  • Ever want to play Dragon's Lair under RetroArch but couldn't figure out how to make lr-daphne work? Now you can. By default, building #DirkSimple will also generate a libretro core; when used with RetroArch, you can point it at your lair.ogv and enjoy the RetroArch overlay, controller support, save states, etc.
    Make sure that the data directory in the root of this repo is copied to your RetroArch frontend's system directory, under a directory named DirkSimple.
    This is a dirt-simple FMV/laserdisc game player. It uses the original footage from the supported games but not their ROMs.

    Someone needed to do this because the current state of these games’ availability and preservation is absolutely shameful

    Do the movie files need to be .ogv? Does it support other extensions? Also, does it only support 2 games?

    It is very good, but the good thing would have been to make it compatible with Singe2 games, which is a program that works exactly the same as this core.

    Maybe it's my unfamiliarity with LaserDisc games (Never even seen one IRL) but I do not understand how these work, and watching the video I don't understand either. Does it just play the video files? Like... I don't get it.

      Yes, you press a button or direction at the appropriate time. Arguably the worst games ever but looked great in the Arcades back in the 80's.

      These games worked on a timed input system that would be considered quick time events today, though the term wouldn't exist for another 15 years. Being expensive arcade games (and with event bugs), there was little margin of error, so you effectively had to get the timing down in advance before seeing the prompts.

    I dont understand are you playing the game ? there no Sound effect when moving the direction. so is hard to tell if your playing the game or just watching a film. instead have control.

    Hi, I have all the games files for daphne, the video file in ogg, the rom, the sound and the text file. Do you know if dirksimple takes ogg instead of ogv? When I open the ogg, it opens scummvm windows for some reason.

    Any news on melonDS being updated? It's been quite a while and I want to mainly use this core for getting Achievements on DS games.

    It's imperative to support the game ROMs in the future, reimplementing their logic ex novo is a waste of time and it never works well as the originals, there will always be bugs to iron out.

    In my memories of arcades, laserdisc games display the actions to be performed, logical because otherwise unplayable... I see that this is not the case on this emulator...

      @BurnLikeAFlame ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it showed these flashes of light you had to quickly respond to, like the one that shows in the hole in the bricks @1:48. So the emulation is fine.
      Wasted so many quarters watching Dirk die back when this game came out...

      @@BurnLikeAFlame No, I'm talking about cliff Hanger. In the arcade game, it indicates when to press the keys. 3:42
