    Seabourn Venture Submarine
Welcome to our submarine dive with with Seabourn Cruises.
Our 10-part series (+ series preview, full ship tour walkthrough, suite tour and submarine dive) was filmed over 20 nights during our cruise aboard Seabourn Venture, r/t Ushuaia, Argentina (and 2-nt pre-cruise stay in Buenos Aires), over the Christmas & New Years Holidays, December 2022-January 2023.
    INDIVIDUAL EPISODE & SERIES DESCRIPTION:
This episode covers getting to and from the submarine, as well as a dive experiance.
THE SERIES documents Buenos Aires (where we show some of the city’s culture & history); Seabourn’s Charter Operation (where we detail the Buenos Aires-Ushuaia boarding process); Ushuaia, Argentina (where we tour the waterfront); EXPEDITION EXPERIENCES that include New Island, Falklands (where we visit a Penguin & Albatross Rookery); Saunders, Steeple Jason and Stanley, Falkland Islands (where we tour a penguin rookery and explore Bluff Cove, a penguin beach habitat); Lemaire Channel, Galindez Island, and Yalour Island (where we have an epic Antarctic sail-in, tour a cove via Zodiac that includes a Ukrainian Research station, have a lovely close-to-ship whale experience, and tour a remote penguin colony); Detaille Island cruising & Blind Bay (where Venture broke through pack ice and we all walked ashore!); Stonington Island (where we tour British Antarctic Survey & American research stations, closed since the mid-20th c, and take a Polar Plunge!); The Gunnel, Detaille Island and Petermann Island (where we sail a beautiful, narrow channel; tour Detaille Island’s Base W, a closed British research station from the mid-20th c, and have close encounters with lovely penguins and their “highways”); Port Lockroy (where we visit an active British Antarctic Survey station and learn about the team that manages the site and area & experience a Submarine dive); and Cuverville & Deception Island (where we experience even more beautiful landscapes, tour penguin habitats, & climb a fascinating volcanic island).

This is absolutely crazy. I have traveled many parts of the world. Been on many cruises. Even did submarining one time. But THIS is the epitomy of nuts. OMG, do I wish I had strived for more in my young years. I am so jealous that it almost makes me cry. OMG.

Bernard, I’m glad you liked it although I think you’re shocked but maybe in a positive way? It seems it’s had a positive effect, which I’m quite glad.
We’ve been on a submarine with Viking cruises, but this on Seabourn was part of an epic trip to Antarctica, our 10-part series you may enjoy.
Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a comment.

My comment was absolute positive. Sorry if misunderstandable but for a minute I was really torn between feeling sad I might never be able to afford this and being super happy to see an excursion like this exists. You are blessed.

@@BerndGrabowski-zn1py Indeed we are, Sir. In Rotterdam tonight just off another cruise (no submarine involved, though 😉). It’s always a blessing to be able to travel.

What a treat. Thanks for showing us what it's like to going submarining, just amazing the technical aspect of the dive.
I thought it was included but now I know it's not.

Glad you liked it, Arthur. Viking, when I went on them, included as part of their fare; Seabourn have always charged.

*Hello, Was the submarine worth it? I have been thinking whether to buy submarine expedition or not which is $1000. I am going on a sister ship of Pursuit in December.*

      Hi Stephanie,
IMO - it was, barely, and that was at $499 USD.
I booked this about 10 months before our trip. A few months later, appx. April 2022, SB raised thier prices for the Sub by 2x. We were already booked, so had locked in the lower price.
At USD 1K, as much as I flat out love exploration, I would not do it.
Thanks for taking the time to comment/ask a questio! Do watch all 10 Eps of our Antarctica series and our ship tour (a carbon copy of Pursuit) if you can. Personal hint: I find Eps 5, 8 & 10 the best examples of the expedition experience.

What a brilliant experience Bob, but ouch at the price! Do you feel it was value for money? Was that your first experience in a sub or were you reliving some of your USN days? (Appreciate that you probably can’t say). How do they get the sub out of the garage? It looked quite claustrophobic, was it? Do the chairs revolve so you can see out or are they fixed? It’s impressive that they can reach a decent depth, did I mishear that there was another sub below you that caused you to move, do they operate two at the same time? Sorry loads of questions, but it’s so lovely to see something so different to anything I’ve done. Another fantastic episode 😊

      Hi Pete! Thank you!
I didn't feel it was value for money - for at-time-of-sailing customers. 10 months earlier, Feb 2022 ish, I bought this dive when SB were still charging U.S. $499. Once booked, I stopped tracking, but by the middle of Summer 2022, SB had raised their pricing 2x. I would not pay $1k for this.
The first and only other time I was on a sub was with Viking (what, you've not watched our sub video, lol!?) in April 2022. Viking's at time of recording, were $0. Free/included.
It was a bit of a tight fit, but then I'm not small; the seats do swivel 180 deg, but this pilot only went 90, so he could see out the side of us.
Good hearing.. there was a sub passing under us, which was due to surface, so we had to move. SB operated both subs at the same time most of the dives. Thanks for watching!

@@InnocentsAbroad I think at $499 it’s worth doing, glad you got that deal! Ah yes, I remember your Viking experience now. Perhaps SB might consider including it in the future. I suspect it’d be a bit too much of a tight squeeze for me regardless. It’d be a bit embarrassing getting stuck in the hatch 😂
I was hoping (as I’m sure you were too) that you’d get to press the “in case of emergency“ green button, not that I’d wish any harm to the pilot or there being a real issue necessitating it’s use!

Why did you choose Seabourn over Silver Seas, Viking, Ponant etc?

    • @InnocentsAbroad
      @InnocentsAbroad  ปีที่แล้ว

Viking was an easy omission, as we had been booked on Seabourn for December 2020 and rolled over to 21, etc.
At the time of our initial booking, Viking were not an expedition product.
French line Ponnant never appealed to me, so early 2020 at the time of initial booking, that really just left Silversea as a consideration; we chose Seabourn over SS because SB seemed to be a luxury type of Azamara, to us, in that it was more of a club atmosphere, without having the slightly more formal SS.

@@InnocentsAbroad thanks I have been looking at expedition ships. Ponant appeals to me because of their teaming up with Smithsonian. I took 5 years of French between the 8 th grade and first year of college. Every once in a while I get a chance to use my French. Last year we spent a few days in Paris after a river cruise down the Rhine. It was amazing how things came back to me
Thank you for your reasoning. Im enjoying your videos. We’re you alone with the captain of the submarine. How much extra was that?
See you on Sunday at Gary’s livestream 😃
