Metal detecting native sites. What could be found?!

- After walking up on an old large cent piece from the mid 1800's while at one of the native sites i hunt, I wondered what could be found if i swung the metal detector while i hunted? So I spent a day going to a number of sites hunting with the detector in tow. I found a number of interesting items from flat buttons, to bullets, coins, buckles, an addition to the egyptian looking piece i found a couple years ago... and of course some native artifacts! I have an identical Egyptian piece that I found on the Ohio River in New Richmond, Ohio about fifteen yrs ago, never bothered researching what it was but now my wheels are turning. Nice finds, really enjoy your videos without all the hootin and hollerin.😊
Do you already know what this Egyptian find is? I found similar ones in Poland.

What an excellent episode, and I won't attribute that final find to luck, but I can't discount the feeling that fate steered you back to collect the rest of the small treasure that alluded you previously! I always enjoy your productions, and his one did not disappoint, as there was something here for most every collector, including a couple of stellar points! Thanks as always buddy! I thought I would go off into a different direction with this video. When the points are few and far between I start looking for other artifacts that need finding! I don’t know why, but since a very young age I have had a passion for finding the lost. Especially lost and forgotten. I guess the discovery is half the pleasure. The saving of artifacts is the other half. The native artifacts are really what excite me. Finding remnants of a history we really know so little about, where each find could be another piece to an ancient puzzle of a story. I always appreciate your input and thank you once again!
The Egyptian necklace or jewelry is very intriguing. The civil war era bullets and buttons are cool too. Funny how the arrowheads pop out of the ground when you walk by. That happens when Benny walks by too.
Haha “pop out” you say!😂 Usually I would laugh and say no way in heck… but those 2 in this video, man I had literally just hunted those spots what seems like a week or 2 before! I couldn’t believe they were just laying right on top like that! I think my sidekick is my lucky charm actually!😏

Thanks man! But I know! After going back the first time with the detector I thought the place was for sure void of any metallic pieces to be found. On a whim I decided to give it another go since I was out there. Couldn’t believe another one popped out! This one’s a little different, but clearly similar. Still trying to make sense of the first one.. and now this one! Hah thanks as always buddy!

Man I couldn’t believe I found those 2 points that day! The main reason I went detecting instead was because the arrowhead hunting had been so slow. Laying right on top too! It obviously wasn’t shared because I didn’t want it to appear as if I was digging for native artifacts… but the first metallic target at the first site, I also pulled a broken drill out of the hole! Haha I couldn’t believe it!
This was such a cool video! Metal detecting and arrowhead finding, it don't get a whole lot better than that. I have a site I have found arrowheads on and I also took my detector there. I found a lot of large cents and flat buttons plus one 1785 Silver half reale.
Fellow artifact hunter here. I would like to recommend a horseshoers knife. It’s a folding pocket knife that has a blade along with a metal hook like piece used for cleaning dirt out from horse hooves. It’s super lightweight and is extremely useful for digging out small artifacts.
I can't tell you how many times that I have thought about doing this. I have eyeballed some really old coins, tokens and CW bullets while surface hunting in the past. Great video.
No telling what you’re walking over out there! Curiosity finally got the best of me. I’ve detected at a few sites before where coins had been found. This particular day I decided to hit up a number of native spots… even if no metal objects had been found there before. I was surprised at the number buttons I found at native sites where no other signs of modern habitation existed. The Egyptian looking pieces is another on of those places where no signs of modern habitation could be found. Those really have me scratching my head! Thanks again and as always buddy!

Haha icing indeed! I’d take a nice point over a coin any day of the week though.. man I love me some artifacts! The point hunting has been really slow, so I decided to take a few swings with the detector. I couldn’t believe I found 2 points at spots I had been just a week or so earlier!

It’s a whole different type of hunt detecting! Compared to hunting native artifacts, it almost feels like cheating! Where as a keen and trained eye is needed to find flint projectiles, and still walked over when only slightly covered, a detector alerts you. Hence the feeling of it being too easy! Haha It’s definitely fun for when the points are few and far between, or when your hidden house key out in the flower bed has become 1 with the earth and needs locating! Haha Thanks as always!

got a buddy who does that at a Hopewell site, finds copper awls rolled beads and little wedges.
Man that’s what I was really hoping to find! Over the years I believe I’ve only found 2 copper pieces that are native. My first of which was 12-14 years ago. A piece of crude copper, crudely rolled into what looks and fits like a ring. I never found anything else there metallic.

Dude I found most of bracelet with the same exact triangles and squares and links but way differant scenes on them in a huge field where there was said to be a Native American camp site. I don't know what State You are in but I am in Western Maine. Awesome finds !!!
Thanks man! Middle TN here. It’s definitely a mystery piece for sure, and strange that you found similar! Have you tried taking a metal detector out there?! Everyone I show it to thinks it’s a 19th-20th century piece from when Egyptian revival jewelry was big. It’s odd finding pieces like that in places where only native artifacts are found, but stranger things have been found before! Haha good luck if you get back out there looking!
I found an 1860 bronze 2 cent piece on a site in Kansas, if it were from 63 or 64 it'd be worth some money.
But still… what a find! I’ve always wanted to find a 2¢ piece. Those are just neat on a whole new level I think! Thanks for checking out the finds and for sharing yours!

Thanks man! I think everyone that hunts native artifacts and detects has had that thought pop in their head! Haha I have run my pinpointer, which will pick up the smallest bit of metallic bits, over many pieces. The only piece that set it off was the broken piece of a polished hematite Celt I have. The high iron content in it was detected. Finding that artifact in the field would probably be hard because of the natural mineralization and trace amounts of iron already in the soil around here. It would be a lot of false hits and empty holes dug! Haha
Cool cool brother. I have the Legend too. It works pretty good for what I intended use for artifacts. I use mine for finding fire pits. There will be higher iron mineralization around the pit and in it. The trick is in the notch tone setting,,,,,, Lower the non ferris tones where you don't get them as much and the Iron settings raise. lol Just oppisite of what you set it up for regular finding, Only problem if it is is depth, I have overcome this by useing it as i dig. I have had some sucess doing this. At least it is keeping me from a lot of extra digging and keeping me on the better places to find. Also some points are high iron in the ground they show to a point, , , , but not on top or layed out purposely so it is just hit and miss there has to have the HALO signal to find them from the Iron leeching out into the surrounding soil. Like I said that is a hit and miss lots of varibles there. Glad to see this at least I'm not the only weirdo out there doing this lol Thanks for sharing brother.
Now that’s an idea I had never thought of! You’re right though, I bet it would slightly show on the lower end of the vdi. That’s too funny though.. setting up your machine to discriminate non ferrous! Haha I heard their new 1.14 update has a big depth improvement. Maybe that will help a bit.

Thanks man! No clue on those pieces. After going back to detect after the first find, I though the place was for sure empty of any metallic targets to be found. Since I was back out there with the detector I decided to give the spot a quick swing. Man I couldn’t believe another one popped out! Still not sure on age or anything. When I shared the first find people were across the board with it. A number of people thought it was from the late 1800 early 1900’s when there was a resurgence in Egyptian themed items. Rationally thinking me; would probably agree. Tin foil hat me; aliens visited the pyramids then dropped it as they were fishing these fine TN waterways before heading home! Lol
$600 detector. Dang. No wonder my $199 one sux.
Nah… it still gets the job done! My old $200 one served me well for years. I definitely went back with newer ones and found stuff at places I thought I had hunted out with the old one, but it got the most of it! Haha

Lemon juice will clean that coin up. Soak it then use a tooth brush to gently clean it. Im sure you already know that though.😊

That’s absolutely the worst thing you can do to a coin or metal relics is to wet them and the rub them you destroy what could be saved…… this is productive advise just let it dry and then use a toothpick to clean it up…… don’t take my word for it ask any metal detecting person for advice ……. No offense but I collect both native artifacts and metal detect . 40 years worth. Thanks and great job!
Noted, and thanks for the advice. My natural reaction is to take things to the water to clean them off. It only feels right. I can see where the abrasiveness of sandy soil could do harm. Thanks again for the pointer!

That’s right! About a year and a half later. Right after I found the first one surface hunting, I went back with the detector and didn’t get any hits, anywhere! Since I was out detecting old sites that day, I decided to swing by there and give it another go. Not sure why this wasn’t found last time I went there, but this one turned up all of a sudden! It’s very similar to the first. Different depictions on it. It’s also oriented different. Still trying to figure out what exactly it is and why it would be there?! Thanks as always!
If I remember correctly metal detectors were invented during WW2 by a Polish man and used to find mines. Then the Germans started using mines made from wood only. Back to the drawing board.
Can you keep the talking to a minimum in your videos.... all that talking you do is making it hard to hear........
