    Thanks for showing your experiments with the new "heavy" liner Peter. I got a 700 mm liner home here last Monday and am looking forward to the warmer weather (and probably more wind) so that my old arthritic fingers don't freeze to the trigger. 😃
    Personally, I'm looking forward to running some 20 grains through to see if the new "heavy" liner can stabilize their flight down towards the target.

      Mine 700 mm will arrive tomorrow and Im actually expecting more 8f that than from the 600mm.
      I will probably not go to 20 gr, but I have a vision that the 16 gr Zan will be magic 😎

    I suggest another screw in the bottom of the target. Just one on top allows the target to pivot upon impact which can have a serious effect on group size. Watch the target bounce around shot to shot in the video. Always enjoy your videos from over here in Tennessee, USA.

      @@paavokaleva I agree. Definitely shooting at the same spot. It will however make your groups larger than they actually are if the paper moves around. Similar comparison would be canting your scope a little differently each shot.

      The thing is that shooting the bigger calibers requires a hunting licence in Denmark. This means taking a course over a full winter.
      And the bigger calibers can not be shot in the garden like the 177 and it has to be registered and locked up in a safe.
      So saddly quite a hazzle.

    Nice video, I might be wrong but isn't the heavy liner meant for and works better with larger calibres i.e. .25 and .30 running slugs ?

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea about the heavy liner is to be able to shoot heavier slugs and in the 177 it has been a challenge to make anything above 13 gr to fly aswell as the 13 gr, so as you can see here, the 15 gr NSA imidiately grouped better in the heavy liner than it ever did for me in the superior liner🙂

      Thanks JP 🙂
      I will give you the short answer here and go deeper into the issue in a future video - planning a Q&A video in a near future.
      First thing is to wait for the gun to get the same temperature as the surroundings. It can be quite inconsistant for a short while if you take it directly from the house to the garden. Will explain more in the video.
      Secondly the ammo might like a different velocity than in the summer. Might not be much, but it can usually be solved with some fine adjustments 🙂
      And thanks for a question to answer in the video 🙂

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The liner is the barrel and the sleeve is a carbon pipe that is made to stiffen up the liner.

      Im sorry if my answer seemed arrogant. It was not my intention 🙂
      The subject is interesting, but after my test of the Lothar Walther barrels I have not felt the urge to explore different types of barrels. Or choke/non choked. The urge might come at some point.
      I have a friend who has done it recently, but I am not sure of the results for the time being.
      I have a feeling that there is something happening around fx and their barrels. If will be a completely new type or a barrel made for specific ammo, I dont know, but if I am right it will defenately be interesting to explore.
      And if it comes with or without choke 🙂
      If one was to cut down a liner it would makes sense to use a 700 mm heavy liner and reduce to 600 mm. This would limit the weight of the ammo, since the 600 mm liner will not stabilize anything much heavier than 15 gr. Yes, people are shooting heavier slugs than that in 600 mm liners, but my experience tells me that 15 gr seems to be the max weight to stabilize for supreme accuracy.
      So with my focus on 100 m I would not image the lighter slugs being the right way.
      My wish would be to test different twist rates and perhaps unchoked - 700 mm liner 🙂

      @VikingAirgunner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I hope that there be a noticeable difference in stability when shooting the 16 gr later with the 700 mm.
      Usually the groups open somewhere past 75 m, but the stability seems much better.

    Good groups any way
    I have a feeling that H&N slugs, ZAN in different sizes can tighten the groups.
    funnily the 177 slugs are over bore compared to their .22 counterparts that come in .217 & .218 sizes.the pic of slug pushed thru the S Heavy liner bears the evidence i guess.
