OK THANK YOU. You saved my butt. Contractor cleaning our driveway to patch pot holes. High power blower shoots rocks at the car and broken window. I used shipping tape to hold cardboard on and tape is on the paint. My wife is NOT HAPPY with me. So when the window is replaced we will use your method of gasoline and quick cleanup to restore paint from my bad decision.
Bro, I thought the same thing I tried rubbing alcohol it first and I thought gasoline so way to do it and you’re probably right I’m gonna go try it but I’m glad you said it. Hopefully my paint won’t come off too. Thank you.
I inherited a 2003 Buick Century with only 48K miles on it. However, the previous owner duct taped the drivers side back window up due to malfunctioning window regulator. It has since been fixed. This is the information I needed. I tried various residue removers, but they have been insufficient. I guess I’ll have to go borrow some gasoline from a neighbor as they own lawnmowers, and I don’t. Thanks for a very helpful video!
Thank You. My brother did this and now I get the joy of cleaning it up. Microfiber towel will minimize the the potential scratching and subsequent polishing .
yea i was stupid and put electric tape over the sunroof edges, typical BMW leaking sunroof and i tried getting it off with a razor blade and no luck this saved me dude! thank u, also my buddy said rubbing alcho worked to
Thank you so much for this information. Now, I can remove 2 years of duct tape from the top of car.(My sunroof shattered and I've had to use 3M masking tape and a heavy duty clear shower curtain to cover my sunroof on a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta)
This worked perfectly! Thank you! For some odd reason this info was impossible to find online. This should be the first method that’s mentioned. Probably afraid of safety concerns.
Careful, I tried this on the side of an enclosed trailer with tape residue and the gasoline messed up the sheen on the paint. You can see exactly where I rubbed it years later.
Yes I recommend only on automotive factory finishes and to clean afterwards with soap and water. If your shine is dull some micro finishing compound will bring back the shine. Got to remember putting duct tape on a vehicle’s paint in never a good idea to begin with. Thank you for the feedback
Hi Thank you so much. I ended up using white gas from my camping stove. It was easier for me than pumping gas into a gas can for me. just a suggestion.
Awesomeness. So a good while back, year plus, I ran across some white paint in the road some weird way. It splatter in the fender wall and down side of my black car. What best, easy way to remove that paint?
Thank you so much 😊 you solved my problem I was embarrassed to drive my Mercedes around looking like ashes flying off of my car from that withered duct tape 😢😂
actually duct tape was my rear windscreen for 6 months while i was waiting for a new rear windscreen (i have a 5th gen accord wagon, the rear windscreens are very hard to come by) but alas.... that is why i am here...
It can, so use it at you own risk as stated. That said many people have great results as I did. Factory paint finishes only and clean with soap and water afterwards. Also may need some compound to bring shine back
I went a little crazy with duct taping my broken back windshield and tape residue not just on the glass and the window but on the back light 😂 is it safe to use the gasoline on the plastic back light cover?
I used Packing tape on sunroof of a 2013 with factory paint. The residue is super sticky even with all the recent rain here. Would this work? I read possibly white vinegar.
Good tip. I'm actually curious what car it is? I use a PPF film to seal a badly leaking Volkswagen Tiguan panoramic roof. Apparently a common Vw issue and insanely expensive to repair properly.
Thanks a lot. I hope it will work on Matt finish as well as i have Matt grey paint on my motorcycle tank and just removed the duct tape but a lot of hard residue is left on it
Just like any chemical, use it at your own risk. I stated that if you don’t feel comfortable don’t do it. I never have a problem over many years. Just wash the vehicle right afterwards.
You have to use this method at your own risk. I have many people do this judging by my comments with great results. Factory paint should not be a problem but just test in a small area then wipe clean with soap and water. Can dull the surface requiring some compound. Been using this method a long time with no problems.
two years of tape on my moonroof can finally come off!!!!! THANK YOU
Lol, no problem! Thanks for the comment

Lol, no problem, just after the remove the residue use clean water the soap to clean off the gas residue as well.
Thank you. This video helps me a lot. Duct tape residue no more!
Glad it helped! Thanks for the feedback, really appreciated.
Bro, I thought the same thing I tried rubbing alcohol it first and I thought gasoline so way to do it and you’re probably right I’m gonna go try it but I’m glad you said it. Hopefully my paint won’t come off too. Thank you.
Sure, no problem. Factory paint only i would recommend this on. Try a small test spot first then immediately wash with soap and water.

No problem 👍

Thank you for the feedback really appreciated!
Gas shouldn't hurt the paint either cause I always get gas drips on the side under the gas tank filler tube. Great idea, thanks! 🙏
Sure no problem and appreciate the insight!
Worked like a charm! Thanks.
Sure, no problem! Thanks for the feedback
I'm using gasoline to remove 11 year old PPF from a hood. It's working!!!!! With plastic razor. Will have to buff and polish but it works!!!!
Yes it does! And a great idea to buff and polish afterwards for the best gloss shine.
Looks like the gasoline works well. Thanks for the tip.
No problem 👍
Just saw your video, thank you for the information that really worked. Keep up the informed videos, they save us lots of money.
Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback!
Genius and u just saved me so much aggravation - ty so much
Thank you very much! Really appreciate that and glad it helped you out.

Thank you!! Who would've thought GASOLINE? Yes, I used duct tape on my car and want it off. Will definitely try.
Sure, no problem!
Would this also work with diesel?
Edit: Just tried it and seems to work well. Residue comes off after a few wipes.
I don’t know never tried it
I tried alcohol to remove duct tape residue. Really didnt do much except smear it. A dab of gasoline took it right off. Thanks!!!
Yep, me too, this is the best way, just wash the area good afterwards.
Hi Thank you so much. I ended up using white gas from my camping stove. It was easier for me than pumping gas into a gas can for me. just a suggestion.
Hey, no problem, thanks for the extra tip, maybe it can help others as well.
Thank you! Will use on my Mercedes C43. Has been sitting at Copart with their tape.
No problem, good luck!
Awesomeness. So a good while back, year plus, I ran across some white paint in the road some weird way. It splatter in the fender wall and down side of my black car. What best, easy way to remove that paint?
That can be a good question for an auto body shop, they can steer you in the right direction.
Thank you so much 😊 you solved my problem I was embarrassed to drive my Mercedes around looking like ashes flying off of my car from that withered duct tape 😢😂
Lol, no problem, glad it helped!
That’s crazy because my Mercedes has the same thing we’re both on the same boat 😂
Great job well done. What about plastic car finishes? Got it all over the back of my jeep where the glass broke
Thank you! Appreciated. I don’t recommend it for plastic
Thank you 🎉 I wasted an hour with Goof Off and WD 40 before I found this video.
You're welcome, glad it helped!
Will this still work even if the tape had been on for over a month?
Yep, even years
@@motorcarnut thanks!
@noahcurlzz8613 no problem
This was insanely helpful! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thank you just what i needed help with same tape also. Thanks you.
Glad I could help!
Awesome! Would this work the same on Gorilla tape?
Yes it will, just take off the top layer of tape and the residue will come off with this procedure.
Thanks, I just removed the duct tape glue on my car.
Thanks again
Excellent!, Thanks for the feedback, appreciated!
Did you use gasoline or kerosene?
It’s in the video, gasoline
It works very well !!!!
Thanks a lot for the tip
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment!
Will it work with packing tape on car?
Try it on a small spot and see. May have to peel the shiney part of the tape first.
actually duct tape was my rear windscreen for 6 months while i was waiting for a new rear windscreen (i have a 5th gen accord wagon, the rear windscreens are very hard to come by) but alas.... that is why i am here...
Yes, give it a try, it works great.
Big thumbs up!! 👍🏽 thank you!!
Thank you too! Appreciate the feedback
Great video man my scat pack is looking real nice now 😁😁
Awesome bro! Thank you too!
Will this mess up your paint
It can, so use it at you own risk as stated. That said many people have great results as I did. Factory paint finishes only and clean with soap and water afterwards. Also may need some compound to bring shine back
I went a little crazy with duct taping my broken back windshield and tape residue not just on the glass and the window but on the back light 😂 is it safe to use the gasoline on the plastic back light cover?
That I am not sure, may damage the plastic. You can try a small area just to see if it works, but that's up to you.
I used Packing tape on sunroof of a 2013 with factory paint. The residue is super sticky even with all the recent rain here. Would this work? I read possibly white vinegar.
For the glue part not the shiny tape itself, Yes it will, just make sure to wash the residue off after you finish.
Thank you so much. Your advice saved my bacon. 👍
Glad I could help! Thanks
Can you also do those in a scotch tape residue or Steakers residue?
Yes
Hey...what if I had 2 layers of gorrila tape ? & it's been baked by sun for around a YEAR" now ...thanks
.....just like the video
If the top piece of tape comes off and leaves just the sticky or dry residue it should work. Just make sure you clean it after with soap and water.
Thank you! what kind of soap
Regular automotive soap nothing special.
Thank you! it works.
You're welcome! Appreciate the feedback!
Good tip. I'm actually curious what car it is? I use a PPF film to seal a badly leaking Volkswagen Tiguan panoramic roof. Apparently a common Vw issue and insanely expensive to repair properly.
Thank you! It was a VW Tiguan. Most of the times the water tubes get loose and just have to be re glued to stop most leaks on the particular vehicle.
Aucune solution de réparation c’est un problème connu chez VW sur tout les modèles tiguan touran sharan … c’est le châssis du toit qui se casse
will this damage a tinted window if done on the tinted side?
Yes
While you were rubbing the fabric on duct tape i was feeling teeth sensation and tingling haha.
Just like the finger nails on a chalkboard?
Brilliant, really looks like magic
It does work good
I want to use this for my windows, however my windows are tinted. Will it remove the tape residue and the tint? Or will the tint be okay?
Aftermarket tint? Usually tint is applied to the inside of the glass?
i usually take off stickers on paint with rubbing alcohol or baby oil but the sticker in this car wouldn't come off till i use your advice ty
Great! Glad it helped!
Will this work even if my duct tape is not dry but like super adhesive still?
Yes< just do a little bit first to make sure and don't forget after you remove the glue clean with soap and water afterwards to protect the paint
After used the gasoline to remove all that you need to clean it with soap and hot water and polish the paint
Yes, correct!
Thanks a lot. I hope it will work on Matt finish as well as i have Matt grey paint on my motorcycle tank and just removed the duct tape but a lot of hard residue is left on it
If it's a factory finish it should just try a small spot first
Thank you!!! Brilliant 😊
You're so welcome!
Thank You , Thank You !!!😁
Sure, no problem!
Doesn’t the gas thin out the clear from the paint and start to fade the paint on the car later on ???
Just like any chemical, use it at your own risk. I stated that if you don’t feel comfortable don’t do it. I never have a problem over many years. Just wash the vehicle right afterwards.
Thanks for this suggestion.
No problem!
You're the greatest. Thanx so much
You just saved me 25$ :)
You're welcome!! That’s what I’m trying to do. Save people money!
Does this work with transparent scotch tape that is stuck on the car?
For the sticky glue yes, but the tape itself would have to be peeled off first.
@@motorcarnut This advice really helps me. Thanks!
@criss6945 no problem
@@motorcarnut got it.
@juncapulong1911 great
Quick simple and to the point
Thanks
Thank you so much dude you just saved me hours of work 👍
I’m glad! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment!!!!
Thank you from Sweden!
You are welcome!
Worked perfectly
Good as new. Appreciate it bro
No problem 👍Thanks for the feedback!
You saved my day thanks😅
Glad I could help! Appreciated!
which product used to remove the duct tape sir?
Gasoline
Can i use diesel?
I don’t know, never tried it
i had no petrol so i used a can of armani aerosol and it worked a treat
Great! Don’t know what that is but glad it worked
@@motorcarnut im guessing something to do with ethanol/alcohol - great tip dude 👊🏼
@daysgone2997 ah, gotcha! Thanks
Thank you
Gonna try this today
Thanks,
Thank you sir !
Sure, No problem!
What, gasoline. I would never have used gasoline. I thought my paint would go as well. Thank you, thank you! 😂😊❤
You are so welcome! Just clean it off afterwards with soap and water to get rid of the residue
I just saved myself 150 bucks 👍🏽
Awesome!
Broooo you're a life saver
Thank you!
What about if the duct tape is inside the car? Would this work still?
It can but I would do that with all doors open wearing a mask because of the fumes
Fantastic!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you soooooo much!!!
You're welcome!
Thank you very much 👍
You are very welcome
that was amazing!!!! omg!
Thank you! Appreciated
Does it work for blue tape too?
This is for the residue so I'm not sure, never tried on that.
Would that strip the coating on the paint?
You have to use this method at your own risk. I have many people do this judging by my comments with great results. Factory paint should not be a problem but just test in a small area then wipe clean with soap and water. Can dull the surface requiring some compound. Been using this method a long time with no problems.
This really helped me out. Subbed and liked.
Thanks for the sub! Really appreciate the feedback!
