  • In this book "The Pulse of Life" Dane Rudhyar suggested that signs are primarily 12 phases of a cycle. The personality characteristics and behaviors of a zodiac sign are expressions of being in a particular phase. This insight brings greater clarity to our understanding of zodiac signs.

Shy Leo here! Love this take on the signs, thank you for posting it!
This reminds me of Myers-Briggs and how its superficial understanding is based on temperament and how you behave and act around other people, when the original intention was to describe how you take in and process the world around you. A lot of the behaviour and temperament for mine rings true, except for the part where I'm not what most people would read as an "extrovert", though in Jungian terms I am one. It's so hard to describe because it's much more abstract, so I think people revert to some of the more obvious manifestations of those signs.
I've been learning a bit of evolutionary astrology, and this also reminds me of those interpretations-- the emphasis seems to be more on needs and inclinations, and being a shy Leo, but still relating very much to Leo, I've been coming to this conclusion pretty organically. I like this way of seeing things a lot and I'm looking forward to watching the videos for the individual signs-- it sounds like they'll be just the thing I've been trying to find; more dynamic takes on the archetypes. And re: archetypes, I feel the signs as archetypes are still valuable, and we still kind of "carry" them within us, and sometimes they do manifest quite literally, but it's like how any myth is an exaggeration to more clearly illustrate the meaning behind our experiences.
The professor I had for Astronomy, who brought up the whole fiasco about how Ophiucus makes astrology wrong a few years ago is a sun in Pisces-- "spacey", sure--very literally! But evidently, not very friendly towards spirituality :)

+The Leoquarian Good insights. I just want to say that what you wrote makes a lot of sense to me.
There is a dynamic process at work that is more fundamental than the behavior and classifications based on behavior and particular attitudes can be helpful but can also change a lot over time.

I couldn´t agree more. I´ve followed you a bit David but am glad to know we share this view. If you read Spanish it would be great you read the argentinians Eugenio Carutti and Alejandro Lodi on this.

How is it that I've never seen this one before! Love the overview after seeing your videos about each individual sign in extreme case.

Never through of signs as energy processes instead of personality archetypes, totally changes the way you read your horoscope!

interesting.. there's one thing that has puzzled me for some time and i thought that you might be able to provide insight for it.. why/how are their 12 signs over a year of about 30 days each when true signs aren't these sizes, such as 7-9 days for Aries and 45 for Virgo?

Zodiac signs are not the same as constellations. Perhaps this video will help answer your question: th-cam.com/video/FHGPCUogn-w/w-d-xo.html

Which book written by Dane Rudhyar goes the most in depth into the zodiac signs according to this "phase/energy process" interpretation? Is it the older book you quoted from in the video?

"The Pulse of Life" is Rudhyar's relatively short book that describes the zodiac as a cyclic process, and the energy process interpretations that I use are a variation on Rudhyar's ideas.
