Washer Not Filling with Water - How to Troubleshoot

- Video showing you water happens to a water valve on a washer when you are on a well. The water valve will become plugged with debris and the washer will not fill or fills really slow. Some washers will pause in the middle of a cycle because it takes too long to fill and shuts the washer off.

Boom! On a well, little bits of debris clogging the screens bringing water to a trickle. Cleaned and it's back to full waterfall fill! TY!! Saved me so many other debugging steps.
Suggest a whole house water filter. Other appliances will be affected by debris.

Thank you ,I'll check mine too since sometimes it fills it right away and sometimes I have to shut off the faucet turn the machine on and then open faucet slowly and it works ,and sometimes that even doesn't work right away and I have to keep play with it .I guess I'll try your solution first ,it make sense that it might be clogged,thanks

worked like a charm for my hot water valve, thanks!! though the cold one is still filling at a snails pace. Gonna try to clean it more thoroughly, will see if that does the trick.

Hi Bill. I have a Maytag Washer 2000 series. The LF code has been going off sporadically for years, but then it would work fine next try. Now it just stays on and I have tried so many ways to fix it. I checked the hoses, cleaned the screens, made sure the drain line is in properly. I even changed the wiring harness and the water pressure sensor. The machine looks as though it is filling fine, but everything stops and the error code flashes about 10 minutes into the cycle. Any ideas what I should do next?

this was helpful. my whirlpool top load washer was stuck on spin mode for a few days now when turning it on the water runs and never fills up is this a easy fix, is it my timer,if so can u tell me how to fix it ??? thanks a bunch

What that filter catches will save the pumps. Not worth eliminating it unless you really want an expensive pump replacement

Where can I get a new filter mine is completely broken. Also could that be what is causing the washer to pause during the start of the wash cycle? once started if I don't watch it & go back the washer will have completely stopped like 2-5 minutes into the start of the cycle. it never even washes & the clothes will be soaked so we have to stay next to it for awhile to make sure it stays on. I have been having this problem for quite awhile & am really tired of it, it is very inconvenient.
Of all the nights when I decide to watch some F1 highlights, my wife DECIDES to do laundry. I mean she had ALL day. Comes into the living and asks me why our Kenmore isn't filling with water.
So here I am. This after I spent the entire day working on one of the cars. Ugh 😫

The washer I'm working on starts to agitate as soon as I turn it on with no water at all. Not one drop comes out. I read that it's the pressure switch that controls the fill level. I had one do the opposite and just keep filling till it overflowed onto the floor. That time the rubber line came off it. I'm suspecting that the switch is corroded and stuck in the up position this time, making the washer think it's full. Was looking for a video to confirm this before I take it apart.

Bad valve, pressure switch, main board, or actuator. Put the machine in diagnostic mode to get error codes and then run automatic/manual diagnostics to narrow down the issue.

I dont have well water, but washer is doing this. Gonna try changing screens and see how it goes. I should add that i tried doing a reset on the washer earlier today, but the only video i could find was in spanish, but it did start working for abit. But it wouldnt finish and started reading LF on the screen. That tells me there is a clog somewhere. The water that did come out had a horrid smell as well, which again tells me a clog. Im going to change both hot and cold screens just to get it done. I had no idea they had screens there. The city recently changed all water meters as well, which put sand in the lines for whatever reason and we had to run all house faucets to clear them, and again never occurred to me to run the washer lines as well, til now. So im praying this is the problem. Give an Update when i have it

This worked partially! I get hot water but the cold water will not run..
I checked water valve, ok, i checked voltage to valves cold has 120 volts , hot has no voltage , i replaced temperature switch, steel no voltage to hot water. ?
I have removed the water inlet valve and checked the ohms. still good. the filters are clean and all the lines are clear. the door locks, but still doesn't fill with either hot or cold. any suggestions?

Hi. I’ve checked mine it wasn’t block yet still it shows “water tap closed?” on the screen what could be the reason? As i have changed the wall and the pipe supplying water everything is fine. When i try to run on delicate (50 mins) and rapid (30 mins) after few mins above error appears. Please guide us.
I have a Roper washing machine that will not fill with cold water. I replaced the water intake valve and it still will not fill with cold water. I do hear the hum but no water enters the tub.
+Karren Borsa Make sure water is getting to the valve. Also make sure your pressure is not too high. That will prevent the valve from opening.
Hi. I don't have a well but I took off both hoses and pulled out the filters with my needlenosed pliers. They are fine. Still not the cure. My machine is at least 5 years old. Is it just time for a new one? Same as Adam Hanke, mine makes a little grinding noise, but no water. It was working fine earlier today. Thanks, Vicky...

What if the filter is so clean it looks new and the cold water is still not working???
probably then you may need to check the pump
tried that and filters/ screens were good. washer makes a weird noise when it should be filling with water???

we had a line bust in our neighborhood. Shortly after that there was black gunk in our lines.After clearing it out of our shower and sinks, we noticed the washer wasn't filling up. We took off and cleaned all screens and filters we could find which did have black goo. it is still not filling and just displays an error code. HELP!! I feel like we have tried everything but somehow missed something.
JD Wise May take several cleanings, run the hoses in the washer not hooked up to the valve to clean them out. Then clean the screens and try it.

Hey, mine starts filling the water and after 3 or 4 seconds it stops, there is water, everithing is ok with velve, it fils water but only for 3 or 4 sec, what could be the problem?

This isn`t what`s preventing mine from filling with water ,as it`s already been removed cleaned etc (and the washer changed!)..I`m sure the plumber turned something off an

TheHappyheart77 You'll have to check the ohm's of the water valve, maybe the valve is bad.
Bill Newberry ok ,I have someone coming out today (I`m arthritic and couldn`t turn anything looked at yesterday) ,so I`ll ask him to check that.It`s puzzling they came to correct/fix a water leak(elsewhere!) And my machine worked fine ,yet when he left it wouldn`t fill up with water to wash.Thankyou for ur response)

Little people know this behind thos screens is red little filters that are not showin in video then need to be plugged with a pin that's how small screens are behind thos ones I did it if you can not see threw its clogged up so do all
I checked that and there's no blockage for the cold water
Vishal Mooljee then the next step is too replace the complete water inlet valve because the solenoid is probably bad
New wells produce debris... they just do
mine is throwing an nf1 code for my Samsung front loader
I tried this and now there is not an error code but no water comes in.
