  • Does this count as a Pulsar GTX3584RS review? How could a Chinese turbo be an upgrade from a genuine Garrett? ~ probably someone in the comments section.

    Yeah you'll find the low tension JE rings need a smooth bore to seal properly. I've had the bores in my engines done with a few wipes of a 400 finishing stone after the initial bore. Makes quite a difference. The older/thicker compression rings need a rough bore to bed in. Do you have a catch can on the engine? Your compression rings not sealing is the reason your getting blow by, the oil ring doesn't help that. What Ecu are you using?

      @thirdgeargrind  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea it was definitely the finish of the original hone attempt that caused the blow by. No catch can currently atmospheric dump, will be recirculating to the intake.

      Update: Despite a better hone finish I still have approximately the same oil on top of the pistons after another break in period. Seems like my original theory on the ring design is likely true. The first and second compression rings still seal as compression across all 6 are good and the car makes power however that doesn't stop it from consuming the oil that it does and that brings me right back to my original theory that the oil control ring design is most definitely the issue here. I'm about to rebuild the GTI VRTs block with the OEM oil control ring setup with the exact same total process and if that does not produce the oil on top of the pistons that will 100% confirm the issue at hand.

      @@thirdgeargrind Surely your intake pipes must also have oil in them, and you are just getting a lot of oil blown out the breather. Either that or your turbo train is insufficient, or your turbo needs a restrictor.
      Even the most flogged out worn engines don't do what I saw in your video with oil puddling.
      A compression test will tell you if your ring seal is good. If its more or less the same across all cylinders ring seal is certainly not your issue. Oil will not get past the compression rings.

      @@iswinkels Breather is not recirc'd to the intake and there is zero oil in the intercooler pipes. Turbo already has 1mm restrictor, 10an oil drain.

    I'm a little late to the discussion, but have you checked your valve guide seals and guide play (regarding the oil consumption)?

    Sigh... I have a 2003 VW GLI VR6 with sports cam, limited slip diff, borla exhaust, bilstein suspension, bored to 2.9 L, United Mortor Sport tuned, light weight flywheel, with sprint boost button in the ash tray. This car drives like a 300 HP beast...when it's healthy. Now...sniffle...now it has a gasket out somewhere in the engine and burns oil, I wish you lived in the states so you could help me fix it. As it is....I'm going to sell it for $2000 on craigslist once I get my pictures up. The interior is clean with no issues and the exterior is clean except for a spot where the finish is peeling. BUT!!!! DO NOT TELL ME THAT I CAN BRING IT UP TO CANADA AND YOU'LL HELP ME FIX IT!!!!!!!!!! Cause I'll come up there....

    • @thirdgeargrind

      @@thirdgeargrind I love my car I absolutely would rather a Jetta VR6 lover got it than anyone else. Of course I'd rather keep it, but I'm in grad school and I can't fix it right now (no money). I'll make it to Toronto (the only place in Canada I've been before) and even though it has a misfire (accounts for loss of horse power) it still runs fin and never cuts out or stalls. Send me your email and I'll send you all the pics and stats. I'm wondering how much you'd charge to fix it (I could even help) if I drove it up to you?

      @@kamausullivan5182 Unfortunately I'm on the other side of Canada, Vancouver, BC. I'm about to do another gasket on a 24v jetta gli I recently bought, I would charge $1200 cdn in labor for the repair all in.

      @@thirdgeargrind Tell you what, that car is the love of my life and I'll pay you $2500 (US dollars) if you can fix it. If you can't fix it then you buy it off me for $2000 (US). I can send pics of how beautiful the interior is and the car also has a Clifford alarm system that lets you roll up/down windows, auto start, pop trunk/gas latch, from a 1/4 mile (line of sight uninhibited) away. Like I said, I love this car. Think about it. There's no rush, the car will take me back and forth to school until you decide. Then I can see how far it is to Vancouver.
