- Roman Coin Hoard found in North Lancashire 99 Radiate Coins.
I do not find many Roman coins here in north Lancashire and then 99 pop up in one go. Amazing feeling discovering a Roman hoard of coins. It will probably end up in the local museum.

WOWZERS Nigel... well found, yes i can see by the make up.. of that ground your on, that is hard going... no silver amongst em ? well it goes without saying.. you will have to check all the surrounding area...if you need the 900 on the job my friend..you know where i am ! take care GL&HH Gordon.

My goodness, Nigel, this is a find of a lifetime and certainly will be hard to top. What a way to celebrate a Birthday and belated many happy returns. Was that hill a known encampment area, or did you just come across them on a permissive dig? 99 is amazing. I'm so chuffed for you. My question would now would be...... do you get to keep one or two? Do they become the property of the Crown? Do they get evaluated, and you receive compensation? I love your thinking, too. Very much like me, thinking of the history of an item in your hand and being the first person to see it in nearly 2000 years. Congratulations, Nigel, and a well-deserved find. Yes an amazing experience Chris. I have kept FLO and museum people informed and filled in a treasure declaration form. I've got a few of these cases in the system but none settled yet. They get to decide if they want to keep them or not. If they want them there will be an 'independent' assessment of the value, which can be challenged. Unless there is a rare coin hiding amongst them I don't expect much as they are bronze, not silver or gold. Not a quick system.

I know! I've been back but haven't been able to squeeze out that extra one. I did find one in the bottom of my pocket to take me from 98 to 99. Glad I rescued it before it went through the washing machine! This is not a normal occurrence I can assure you. Happy hunting out there.

Stone the crows Nigel, how fantastic. Those coins look barbarous to me mate. That is the term used to describe coins minted in Britain. The condition of the minting is not as fine as those made in Rome. At first glance I'd say probably 3rd century but FLO will be more precise. Congratulations my friend, finds like this are what we all dream of. Well done.
