It’s such a TH-cam masterpiece! I suddenly wanna see all of them climbing trees. Ondra finding no hands kneebars, the wide boys finding pure crack climbing techniques in those trees, Sharma meditating his way up. And last but not least I’m hyped to climb some trees myself. Maybe starting off a little less spectacular though 😅
what an amazing video, do you have any articles I could read up on gear/ how to get into this? I already do sport climbing and bouldering and would love to check if my local forest has any trees that could work?
As an arborist and rock climber it's amazing to see the two worlds collide. There's no feeling like being at the top of a 100ft douglass fir and feeling the sway back and forth as the wind takes you.
I didn’t even know arborists is a thing. But climbing trees is still somewhere deep in us. Nothing beats the feeling of being high up merged into the green realm of a generations old tree!
I am a climbing arborist, but I have never climbed a tree like these. I have a great respect for rock climbers. I feel like the grip holds are completely different between trees and rocks.
i also really enjoy seeing the cave diving/ climbing videos, the action adventure twins have some great vids on youtube if your interested..... as a tree climber myself i really like seeing how much rock/ rec climbing has changed the tree industry in my area. when you show up with a new era saddle and a waist full of gear the old guys heads explode haha
Dude nobody else is doing this stuff.. you're capturing some cutting edge content. It's definitely inspiring my youtube page and encouraging me to keep creating.
Absolutely! I climbed to the top of the first crack and took the obvious escape, but the link into the second pod would go. Really hard, but possible for sure. Very tough barefoot!
Without sounding too hyperbolic, I genuinely think the way you capture tree climbing is among some of the most beautiful things ever I think you've really carved out a niche for yourself with the tree climbing content, it's absolutely gorgeous, sends beautiful messages and it's incredibly unique
I came in thinking “30 mins to climb some trees? nah that’s too long” but as i kept watching I couldn’t look away… amazing content dude! everyone involved also looked soooo engaged and happy to be there. congrats!
this is pure art, I think we are in front of a new wave of climbing, maybe in a couple years a lot of ppl will be climbing trees like this, or maybe shorter trees with crashpads
Imagine how much awareness to our nature and it's urgent situation it would bring, if all climbers started climbing trees! But these particular trees are just something else to behold. I honestly couldn't believe what I was watching. Off widths and lay backs, 45° overhangs and roof climbing, in trees!?!
The video, the audio, the storytelling... this is just incredible. This is really art, I have nothing to criticize. Well done Noah. I cannot believe this has just 20k views and 1k likes. Deserves much much more.
I find it so fascinating that there are people out there that have taken one of my favorite childhood hobbies, climbing trees, and taken it to such an amazing level! I'm a rock climber now, and it's so awesome to see the two worlds coming together. Thank you for documenting this and sharing with us!
thanks for making the content, it brightens my mood tremendously everytime I see these trees and your name atatched to it. one day I Will come down to costa rica and beg you to take me climbing. Un abrazo
I remember climbing some huge tree in my step-grandmas yard, looked like an oak tree but bigger than any I’ve ever seen. I got all the way up to the top where I could see over some of the leaves. Her house looked pretty small from up there it was awesome. Almost slipped a few times up but it was worth it.
I was recommended to watch this video and it was amazing, I never thought that climbing would be this good to watch, you made the experience a lot better with your footage, it's very impressive, thank you for sharing this I would love to see more of this.
Have you given any thought to including a discussion of the potential damage to the tree that is caused by repeated climbing using rock-climbing techniques? It may not be a big deal in some trees, but in trees with lots of mosses and epiphytes it is difficult to climb without doing significant damage to the tree and to the other plants and animals that live in them.
YES! This is something we consider every day. To start we climb barefoot and with no chalk, obviously, to minimize impact. We also try and choose trees that already have bare/exposed hardened bark for climbing. If the tree has lots of mosses and epiphytes on its trunk, we don't climb it. There is certainly some impact, but even on the trees that we've been climbing for years the only noticeable impact we've seen is a "polishing" of the bark on the handholds.
Thanks for responding Noah. As a long-time tree climbing instructor I just wanted to make sure that people that see your video give this some serious thought. Where I live the big Douglas-firs, hemlocks, maples, and redwoods are frequently covered by mosses and fungi, and it is difficult to climb them without damage, even if you use rope techniques that minimize contact with the tree trunk and limbs. I have seen a video of one very well-known rock climber trying to ascend a redwood using the bark for handholds, and all he really accomplished was to damage the bark of the tree. Not something I would encourage. @@NoahKane
incredible video as always noah! its awesome to see that climbing is more than just ROCK climbing you're making me look at and appreciate plants in the same way i do rocks
This is the coolest video. UP there with adam ondras team of vids! Such agood climbing video. I dont climb since my cancer has messed up my body pretty bad but im getting strength back, maybe one day i can visit and attempt one of these beauties!
So inspiring! We have beautiful live oaks here in the south US which we love to climb here in FLA because of the flat topography and complete lack of rock to climb. I can only aspire to bring the same energy and attention to our own trees here as y’all have with your alien strangler figs. How amazing.
Look to the treeeees! This is so rad, I always looked at the guanacastes in Costa Rica for different routes to climb. I have been doing this in Yosemite and the sequoias for some time now. There are some amazing problems where your weight is sustained horizontally on the bark. Hawaii also has some root growth trees that are next level for climbing. I actually just saw one yesterday here in the Maldives that looks like a madhouse of fun. Seems like there’s an underlying world of tree climbing. Cool to see Costa Rica claiming some sick routes.
My coworker is from Venezuela and said he and the other arborists there would climb and cut massive mango trees with no ropes or security. The mango trees can be 50 Meters tall. This is done while using machetes and chainsaws. Not sure if I believe it, but I have witnessed his super human strength and dexterity first hand.
Really cool climbing, makes me wanna head to costa rica even though I am nowhere near that level of a climber. Had a little thing that I was wondering after seeing this; how do you take down the last piece of gear at the top of the tree? Downclimbing or is there some double rope descending options? Also, if you want some off-width people to try that you should contact the Wide Boyz, would be cool to see them try it.
Dude I’ve been climbing different trees after rock climbing all summer but none this cool. I was literally just thinking about trying to use some gear to climb some giant trees in my yard today. This looks like a lot of fun, I’ll have to try it.
I hope this serves a better ending....I wish I could trust the collab coincidence. I really hope it is a pure connection because I really dig the Doc. and work you guys bring.
Loving this! Will not repeat all the praise that is already in the comment section, I can only agree! I personally started climbing properly as a kid after enjoying tree climbing very much :) But, I do have a 'technical' question. Do you guys clean up the holes/holds prior to free climbing it? Isn't insect, birds, old nests an issue? Any possible venomous/poisonous inhabitants of the trees? :)
In Poland I climb the European Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica) European Beech 40m, also amazing trees with a pre-glacial history, in the USA also occur on the north-eastern coast.
as a child my favorite activity was climbing trees. this brings me back. thank you for that! Do you know the real life Tarzan? Ah nice french guy, he would lose his mind over your figg trees! And he i bet you guys would have a lot to talk about!! @LeoUrban

I SMASHED that like button twice. Wait, I mean three times ;)
Mala idea, los árboles como la fauna que habita en ellos corren peligro. Creo que con la roca debería ser suficiente. No des ideas por favor.
i saw a guy inside the trunk 6:32

Rock > Wood > Plastic u agree? Work has been crazy in the industry lately, we are losing our last "old" trees to extreme weather.

need the Wideboyz on the porcupine
Yes ! Someone needs to make this happen
YES
Absolutely! I climbed to the top of the first crack and took the obvious escape, but the link into the second pod would go. Really hard, but possible for sure. Very tough barefoot!

17:40 my heart was dropping. It's raining, so windy, and unlike a mountain the tree is swaying. That had to be a wild experience for Ethan.
this is pure art, I think we are in front of a new wave of climbing, maybe in a couple years a lot of ppl will be climbing trees like this, or maybe shorter trees with crashpads

Great job with the edit Noah!! Was awesome spending time with you guys in Monteverdi! Still amazed the drone didn't crash that day 😅
Thanks Catie! Still counting my blessings with that drone!
That Flaco part in the wind is sooooo sick...
so rad
these trees are like my childhood dream 😍

Some good rock climbing around Provodencia as well as trees
Your shots and film making in general are so inspiring. I love when art inspires more art that to me is so pure. Thanks Noah.

I hope this sport catches on. It's really neat to watch and see all these amazing trees!
Need the details on snakes, spiders, wasps etc

Holy shit 600k already!? It feels like just last week you had 10k. Well deserved, keep up the great work man!

You killed it, the shots, the commentary, the cut aways, you nailed it all. Be proud of this, you deserve it.
29:25 Some would say tree climbing is pretty arbitrary. I'd say it's pretty arbortrary
See what you did there...
Sick video, glad to see some support for your (arbor)trary passion!

thank you for sharing these amazing experiences
