom of the hole. We keep a large cottage cheese container in the laundry room. Every time we cook eggs we drop the egg shells into the container. We wait a few days for the egg shells to dry, then we crush them. All of our pepper problems and bloom end rot on our tomatoes ceased when we started doing this. Just an idea.

My peppers are grown indoors under shop light and its always moist never dries out and this method has really helped my pepper plants from dropping flowers :) Yay all my chile and bell peppers have a lot of flower and fruits on it so excited.

I grow outside and have had plants die off at the top, loads of fruit below??Bit of thought later was,the plant had directed its energy to the fruit and not the top of the plant.I was under the illusion that the soil had enough in it.
I gave them fish emulsion which i have made, flowers appeared on other plants and i got new growth and lots of flowers on plants that hadnt died of.I had also added pigeon dropping to fish emulsion,i know that phosphor and kalium help in flower production from my hydro days.
NPK is Nitrogen,Phosphor and Kalium(Potassium),Nitrogen for the growth/Green.Phosphur for the roots when young and flowering when older.Kalium(Potassium for moving the sugars around the plants.
They are all important in the growth and health of the plant, but must be used differently at differently at the stages of growth of the plant.
We had a lot of rain here, too much!and with my plants i guess it had leached the nutrients from the soil.
After i had given extra food (fish emulsion) everything took off again.I also tickle the flowers with a paint brush, even though they are outside helps nature, and amount of fruit you get.

      This is why...
For a pepper plant to produce a peck of peppers to pick, proper pollination is a prerequisite. Pollination of bell peppers occurs only in specific temperature range. The flowers are self-pollinating and do not need the assistance of bees. Certain instances may require pollination help for bell peppers.

Those pepper plants are amazing. I'm actually growing a chilli plant in an unheated shed in the UK. It has one large white flower and about 7 tiny buds on the top leaves. At the moment it's getting a lot of sun. I have been feeding it tomato feed every 2 days which I'm not sure is too often. I'll have to move it inside in a few weeks as I don't have a greenhouse. I really like your grow box. I have some silver foam insulation boards which I could use for the sides and will probably just buy a cheap striplight for lighting. Anyway great video I'm now off to shake my plant.

Thank you for giving me this link. I'm lucky the south side of my living room is all windows, so I bring in all my tropical plants (Minnesota) and all kinds of herb. I also have a garden window where I can put quite a few plants and In the basement I have an area for growing seedling. I understand your problem with so many plants, I'm the same. I'm trying your suggestion for growing some cuttings. Thanks. Nice site.

Khang ,thanks great information , i thought the pollen would fall by itself ,had no idea that it needed assistace inside , will try the tooth brush trick . thanks again. Mike

+mike mcquillan For indoors, sometimes the plant is very still for extended period, since there is nothing to assist with the drop. By the time pollen is ready to drop on their own, the flower is already pass that crucial point. For outdoors, there are winds and bees, etc.. to assist with that.

When I brought a dwarf "saffron habanero" plant in this fall it popped buds and then dropped them a week or two later. Thought that was kind of funny. It's like it panicked or got confused by the seasons. It's doing great inside now, but no more buds for now. Wasn't really expecting much fruit from it until next summer anyway.

Now I understand, why my plants grow so many fruits when they’re outside but so few when they’re inside.

I’ve grown peppers for years successfully but this year is a total bummer 😏hardly any buds and lots of them falling off and I have no idea why. I tested my soil and everything is balanced. I’m growing outside and the heat has been through the roof 100+ degrees ( Florida ) so that might be the problem . Can you help please ?
Thank you for your amazing videos 🙏

Hi Khang, excellent video. I've been growing a pepper plant at work, for fun. I noticed that flowers were growing but not producing fruit. After watching the video, it helped me understand that my theory was correct. The pollen needed to be disturbed. Due to your excellent video, I've started dropping the pollen and hope to see some fruit grow soon. You've also got another subscriber for it as well!
