    How do you fix the hypermobile tailbone

    So what is the treatment?

    Now I know that tailbone instability, also called hypermobility and dynamic ..., is the most common reason for tailbone pain. Also the necessity for a sitting X-ray. Also that very few clinics know of such requirement for good diagnosis. Thank you.

      Nice summary! Thanks! Exactly: Sitting-versus-standing x-rays of the coccyx are done to assess for whether there is abnormal movement of the coccyx while the person is sitting and therefore putting their body weight onto the coccyx (compared with the position of the coccyx while standing). I really wish my doctors had known about this. I suffered for 6 years. Every doctor I went to told me everything was normal. It got to a point where I was treated like I was just trying to get pills. I did extensive googling and found very little about tailbone pain in men. Then I ran across a lady’s blog. She talked about a website that had tailbone specialist. So I found one in my area. I am 3 months into post op of partial removal and it is still tender.

      Hi, has it improved after the operation? How long did it take to heal completely? Can you sit properly now with no pain?

    • @ArthriticThumb
      @ArthriticThumb ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@senac7171 I still have back pain. But the tailbone pain is gone. I wish I had learned about it long before I did. With that said, I cannot sit on hard surfaces for very long. I still keep a cushion in my truck. I case a restaurant has solid wood chairs.
      Healing took me longer than I think it should have. I didn’t do PT, I think if I had it might have been quicker.
      It was 10,000% worth it.

      What role did the cushion play vs the operation? I think the cushion could be enough for me

    • @ArthriticThumb
      @ArthriticThumb ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spolo123 The cushion was not enough. I had pain when I was sitting or standing. It was like putting a broom handle between my cheeks and leaning against it all the time. But it showed up normal in the scans.

      @starvingfatguy1577 sounds like you had the displacement thing. Will see if that worsen or else find a specialist!

    What about lateral movement? Would lateral movement while bike riding indicate PF issues?

    I have tailbone pain. I feel crepitus sometimes when I sit on my tailbone. How can I help this.

    • @TailbonePainDoctor

      I'm sorry to hear about your tailbone pain. For many people with tailbone pain if they are feeling a sensation of crepitus or clicking or moving at the coccyx while sitting (or during the transition from sitting to standing),, that can be caused by hypermobility/instability at the coccygeal joints. The way to evaluate for this would typically be via sitting-versus-standing x-rays. - Patrick Foye, M.D. www.TailboneDoctor.com

    Is it possible for the coccyx to still be hypermobile even in laying down? I have pain in both sitting and laying - which is what has confused the DRs I have seen (nobody has done a physical examination - just subjective).

      Sheena did you ever find out why? After 5 years of pain sitting, I finally found complete relief for about a year and then it came back with a vengance and it now affects me while I am laying down... I have not found any info on it, and no doctors seem to have an answer.

    Can it cause the legs and feet to swell?

  • @juliebarber7654

    Can it be common for the very last bone on the tailbone to be at a separate 70% angle than the other bones on a laying down pelvic CT? I’m trying to figure out if my major fall almost 5 years ago could have dislocated that one bone to now have the 70 degree angle because when I was young I was told my tailbone didn’t do the natural curve under (I now know I do in fact also have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome though so your explanation in this video how the tail bone could be turned the wrong way due to hypermobile issues completely makes sense now). Would that curvature have changed over time?
    I do have severe tailbone pain and lots of pelvic floor issues and severe lower back pain which I generally attributed to the fact my lower back went out for a week after childbirth with my oldest 26 years ago. But I had a major slip and fall causing major concussion issues almost 5 years ago now and have greatly deteriorated health wise. I’ve figured out some of the issues, but not for my pelvic area.
    I found your video because my pelvic floor therapist at first thought I had an abnormally short tailbone so I asked my urologist while I was there and we looked at a CT from Nov that shows the last small bone at a much sharper and almost disconnected angle so it got me wondering if that could be a real issue. I’d appreciate any advice or recommendation on if I should look into this further. Thank you!!

    My question for you Dr. Foye, can a tailbone with dynamic or hyper mobility be treated without surgery? Even when numerous injections, including the Ganglion Impar injections don't relieve 100 percent of the pain and eventually wear off? I know mine is unstable, I feel it move when I sit a certain way, when I cough or sneeze, I can feel it moving. I have had this pain for almost 3 years, with a recent MRI for both the spine and pelvis with "no dislocation" detected. I live in Massachusetts, and am at a loss for how to proceed. My doctor keeps suggesting I have the tailbone removed. But I am extremely hesitant about doing something like that.
