Glad to see someone else doing the swap and teaching others to do so I just want to mention if you have a really early model year car with the mk20 ABS/ESP unit the car wont go over 40mph or so due to the speed readings between the abs unit and tcu being incompatible. That would require you to replace the mk20 unit with a mk60 one which isn’t that big of a deal as the lines can be bent into shape if you’re careful , wiring consists of just swapping some pins around but the mk60 unit comes with either 2 pressure sensors and 2 esp sensors or 1 pressure sensor and 2 esp sensors but the best version has 1 pressure sensor and 1 esp sensor which combines the 2 that are known to go bad on occasion, the mk60 with 1 pressure sensor and 1 esp sensor is the best for ABS/ESP retrofits in older models as well since the wiring is the easiest. It also allows you to enable launch control in the tcu which is a whole lot of fun.
Brake booster and clock spring also needs swapped in this conversion? I have to do a MK20 to MK60 conversion on my newly acquired 99.5 GTI, would love more of your insight.
😍 that is so cool! I have a 2003 Golf TDI Auto and that transmission will need to be repaired or swapped somer that later. I might have to consider a DSG swap now! 😅
I didn't, the 4 speed power steer line routing is totally awful and not ideal for the DSG. I used the native mk4 DSG power steering line from the new beetle however you can also use an 09a 5 speed tiptronic power steering line. And then for ALH you just have to bend the end of the banjo fitting where it bolts to the power steer pump to fit properly.
This was interesting, I expected a larger improvement, but I think part of it is my commutes are long distance. I only noticed a 5% difference. If you're constantly in the city I would expect a 10% difference.

If anyone has any other questions don’t hesitate to ask, I’ve done a few of these swaps on 1.8t’s and tdi engines, even did a few VR’s

Were ya located an how much you charge with all parts included??@thirdgeargrind @@DrugwardTunes
@@thirdgeargrind yes they need to be swapped as well, as old mk20 does not have steering angle sensor

Great job !!!
great job
Well done! Please update with the list of parts(with part numbers??) :)
Done!
wow
Just curious I just got done doing this swap myself and was wondering how you routed the 4 speed line?

Nice swap.. love my NB with the dsg.. can I ask. How did you do the needle sweep on the mk4 dash?
VAG dash editor software and a cable
@@thirdgeargrindI thought it was only possible for Immo 3 Sport tachometer
@@momanskiakabiffbuz6004 this is correct, nearly forgot that immo 2 cluster are incapable of this
tryna find someone to install it is near impossible where i live ugh i want this done so bad
How do you make the cluster speedometer work ?
With the harness I made, I pinned it into a speed output from the new beetle mechatronic, to the t14a speedo wire and it worked flawlessly.
I sent you a email for the harness and instructions. Thank you!
Similar process if for example someone wanted to dsg swap a Auto mk4 1.8T?
Yes
@@thirdgeargrind glad to hear. That harness you mentioned you'd be selling, how much are you selling them for?
@@meshachmclean9837 $200 usd shipped anywhere in the lower 48.

what about us 1.9 BEW guys
Same process
Is dsg dq200?
DQ200 is a DSG, a very problematic 7 speed version. DQ250 is what we put in here, 6 speed wet clutch, a proven trans.
