I remember experiencing the 224 when I was 18 or so, in the pro recording studio of my friends dad. He was so proud of it and it cost a fortune back then. He had the huge Emt plate reverbs in the studio at that time ( which were also very expensive btw) and this was his jump into the digital age. !
What an amazing piece of hardware --- I kinda feel like most Chase Bliss pedals are overkill (but not overrated) but this one makes sense to me. I love devices like this that pay homage to a specific historical device yet retain and bring a unique, modern aesthetic to the table. :)

This. It's really more than a "pedal." More like a world class, studio grade reverb (that happens to have switches that _can_ be operated by foot) that sits equally as comfortably on my console as it does on my pedal board. One of the best studio tools I've ever purchased, period. In my book and uses, it sits among my vintage 70s Neve pres, and vintage Neumann (and other) tube mics. It's the Lexicon 224/480+ in a modern form factor with a myriad of applications. When one sees that it is truly more than "a pedal" it actually feels quite inexpensive for what you get from it. I am already expecting that Chase Bliss/Meris will eventually stop making these, and those that have them won't want to sell them. We may be witnessing a "modern classic" in the making. That's been my experience with it so far. :)
@@ImagineRecordingsdoes it have a kill dry option? How can you run it in a console in an aux if dry signal is be,I g passed through it and not get any phasing issues? It's only sensible, and frankly, time that the 80s rack stuff begins to be ported onto pedalboards to the T. @@stevefearon9337 The UA reverb will be a better choice if you're after emulations of physical spaces and electromechanical devices as UAD is well renowned for the quality of their reverb plugins, which includes a Lexicon 224 plugin as seen in the video. The CXM is an emulation of 70's algorithms attempting to emulate such things. The CXM seems more of an extravagance than a viable solution to a problem to me beyond a 'moneys no object' approach to having the vintage Lexicon sound on your board. These pedals with sliders scare me. How are they in a live gig & how about contact cleaner maintenance? At home in a controlled environment might be alright.

I am sure that the audience will appreciate the sound of this pedal. But wait. Do people who spend that much money on a reverb have an audience? Not sure. Great review though.
You could get a new LEXICON MX400 for 300 euros at THOMANN. Now unfortunately no MX400 is produced. I think PCM 70 even belongs to a more expensive series. Better MX400 because the effects changed a lot in the 20s in terms of capability. I'm a guitarist and I only work with LEXICON in stereo on guitar amps. All the other reverbs I do not need. Only LEXICON.
Meris makes good stuff the Lexi reverb is awesome I have the real deal at home, but 900.00 for an unproven automated pedal on a pedalboard in bars and dirty places is unquestionably a slider that sticks. Fine for studio cool looking but no pedal is worth that money. Flying faders is cool but not road proven. As time goes on and processors get more powerful extreme high quality will get better and cheap.
@@alexmurphy5289 don't know about CBA, but I had two meris pedals and I think they were overhyped as well. I'm sure it's a great verb. however for nearly a grand, I'd be looking at used rack gear beginning with an "L" or "R."
Listen to Henning. The CXM 1978 performs as well and is priced competitively with the stuff starting with "L" and "R".
What a great song on the intro
Amazing demo!
Sounds so amazing, but there comes a point where the price to get 'Lexicon-ish' is the same as getting a Lexicon.
