Tim McGraw was my very first concert ever. I was 14 and went with my 20-year-old sister, who is a massive fan. I still remember the first time she played this song, I cried (dying in childbirth is a massive fear of mine) so my sister showed me the music video to reassure me, the "girl" survives, running after Johnny and their son as they go fishing in the very last scene. God granted his request. The song still makes me ache in my chest. I cannot imagine losing my husband. I just can't.
The video is just an interpretation of the song. The actual lyrics at the end do not indicate whether the "girl" survives or not. The moral of the story is to count your blessings and live each day as if it is your last.
Hi, I'm Richard. I cried all through this song. I met my "girl" during my second year of college. She was everything I ever dreamed of in one person, smart, funny, beautiful, Godley, cool, mysterious amazing.. We started dating in May, I asked her to marry me in June (there is so much more to this story) and we were wed in January. The idea of such a one being taken from my life shakes me to my core. Happily here it is 45 years later, and she is still the reason I smile all the time. I love watching your reactions to songs I love. You are such a romantic...
My parents met in college too and, after two months of dating, they eloped and then a few months later they were married in a church. To this day, 44 years later, they are still happily married and they don't just celebrate one anniversary every year, they celebrate two :)
There's definitely nothing wrong with you and if there is, then there's certainly something wrong with me as well lol. I refuse to listen to this song with anyone else around, cause I'm a baby when it comes to sad stuff like this.
We are all human and like it or not our hearts can be touched but such emotions. FYI makes me cry every damn time more then twenty years of listening to it.
In the actual video, in the ending...mom and dad walking by lake with their son. She lived. Very emotional song. Music effects me the same way. Have a great day.
Kellie Jackson, came to say the same thing. When I was younger hearing this on the radio, I always thought she died. When I finally saw the video for the first time and realized she lived I was able to listen to the song without bursting into tears. I still tear up when I hear it though
I grew up listening to this.. I didn't completely understand it as a kid, but now can't listen to it without crying! I was singing along with it and thinking 'just wait till the end!' 😂😭
If it makes you feel better, in the official video, at the end when Tim sings "Johnny's daddy is takin' him fishin..." a young woman joins them in the boat, so in the video she survives.
This was the song that made me a fan of Tim’s music. I started listening to country music back in 1995. Back then, I was black and I would never tell anybody I listen to country music. Not ashamed today. I listen to all types of music. That started with me broaden my music taste and listen to all types.
Thank you for doing a reaction video to this. And thank you for all of the wonderful comments. I cried nearly the whole time I was writing this song. It's a very special song and I thank God that he let me hold the pen for this one.
Your emotion while writing this song conveys directly to me the listener, because my eyes get wet everytime I hear it! Tim McGraw delivers the song perfectly in my opinion as well!
I know this is old, but you have to clear it up. She lived, correct? The video shows her at the end, but if you didn't see the video you wouldn't know.
@@jakerazmataz852Craig J Martin died in 2020 I think… I’m sorry but you won’t get the answer your looking for. But we hope she made it through but If he asked god to save her and take him there’s a good chance he took the girl and not the boy…
I've always thought of the song as coming full circle because they named the new baby Johnny too! And everyone lived happily ever after. And another love story begins. Kind of a never-ending story. Love your reaction. Peace my friend.
I'm not the biggest country fan, I like a few songs here and there, but this is one of the few I like. It makes me a little sad to listen to it now, not just cause of the lyrics, because it was one of my grandma's favorite songs. She passed away in 2004 but I still miss her a lot, she helped raise me.
the music video that goes with this song really tells the story the song tells and shows emotion behind the song god this song makes me cry every time i hear it
Thats the big thing about country music is they tell stories. This was big hit for Maggraw a few years ago but hearing it again sure brought tears to my eyes, Im a man.
this makes me so happy and sad at the same time.....my Mom introduced me to TM's music years ago and she loved this song.....we just lost her so thanks for the bittersweet memory....xoxoxo
This was my daughter's lullaby (it was the only one I could actually remember) when she was a baby. When she was, she wasn't feeling too well and asked me to sing it to her. Her eyes got real big, and at the end, she was all like, "that's a really sad song. Let's not sing it anymore."
the first time I heard this song was in the car on the radio on the way to my girlfriend's funeral in 1995, and the song that came right after it you should react to.. THE DANCE- GARTH BROOKS
Hi India, this is why I love Country Music...Heart Felt..It will change your thoughts about music making you feel something deep in your heart and soul..
I Love Tim McGraw I had this in a cassette along with his other old cassette until I warn them out. I now have them in CD 's along with every other Cd's that he has released.❤
Wow, even though I know the song I Can't Help every time as soon as it talks about the mother fading and he hits his knees I just start bawling thank you so much I think I've needed a cry in a while
Anyone open to music will find something they like in country music. Its a beautiful genre. Despite all the joke and stereotypes, its full of life and real, relatable stories.
This big bad biker (my wife's words not mine)she is the beautiful woman in the photo. Called me from the emergency room. Told me don't get upset, but i have a heart issue. I was there before she said hurry up. They took my 5'2" 115 lbs and opened her little chest and did a quadruple bypass. The last verse played in my head for 6hrs. I went to the chapel and got on my knees and thought Johnny prayed "don't take the girl" and it didn't help. So i cried for hours. That was 3 months ago. She's still here and we've been married 23 yrs.
I've seen Tim McGraw sing this song in concert 20 years ago. That song was released in 1994. I can't believe this song is 25 years old. I'm recommending another song that you should do a reaction too. It's a song by John Michael Montgomery titled, "The Little Girl". This is song is sad song in the beginning, but it has a happy ending.

Enjoyed your reaction. This song always brings me close to tears (so far so good). With the holidays coming up you should react to Faith Hill's 'A Baby Changes Everything' and Newsong's 'The Christmas Shoes'. I believe you will like both of them.
When I was a little kid we used to go to an old woman's house, we called her Granny though we weren't related. We'd meet another family there and me and my sisters would play with their young son and three daughters. My mom and dad stood up for their mom and dad at their wedding. We quit going when I was 7 or 8. When I was 28 or so I met a woman at work. We got to know each other then became friends and went out on a date. Turns out she was the older sister of the three. A year later we were married. 24 years later she passed leaving me with a daughter and two beautiful grand kids. It can happen.

Missy Trowbridge Yuns for real ? Cause I’m a 30 year old dude and this ruined my night hearing this song .
WAit really! Now I have to go watch the video to see!
Yes she lives in the video but the true story the song was written from she passed
See I like how the actual song without the video leaves it ambiguous. It’s up to the listener to decide whether she lives or dies.
It doesn't matter No matter what I do. This song tears me up every time. Greatest love song of all time.
