    The tensioner might work with longer barrels and heavier projectiles. This is due the flimsy design of the FX liners, straw pea shooters, no other manyfacturer requires this and their barrels aren't as slug fussy as the FX. I own a ccople of FX's and is getting fedup with all the market add-ons you need to make the gun better. It is getting absurd, I have been testing some 177 slugs on my own channel, and the more I test the more I get peeved off with FX. I had a LW barrel made for the FX, it is beautiful, only 500mm but it shoots 100% better than any 177 FX barrel. (I have the 500mm and 600mm). The LW wins hands down, no need for add-ons, no need for tentioners as the barrel is solid. No drooping if you add a heavy silencer either. I still love my FX, no other gun is as versatile, both in 177 and 22, but the additional marketing stuff is mind blowing nonsence. My HW100, AA EV2, AA HFT500 will kick the FX out the park any given day. This was obvious at the Worlds Hunter Field Target champs in Hungary... guess how many FX guns were used? NONE.

      Hi Gert
      Thanks for sharing your experiences! I really appreciate it.
      In this particular case I feel like I have spent money on nothing. But I still wonder if it will make a positive difference in the 700 mm liner with heavier slugs. I kinda doubt it though. But this is explained in fx homepage, so I guess that I should have listened 😃
      But I still think about the recent results of Ted Bier. A 0.38 group on 100 yards. That is impressive - but I also saw the amount of slugs in different brands and sizes that he had.
      Also Im thinking of RMAC where FX is heavily represented in the top of the list. I know that there are mainly FX'S in the comp, but there are other brands aswell and seriously good shooters. I remember a national team member of SA with a Daystate. So the results of the FX'S must be superior. And if the guns that you mention are so much better - why arent they winning competitions like RMAC?
      And thinking about my own groups - 1,1 cm on 75 m and 2,2 cm at 100m. I cant really see how it can be done much better.
      I am interested though in the LW barrels. They seem much less picky with ammo and all the advantages that you mention.
      My question is:
      From the national team member with the Daystate at last years RMAC, it sounded like you will only get 300 shots before you have to clean the barrel. And right after cleaning you have to fire alot of shots before the barrel is seasoned. That sounds a like a bit of a hazzle.
      What are your experiences with the cleaning cycle of the LW barrels?

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@VikingAirgunner Hi Viking. in the 22 calibre and bigger FX has no competition. Lauren Parsons shoot Daystate, she is the current World FT champion with a Daystate. None of the RMAC guns are 177, again FX not good in the smaller calibre. FX does good where there is no restriction on power. The benchrest worlds are dominated by Steyr, Ft worlds the same, FX doesn't feature where power limitations and calibre limitations are present.
      LW barrels are more aggressively rifled, depending on the pellets you use, cleaning is not an issue, cleaning consists most of the time shooting a pellet cleaner through. FX are the winners here by far, the smooth twist barrel doesn't accumulate lead at all.
      FX is the current market leader, but the competition is closing in quickly, RMAC was won with a Priest a year or two ago. The adjustability is superior in the FX, but all the aftermarket things you need to buy is rediculous. The sponsored guys get all this stuff for free... Me , I am a salaried employee, I can't afford this stuff and I love this sport, spend a bucket load on every new FX liner, barrel, bag rider, Element scope etc. I just reached a place in my life where enough is enough. I am not spending another dollar on stuf that is most of the time either marketing nonsence, or could have been in the original product. How many FX owners buy them to shoot "standard" pellets?
      I tilt my hat for FX, they are making mega bucks in the process, their R&D is superior to any other air rifle manufacturer. I just can't afford all the "needed" extras anymore. It is a bottomless pit.
      I spend more than 12 months testing jsut about every darn pellet and slug available to me, just to realize that you can shoot just about any slug with decent accuracy if you spend the time fine tuning your gun. My HW100 worlds gun took only 3 tins of pellets to find one that was brilliant...
      How many FX owners have the time to put into testing that you do? They simply buy the "next" gadget the TH-camrs post... There is only 1 youtuber a fully trust with his feedback. (You are going to become no 2 with the great work you do - please keep it up).

      Gert you nailed it. Every 6 months there is a newer gadget thats just better and you must have it. For the amount of money we spend in these fx impacts it should be the best it could be out of the box. Fx should rather focus on their qaulity control wich is 0 to none. 11 mm at 75 meters is probably as good as you will get with the .177 . You might get better in an enclosed range with no wind but that’s not how most of us shoot . Thanks for all your efforts on testing .

    Barrel tensionners are more effective on higher calibers shooting higher power with more vibrations. On .177 you wont affect the harmonics that much since its very light recoil and vibrations anyway.

  • @nonickname6154
    @nonickname6154 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Peter - thanks a lot for the video. The only way I can achieve tighter groups for my 177 Mk2 600mm plus the FX barrel tensioner kit - is to use the harmonic tuner in addition. By the way, I have used about 2000 NSA12.5g slugs through this combination from ca. 940 fps to 990 fps, and in the end concluded I couldn't make it work. Also couldn't get reasonable groups without the barrel tensioner kit. However using the NSA 15.0gr slugs plus tensioner kit plus harmonic tuner delivered OK groups. Not tried the VAN slugs yet but will do after all the NSA 15gr are used.

      It is very much in tune with the info on the FX USA homepage that we will see the difference with heavier ammo.
      In my experience it is just such a big work to find the right position for the barrel tuner - but if I didnt change/test so many different slugs it would be one hour and a whole bunch of slugs and it would be settled 😃
      But very nice to know that the barrel tuner has a positive effect, so thanks for sharing mate 🤗

    Whats the difference from using the tensioner and using a barrel band from Blackarts design to stiffen the barrel

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I havent tried the barrel bands but the way I see it, the bottle is far from 100% round, so when using a barrel band on an Impact it will not have a positive effect on accuracy.
      On a gun like the Wildcat it would be a different case.
      And the barrel tensioner stiffens up the whole barrel while the barrel band still allows the barrel to vibrate between the supported places.
      Not saying what is the best and from my video you can see that the results with the barrel tensioner on the 600 mm 177 was not a succes for me.
      Will be testing on the 700 mm liner when I get the heavy liner and hopefully get the heavier slugs to perform well 🙂

    • @nephtalilucero8084
      @nephtalilucero8084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VikingAirgunner I have the barrel band and it stiffens that barrell tremendously. I have it with the new FX harmonic barrel Tunner. Still testing it and getting good results. @@nephtalilucero8084 Somebody asked me about the best combination of accessories. Made me think about how many variables we have to consider.
      So my thought was:
      When I get the right combination between reg, hammer, valve, liner, ammo, barrel tension, barrel tuner/no barrel tuner, liner sleeve/no liner sleeve, scope, bipod - my accuracy will be exceptionel 😃
      So what I mean is that there are so many ways of setting up a gun, and there are many good and exciting ways to do it, and it is important to be open minded 🙂

      @@VikingAirgunner Thank you for your welcome, I have looked at almost the same channels as you, being confused is easy especially when there is so little 4.5mm content, so your channel is good sent. About the fx moderator, I have been told that tube/shroud that holds the moderator is empty in the DK version . I have thought about getting the Saber Tactical Arca Swiss Rail 2, just not decided yet if I should get the one with 3 holes in the bottom or the 2 hole version (vibration vise) I could imagine the vibrations from the 3 hole version being greater than the 2 hole (when bipod is not used, free hand shooting) I can see that you have the bipod about the same place as the 2 hole that is Picatinny at the end.

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zephyrold2478 It is true that both the shroud and the moderator are empty inside, but they have a good sound reduction. I have shot my gun without them both and like that it is very loud. Like in this video with just the barrel tensioner and a Huma moderator it is loud. I dont know if a bigger moderator would help, but Im not sure that I would like the looks of the gun with the barrel tensioner and a Sumo 🤔 But I guess that is individual 🙂
      The Arca Swiss rail that Im using is super steady and I like the small piece of picatinny where I have my chrono, so I can use it at any time without having to think about vibrations. Hanging the chrono on the barrel Is a no go 😃
