While in the Marine Corps, whenever one of my younger Marines' wives would give birth I would give them the assignment to listen to this song while really listening to the lyrics without any distractions. They would always say something like "Staff Sergeant, why would you do that to me?" Because you really should take the time to appreciate the love of your child and that child's mother.

That song emotionally cripples me. I am the last (by 9 years) of 6 kids so I am The Baby. My mom is still here at 82 but she is starting to fade a little and I dread the day I get that call.
Try hearing this song for the first time while your driving at midnight. Lets just say I had to pull over and compose myself before I could continue on my journey home. The song leaves you guessing if she made it but if you watch the video through your tears you see the mom made it. she's the one running to catch up to her son and love of her life.

This song always tears me up. It came out not long after my mom died, and we danced to it in her memory at my wedding. I just started checking out some of your videos and thank you for sharing such a touching and authentic moment. Even though the mother does make it, just the thought of him losing her is very moving. We can all relate.
I was caught off guard myself. My wife of almost 30 years passed suddenly 5 years ago (she was 47). She was more of the country fan, but over time I found that I liked quite a few country artists as well. We went to see Tim and Faith in concert twice, and they were awesome. Anyway, I haven't listened to this song for a long time and by the third verse, I couldn't stop crying (and here I thought I was past all that).
