    Brilliant! I've sewn with a Bernina 930 for 34 years now. Best machine ever!

    Since I've bought a couple of jointed dolls, I instantly subscribe. I meant, before, it was because I'm interested. Loved your video coz it's so straight to the point.

    Very nicely done! I would also mention to new sewers to notice that you always make sure to sink your needle before lifting the foot & moving fabrics. 😊

    Very good advice thank you and I love the comment below, yes, please leave the needle in before lifting the pressure foot, the amount of times I have lifted the foot and the needle was out and everything just moves and I had to restart. Frustrations, I'm glad that you mentioned that the sewing machine can eat the fabric, which is what I'm currently facing, I think my sewing machine is hangry or something because the moment I try sewing dolls clothes, it just sucks in my pretty, delicate fabric and then it's ruined so I've taken a break from sewing dolls clothes until I can get a brand new Singer Stylist 9960 but man they're expensive. Sorry for rambling, I went down the rabbit hole. Thanks for the tips and tricks. FYI, I'm getting a smart doll soon, heeheehee, I'm super excited you have no idea.

    I've been sewing barbie clothes for 20 years (self taught) and have never been able to master sleeves. Who knew it was me pinning it that was always the problem. Practiced quite a few times to get it right via your method, I'll need to do it much more to get it down without fault, I can at least get a sleeve in finally without puckering! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I'm used to sewing a 1/8" seam with my brother straight foot w/ a clear window...but ordered a narrow straight foot as well now. :-)

    • @MaileLani
      @MaileLani  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yay! I'm so glad this was helpful! And yes, pinning is my nightmare with tiny things haha. I always just manually feed most things without pins now. It's so much easier to see what's going on

    Thanks! Even though I've been sewing for a long time I've never sewn small as Blythe clothing! And what I have sewn for dolls has been by hand for the most part. I have a Bernina 930 (1980s) and I have a few bjds and other dolls, most under 16 inches tall. I might have to give machine sewing a try! Thanks for the vid, good closeups, what device did you use for the shoot?

    What do you do it it is a gathered sleeve? Do you pin it then, or do you have another nifty way of doing it? thank you

    • @MaileLani
      @MaileLani  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do it the same with with a gathered sleeve! I would sugest after gathering the sleeve that you iron down the gathers just so it's a little easier to work with. It's a little hard to explain without a visual, but I'm planning on doing a start to finish dress tutorial video in the next few weeks, and I'll make sure to choose something with gathered sleeves so then you can see how I do it!

    Ah this is just what I needed. Trying to get into sewing teeny tiny 1/6 scale clothes for 'action figures' (they're dolls. With guns.) and I was about to lose my mind trying to sew sleeves that small onto the clothes.

    Should I try hand stitching first before getting a sewing machine?

    • @MaileLani
      @MaileLani  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends what kind of sewing you're going to do! I personally don't like hand sewing because I'm very impatient, but a lot of people love hand sewing!

    Is it possible to sew doll clothes which just a needle and thread? No sewing machine?

    • @MaileLani
      @MaileLani  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes of course! Tbh, it's probably a lot easier haha! Personally, I'm very impatient and don't like hand sewing anything (I've been trying to figure out a way to avoid hand sewing my snaps on for yearsssss), but you can very easily hand sew dolly clothes, lots of people do actually!

      LOL!!!!! It's funny because I used to think I had really tiny fingers until I became a wedding photographer. Over the past 11+ years I've photographed so many wedding bands and legit 90% of them would not fit on my pinky! Now I'm convinced I have giant sausage fingers LOL
