Glad to see you getting into reading! I have been trying to read a lot more translated works, so thank you for the recommendations.
I would also love to recommend a few English books I love if you haven’t already heard of them. First off is These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever- not the one by Chloe lol- it’s about a twisted and obsessive relationship between two boys. It is pretty dark, though it could be a whole lot worse, but as a queer person who loves dark books, this was amazing.
Contrasting that, I would also recommend The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. This has a lovely fantastical library setting and follows Zachery, a queer man, as he explores the library and kind of becomes a part of the society that runs it. I just love the characters and setting along with Erin Morgenstern’s lovely pros. It is just awesome and overall light-hearted. I was smiling through the whole read.
I would like to note that both of these are dark academia novels.
Lastly, I would like to recommend The Poppy War trilogy. It is a fantasy series but is clearly based on history in Japan. It follows Rin, a poor young woman, as she fights for her place in the world and ends up going to a elite military school. The first half of the book is pretty YA, as we follow Rin as she attends the school, but then the rest of the series plunges into Rin’s experience in the war that starts half way through the first book. While there are a lot of flaws in R. F Kuang’s writing, especially since this is her first novel and series as a whole, I still loved it so much. It doesn’t skim the horrors of war and the main characters have remarkable character arcs that just broke my heart.
Anyways, sorry to continue ranting about books but I hope at least one of these is a good recommendation for you.
Lovely video, have a great day!
Also, side note, She Who Became The Sun is a novel that is very similar to The Poppy War trilogy, so if you don’t want to read a full series or just feel like reading more like The Poppy War I would highly recommend it!

Hi Fran, I recently finished Chilean Poet and this book is already in my top books of the year! Hopefully you will like it too. I totally understand you when you talk about reading in your mother tongue because otherwise you miss things, especially that Latin Literature has really poor English translations and besides what's he point to read books in translations when you can in original language, I wish I could read comfortable Spanish books but for now I read them in Polish and luckily for me they are really good translations.

Abrazote!

I love that you talk more about books and reading! Reading is so beneficial to us, and is one of my favorite things. I have always been a reader but the last few years I have gone nuts and read a LOT more haha. It definitely becomes a huge part of your identity at some point.
Best of luck on your new chapter 💗

Te recomiendo 'La Anguila? de Paula Bonet. Habla sobre Chile y sobre cosas duras.
