What a great win! It is so pretty and feminine, which are both admirable traits in a demure summer frock. Peggy Sagers of Silhouette Patterns has some old TH-cam videos that explained women sizing… should grade to have more room for arm circumference or more thigh room in shorts or pants. Just because a woman puts on some weight doesn’t mean her bone structure continues to grow. Glad to hear that the Butterick patterns don’t grade insanely. There may be issues in the larger sizes…that sometimes happens from what I’ve read. Thanks for the fabric recommendation..we just moved to Florida and a pretty summer dress sounds alike a nice addition.
Thank you for the information on sizing! I'll watch the Peggy Sagers videos and will maybe put together a video with everything I find. My biggest complaint with grading is that they assume our shoulders have increased in size. That's probably why so many Indies have done well (Cashmerette, for example). We lived in Florida for 8 years and dresses are definitely the way to go! ☀️ Thank you for watching!
That dress is beautiful I love pink 💗 Evelyn wood is a great for tips and tricks and helpful to make us want to be more carefu to l take your time and do more professional finishing I like wearing hose as well I think that on shift dress or some longer dresses. I think the dress doesn't stick to your legs looks dressier to me especially at a wedding or something I do like longer summer dresses with sandals and no hose for a barbeque or something Thank you for sharing Happy sewing Take care ❤️
Thank you so much, Joanne! I watched a styling video the other day and the presenter made a very strong case for wearing hose. She talked about how they can make legs look better, and it sounds like we both agree. Do you also enjoy how silky legs feel with hose? I like the smoothness 😊
I really enjoy your fabric descriptions. I often pick fabrics that are way to heavy, and forget about volume of ruffles and such.I must say the color of your fabric looks great with your blonde hair. Now you need to find some pink wedges!! Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks, Barbara! Some fabric companies post weights in gsm (grams per square metre) in the listings and I've started using that when I can't touch it. That said, this fabric was lighter than I anticipated. I thought they had only sent me a yard when I felt the package! And you just reminded me that I have pink suede heels in the closet! 🌷
Thank you so much Janine for dropping your link on my IG. I've just bought this pattern. I'm big busted and worried it might gape, as I'm not very good at FBA so hoping I can sew this straight out the packet. Your dress is gorgeous. I like view C skirt with view B bodice
This dress looks beautiful on you! Hope you get invited to that garden party! Another fabulous make. Great solution on the waist/belt situation. Enjoy wearing your latest creation.
Janine , you really hit the mark with this dress. Consider making it in a winter fabric and wear with leggings and a sweater either under or cardigan style. It suits you well for most any occasion. Lovely in every way. I too am a hose woman much to my girls dismay.
Thanks, Joyce! Very interesting idea. Many years ago I made a dress in Viyella. It draped nicely and was warm but I don't know if you can buy yardage anymore. Do you have any ideas for fabric? I do like wearing dresses with tights and boots! ❤️
I see it is a blend of wool and cotton, okay, on the right track. Fabric Mart has some wool suiting but the Colors may not appeal to you but their inventory changes quickly.
It’s a beautiful dress! I am not sure of the exact differences, but womens and misses are each based on a different block. In the distant past I have worn some women’s ready to wear in a 16W, and those clothes definitely fit differently than a misses 16. Last year for frugal frocks on Instagram I made a Mary Quant inspired 60s style dress. I was torn between making a size 14 or a 16, and the pattern came in a set of smaller sizes up to a 14, and then a larger set that started at a 16. The 16 was not graded up from the 14. It was quite different. Not much help I suppose, but it’s a bit of info to add while you figure this mystery out.
Thanks so much, Tammy! This is good input. It's really odd that the pattern companies don't spell it out anywhere. You would think that there would be a different block. 🤷♀️
I really like the way you affixed the belt to the back waistline. I believe I’m going to be using that in the future! Your dress is beautiful! 🥰 I enjoy wearing dresses in the summer. I live in the “hot as he 🏒🏒” southeastern US.
Thank you, Lynn! I think I'll be attaching the belt again, too! I recall very well the awful, never-ending heat and humidity in the SE. It just weighs on you. Dresses are a really good way to go! 💐
Lovely girly dress. Everyone needs one, imo. I rarely see patterns for Women, as opposed to Misses. I assumed they were a thing of the past! I feel that's the type I need to be choosing!
Hi Karen! This pattern only came in W sizes - I wonder if the Big 4s are using Ws to expand their sizing? This year I decided to try different things with the Fabric Mart Makes - maybe go out of my comfort zone a bit since the fabric is gifted. Any ideas for what I should try in August?
Thank you! 😊 I didn't realise that I couldn't get a good fitting, mostly because I just wasn't thinking and I don't have much experience with wrap dresses. This is just another reminder (for me 😁) that I need to take my time. Sometimes I just want the project done!!
You look beautiful in this lovely dress! The fabric is such a great match for the wrap pattern. Sewing the belt to the dress is a wonderful idea that I will use when I make my next wrap dress. Keep the videos coming; I enjoy them so much!
So so pretty Janine! I think the fabric choice was perfect for the pattern. The print, colors and silhouette are so flattering on your figure. I am a hosiery girl too. Always enjoy your videos, thank you. P.S. The word 'challis' is also commonly pronounced pronounced as 'shally'.
Thank you, Charlotte! Glad to hear that there are a few of us who still wear hose. 😊 I only heard people pronounce challis as 'shally' when I started watching TH-cam videos from the U.S. I think we in Canada pronounce it the same as the Brits?
Janine, been watching you for awhile and you are always making so many wonderful clothes for yourself. You have a good eye for your style, color, and comfort. Sheree has channel at TH-cam, "Sherees Alchemy" and she makes and loves the wrap dress, her's are sometimes over the top colorful and look amazing, you may want to check out her channel.
Renee, thanks so much for your kind words and for the recommendation to watch Sheree's channel! ❤️ Now that I figured out how to watch TH-cam on the TV in my sewing room, I'm really enjoying watching lots of videos.
Marilyn, that was made by a member of the sewing guild in Atlanta. She made that gorgeous quilt and offered it on a silent auction to benefit the group. She really has a good eye for colour and design. I'm very grateful to have it because it brings lots of good memories of my friends in that group.
Hello from a fellow Canadian! 🇨🇦 Very pretty dress and you look lovely in it! 💖 I guess people would consider me old fashioned but when I wear a dress or skirt that could even remotely be see-through, I always wear a slip. Modesty is very important to me and it's also the way I was raised. Of course, the other exception would be if the garment was lined. On another note, did you make the cushions in the ikat fabric that are on the daybed? I love the fabric and was wondering where you got it (if you made them). Thank you for your videos. Although I'm not quite 50 (I'm 47), I enjoy them very much. BTW, how are you able to watch GBSB from Canada? I've wanted to check it out for a long time but don't know where I can watch it. Happy sewing!
Thank you, Lori! 🇨🇦 And I still think I'm 28 so there you go! I also like wearing slips with anything that might be even slightly translucent. I don't think it's old fashioned, it's what we're comfortable with 😊 It's really difficult to find slips these days. I did pick up a Kwik Sew pattern for slips a couple of weeks ago and plan to make my own dress and skirt slips if I can find the right fabric. I think people recommend tricot? The pillows are not my handiwork. I had someone make window treatments for our house in Atlanta, before I started sewing again, and she did such a perfect job that I later had her make up all kinds of things for the house. She was just a perfectionist and had an excellent eye. The Ikat and striped fabrics were from Calico Corners but you could probably find similar in Canada. At the moment, I'm watching past seasons of the Great British Sewing Bee on MAKEFUL TV on Shaw cable. (I believe there are different cable companies in Canada that carry this channel.) In past years it was available on Reddit but it's become more difficult so I'm watching old series and waiting for the new whenever it's available here (autumn, I believe). Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
@@JanineSews Yes, tricot is what slips are traditionally made of if you purchase a RTW one. I personally hate synthetic fabrics so I avoid them whenever possible. However, you can make one out of a very lightweight woven such as cotton or rayon voile, a more slippery woven such as cupro or bemberg lining, or if you want one that stretches, like tricot does, a variety of lightweight knits would probably work. There are definitely patterns out there for slips but even a pattern for a slip dress (especially cut on the bias) or a nightie (lingerie style) could work. Sometimes we just have to think outside of the box a bit and adapt a pattern to fit our needs. The nice thing about sewing is that we can do that. 😊 Thanks for your reply and the information. Have a great day.
Misses are sized for an A or B bust, Women's are for larger busts. So the armhole is lower and the bust apex is lower.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Nancy! The bust dart was definitely lower on this one. 🙏
I love this, pink is so pretty on you, more dresses please Janine. 👌💕
Thank you! I love dresses, too. There are a few in my "next up" pattern box!
I love your pretty dress! Great idea to sew the belt to the back. Looks great.
Thank you! Sure makes it easier to keep the belt in place when it's sewn there.
You look so lovely in your new dress.love that fabric
Thank you so much, Joyce! The fabric has turned out to be a great choice. It barely needs pressing after being washed! 💐
That IS a very pretty dress and looks lovely on you. I really like the idea of sewing the belt to the back. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
What a beautiful dress. The challis is a great.
Thank you, Lynne!
You dress is lovely and looks beautiful on you!🌷
Thank you so much!
That was a great solution to your waist issue, your dress looks marvellous.
Thank you, Jane!
Very pretty dress. That looks so nice on you. I'm a "hose" girl too. I won't wear a dress without them.
Thank you, Oleta! 💕

Thank you so much, Chris!
I love the belt sewed on!!
Thanks! It's a pretty simple solution to a common problem. Don't know why we all haven't thought of it before 🤣
Love the print.
Thank you!
love the way you describe & explain the construction process for your new summer dress. Maybe the Queen will invite you to her Spring garden party!!!
Linda, thanks so much 😁! Wouldn't it be fun to be invited to a proper garden party?
That dress is beautiful I love pink 💗

Very pretty dress! And the colors-- first thing I noticed-- are very flattering on you.
Thank you so much! ❤️
Thanks for this advice. I bought this pattern today.
Hope you like it!
It’s a beautiful dress
Thank you! Can’t wait until it’s wears enough to wear dresses.

This dress looks beautiful on you! Hope you get invited to that garden party! Another fabulous make. Great solution on the waist/belt situation. Enjoy wearing your latest creation.
Thank you, Kathleen! A garden party would be fun, wouldn't it?
I have been always told that the difference was around the middle.
Thanks, Nancy! That's what I read somewhere as well. I wish someone would put together some clear guidance.

How brave of you to make a garment without trying it on. It’s a beautiful dress. I hope you can reuse this classic pattern for years to come.
