RetroArch + LaunchBox Integration = 5 Minute Front End Emulation Setup!

- Venerable front-end tool LaunchBox promises to beautify your gaming collection - but nobody likes setting up emulators for these launchers. Thanks to "Built-In" RetroArch support, you can get your emulator files displayed and running inside of five minutes!
I'll also show you some "gotchas"; like dealing with Arcade games that don't run; as well as discuss BIOS requirements for certain systems.
Note: I am aware this video is longer than five minutes - but the time it takes for the viewer to download, install and get the first set of games running should take even less time. See chapter jumps for break down.

If it makes you feel any better it was a huge help! Trying to tighten down my set up for streaming and this is amazing. I wasnt excepting it to auto import my normal pc games and getting my roms was a breeze

easy fix for arcade folder and all emulator associated is to move it inside a "fbneo" folder

How can we tune up the graphics settings? I remember being able to do it on RetroArch which was really nice.

@@Darkuni Haha....well you could of fooled me, both you and ETA were the only ones that helped me at least get my foot in the door on emulation on the PC. I have been out of the emulation world not to mention gaming in general for many years now since my accident, so I appreciate your dedicated time it took to show us how to get it set up. Thanks!
@@brandonguindon1056 You may entertain looking at Emulation Station Desktop Edition. ES is available on every platform known to man; Pi, hand held emulators, etc. Once you learn that package? You take it with you ...
@@Darkuni I'm a little familiar with ES, I've used it before I liked it. So you're saying I can install it on my laptop? At no cost? 😄 if that's true then I'll be pretty busy tonight setting that up. Does it come installed with anything? Or it's just a clean platform basically

Hi, so when i try to run ANY rom from launchbox it just gives me a dark, but not black, screen and just sits there. All emulators are using libretro.
Only emulator that works for me is the n64 I can't get any other ones working
Will this work for older pc games? I'm trying to download global operations that I used to play as a kid and I can't figure it out 😭
I really only messed around with it for a bit and only with the confines of Retroarch - not an old PC game.
I've got version 12.8 on windows 11 and all my roms are playing slow. Any advice?

I was wondering too. I just got Retroarch set up with all the controls and box art to my liking for my retro consoles. I already use Launchbox for DOS/Windows 3.1 games and I plan on using MAME with it but if I can easily get all the Retroarch stuff to transfer over with all the settings intact, I'd rather have one launcher but don't want to redo all the controls, shaders, box art, etc.

While in the middle of a game how do you access things like shaders? I know ots from retro A but how do I get to it from within a game?

@@Darkuni I did still nothing... I forgot I'm in windows I finally figured out had to pull up the keyboards and use alt and F1 ...crazy... Just not use to it

Don’t know if you’ll reply but I was playing Pokémon Platinum DS version on Retroarch for a while, then I tried it after installing Launchbox and it’s playing as a new save
Why wouldn't you expect that to happen? Saves are per emulator ....

How do you change shaders in launchbox ?
I'm really not a launch box user. I wish I could help you more. This was sort of a one-off video.
Maybe I'm just unlucky but the auto download and install retroarch shown in the video always get stuck and hangs for me. Waited 30 mins plus and just stays about 10% done.
They sucks ... Let us know if you figure it out?
@@Darkuni going through manually adding retroarch but that seems to hanging up downloading missing cores. Went to retroarch itself and downloaded every single core as someone on reddit seemed to think that would help.
No joy so far

@@madduey6155 I can say a friend of mine had it all working on his Shield TV Pro. Used an external 1TB drive. Pretty slick. I've never done it personally though.
@@Darkuni I bought a 5tb drive downloaded 100's of gigs of content only to find hyperspin from the play store is not compatible with the new shield pro and won't install

I honestly have no idea. Never set it up on either of those platforms.

The RetroArch integration was a big sales feature. Just wanted to see how it worked :)

Yeah I know. The process itself takes about 5 minutes but I always like to discuss and highlight things that you might run into, or alternative situations and that adds more timw than the "happy path" version.
