In case you didn't know, I'm a compact bookshelf/standmount speaker aficionado. These $549 Triangle Borea BR03 and $599 KEF Q150s are just the kind of speakers that I enjoy listening to and evaluating. Enjoy!

BR03s are currently on back order and I was just about the pull the plug on q150s cause I was getting impatient. You swung me back to borea. I already have the BR08s and love them. What’s that saying… all good things to those in a hurry? On no, it’s “those who wait”.
I've owned my Bro3's since they were introduced and they're superb. Best £400 I've spent!!
Nicely done smaller speaker comparison. Recently found your YT channel, Thank you. I will definitely checkout the Triangle units.
Thanks. I hope that you subscribed!
If they aren't doped or infused with some material the woofers may break down faster in higher humidity environments. Something to consider.
Great comparison of two of the best speakers in the $500 price range
The Kefs are 299.00 in Amazon. I picked them up today.
Great vid, probably gonna go with the triangle instead of kef. It’s been a hard decision.
Picked up a pair for $350! I have them paired with a 20watt Vista Audio Spark and couldn’t be happier!
Why didn't you get the BR02 especially for use as PC Speakers?
I was initially thinking of the BR02 since they are smaller, but the price difference between the BR03 and BR02 is only $100. Seems like Triangle is pricing the BR02 so that customers would rather opt to go for the BR03. I'm just not sure if the BR03 will be able to perform adequately if I seat closer to it (like a normal PC setup).
I'll be getting a PB 1000 PRO to match either one of these Triangles. So I'm also thinking that the BR03 having just "extra" low frequency compared to the BR02, might end up not sounding different when paired with a subwoofer.
My opinion of most modern KEFs is that they sound great under ideal listening situations, but fall apart as all-rounders. I'm not sure why, but I agree the Triangles are very versatile and exhibit very little compression at high volumes. However, the light paper cones that add so much to the midrange tone do cause them to roll off faster in the bass. It's the biggest design challenge in a 2-way, bass vs. midrange clarity.
The bro 2 are better
Love how you show what equipment you're using to audition speaker sets. Not too many others do that but I really appreciate it so I have background knowledge on how these are powered and/or how that compares to other equipment.
Great work as always!
I picked up the KEF on black friday for $300 on Amazon...what a steal
Can´t decide between these, the Emotiva´s B2 + or the HECO Aurora 300.
Any recommendation?
I have been listening to the Little Village CD you recommended and I am really into John Hiatt and the super groups he was able to build like here and on his own album Bring the Family, However Slow Tuning is probably my favourite. Don't know how he never really broke through on this side of the Pond! Like you I was a fan of bookshelf speakers, but since I picked up a pair of Mordant Short 3 way floor mounted speakers I have not looked back - these are slim and fit my 17ft by 12ft lounge inconspicuously - Its just a shame my wife insists they are tucked away at the end of the sofa and behind the TV! However they come out when she's out - just ask the neighbours!!!! Nice review keep up the modesty!
Hi have you ever compared the bro2 to the bro3 thank you
thank you from Russia ! i need triangle :}
You should really get that NAD amp off the carpet , even if you just slide a small cutting board under it . By the way I'm happy your blown speaker is fixed , having two different models just wasn't cool . Love your videos ! Thank you .
Very comprehensive review David 👍
Two way stand mounts are my favourite design too.
Hi
Thank you for your honest reviews.
I like bookshelf speakers , I listen to jazz, chamber music and vocals. I love great mids smooth sweet sounding and dislike sharp highs.budget up to us 2000 can you please recommend some speakers. Thank you reinhart
very good video,i have a pioneer 1050 and a sansui 9090 do you think these bro3 would be a good fit.
I like them very much, but that's my personal taste. Easy to drive w/ those receivers. Thanks!
Interesting take on paper cones, Rigid and lightweight, hard to beat, but I eventually settled with TPX cones.Fabulous Mid-bass. Love your work. Thankyou.
Thanks for watching!
what is your most affordable speaker recommendation for low volume, near field desktop usage ? new or vintage, thanks
Currently, these two speakers can be found for around $300 a pair. Both would work very well from my experience. In the used world, check out Paradigm Mini Monitors, Dynaco A25, Celestion SL6S. Linn Katans are my current favorites.
Absolutely excellent review!!!
The KEFS hold up admirably with Massive Attacks Angel even at high volume. after all they are tiny drivers!
Great video..keep it up!
Two other bokshelves you should try are the Magnat signature 503's and JBL stage 130.
Q350's would be a better comparison price wise.
Concordo totalmente
You wish they "had more punch," because 6" woofer is at the very bottom of that range with regard to scale displacement. Whole room of any size, minimal driver size would really be 8" minimum, even for stand mounts, with 10" and 12" being much more believable. The new trend is, to supposedly be surprised that small speakers sound bigger than they actually are, which they really don't. I have been disappointed by every speaker that has worn that claim. My absolute minimum, without subs, for near field listening is, 6.5", that can play down into the mid/upper 30s. Any speaker that plays mid, or even low 40s, better have at least an 8" woofer, and perhaps even gravitating more towards a 3-way design.
As soon as I see a 2 way bookshelf speaker with middle 40hz range, I know I am going to need a well matched subwoofer, about as soon as that novelty of that "big" sound getting shot to pieces with user break-in, or, in about two days. I got over it. My near field speakers now have 12" woofers, and measure pretty darn flat. My smaller BS speakers have been sent to desk/tabletop duty or in my bedroom.
Size Matters ?
So which did you like better overall? it sounds like the Triangles had better highs and mids and the kef's better bass, or did I get it wrong?
Good evening I noticed in one of your videos you had some pro ac bookshelves do to ever sell any of your stuff online .
Never owned ProAc bookshelf speakers. Usually just sell locally.
@@MODAC Sorry i thought you had a video that had Pro Ac's.I enjoy your videos question marantz and sansui wern't audiophile in the 70s what companies were ?
@@mikeinmass4 I do own ProAc floor standing speakers, just not bookshelf models. Thanks!
What's the track at 9:30 ?
Thanks
Don't remember, it's all royalty-free music that won't get blocked by TH-cam.
I have a pair of these speakers and love them. I have them paired up with a Hegel H95 amp and 7m long Canare 4S11 home made speaker cables. They play wonderfully in my attic listening pad w/ roughly 50m2. Great channel.
I love the 216 thx NAD amp. It's on my top 5 list
Are you able to move that amplifier? It's position in front of and between the speakers may negatively affect your imaging. Thanks for the review.
Good morning I really enjoy your video I have a question, do you write out your review and read it to us, it doesn’t sound like you’re slowing with your words, it sounds like you’re reading from Q cards. Nevertheless I still like your videos keep up the good work and yes kudos that you don’t need a subwoofer for either one of the speakersl
Hi Dave this is another excellent video. Keep up the good work.
