Paul using swords of revealing light on the cusp of defeat to then use shadow goul to use the power of its fallen allies to destroy tri-horned dragon was an anime level comeback
shadow ghoul was a card i was weirdly obsessed with as a kid and thought was way better than it actually is so im happy to see it actually not only get used, but basically win a duel for someone
*THE RARE HUNT CONTINUES!* 😈 This week, we're playing with cards from Metal Raiders and wagering the best ones on a Duel! It's still a work in progress, but we tried to take a couple of popular viewer suggestions! Let us know what you think of the series so far and any changes or improvements we can make! Next week: Magic Ruler!
Paul pulling himself off the ropes with that Pot of Greed into Swords play was something straight out of the Anime! Great, tense duel and I love the idea of the continuous deck upgrades making the ante cards matter.
This was incredible. The mirror force. The trap hole. The swords. The magician of faith. Shadow ghoul omg I felt like I was back in school watching/playing with a friend at lunch. Cannot wait to see this series continue 💜💜💜
Not to sound like I'm trashing on what the game has become in recent years... But this duel alone has had me more hype for real life Yu-Gi-Oh than any recent expansion or tournament. You guys really made it feel suspenseful, and this concept made me wish I could do this, too. Keep it up.
Yeah! I mean I'm strengthening my deck my strongest is Supreme King Odd Eyes My brother is too strong he has Supreme King Odd Eyes, Supreme King Venom Fury and Supreme King Clear Wing!
This definitely needs to be a whole arc with the entire aps team getting their own start within the same generation and then possibly going up through the years of yugioh as a rival team of rare hunters
Technically Alec’s shield and sword would not have worked considering it only swaps the Original attack and defence of each monster meaning shadow ghoul have have had 1300 + 100 for each monster in the grave but that’s ok since it didn’t change the outcome of the duel!
Really like the series so far! Making decks from what limited random cards you have and forcing yourselves to be resourceful is a very cool challenge. It stops you from metagming the shit out of every game and makes any card game twice more fun! Keeping the proggresion is very good idea. Since you don't have to start from scratch every week your decks are better and duels more interesting, it also helps to make the videos feel like a series (there were even callbacks to the last episode at 14:44 and 22:52). This format definitly is very anime and I can get excited watching it like an actual show. That's why I'm glad you guys went for the theatrics and role-playing. Honestly, you could go all out for it if you want: start explaining every single card as you play it (even the obvious ones), faking yourselves characters with made up personalities to role-play, or trying to give this series lore (even something as simple as: we work for Marik, we met each other and fought over a rare card, now we are sworn rivals). So I'm just saying, if you want to make this series a full on spinoff, you easily can. I promise I will not call you guys cringe!
Raiders was the pack that made the game fun. It came out with the starter decks and it started competitive Yu-Gi-Oh. Duels we're really exciting like this one with many twists and turns
I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh anymore ( because i dont like mondern Yu-Gi-Oh anymore) but love to watch some old school dueling. Keep up the great work guys. It was a lot of fun to watch
OOOOOOOOH I didn't realize you upgrade the decks as you go along, that is so awesome, I really like this format and the duels are so nice to watch (I hope they are as fun to play as when you look at them
Man I remember when I was a kid, walking into a Woolworths with my Dad and buying the odd booster pack here and there, Metal Raiders being one of the first boxes to be available at the shop. Eventually with my Dad getting more into it too he'd purchase a full box and we'd spend hours opening packs, organising and then creating awesome decks. I loved Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid and really wished I kep my cards from back in the day. I eventually came back to it years later when they had introduced synchro, pendulum monsters etc and just couldn't get on with it. My heart belongs to the OG game and series and wish I could just relive those gaming days. Loving this series and the nerdyness that you two bring. Been a pleasure watching you videos recently having just stumbled across the channel. I look forward to videos in this series, happy hunting
Progression series’ are always fun, but the added bonus of taking each other’s cards is the best part of this. The one fear I have is that if someone goes on a losing streak and loses their best cards every week it may be impossible to catch up.
Was there an unintended cut at like 29:35? It just cut to MP2 and there was Kuriboh in the GY. Obvious hand trap move but I wanted to see Paul's face when Alec pulled that 🤣
Stuff like this is why Yu Gi Oh needs a limited set format. Duels like these don't exist anymore and this was where YGO was best. Pharaoh's Servant should be coming up soon as a set I believe and it was such an awesome time
I think we have that now in a way with Speed duels but generaly a Master Duel Rules but "Only cards up to a certain series" would be a fun variant especialy for more fun deck players. Modern Decks and Cards have a place sure but it basicly makes half the cards ever printed just... irrelevant besides for collectors wich is just sad.
Yeah, Shadow Ghoul's effect is active and changes depending on the number of monsters. So he would still get the boost, Shield and sword would not negate his effect
Loving this series. Having all the old cards, simple mechanics and building up your decks as you open each new booster pack really brings back the essence of what Yu-Gi-Oh was when we were kids. You couldn't just Google deck lists and buy singles - you had to rely on the luck of your pulls and throw your strongest cards together to form your personal Frankenstein deck. Great fun.
The thing about this is Alec had the better monster line up, but Paul had more grind and good defensive cards, this battle could have gone either way. Just glad it wasn't a blow out. Lol. Now, you know you gotta do best of 3 instead of best of 1. Lol
I hope you incorporate a team duel with the other APS fam. 2v2 then possibly a betrayal of the winners to see who's really greedy because why not? 🤔 (i love this Rare Hunter series you guys are doing. And from what i remember in battle city those rare hunter guys had no loyalty so i suppose a betrayal could make sense.) or just a good old fashioned 2v2. I really hope you guys continue throughout all the sets because I've stopped playing during GX. Team APS is the reason why I became interested in YuGiOh again. I won't ever get into the new stuff but this cannel really brings back great memories. You guys are great content creators because of that bro energy 👏 the vibes really make this team different from anything else I find on YT. Please, just keep doing what ya'll are doing and continue to be the definition or great sportsmanship.
This series is just such an excellent idea. Each episode gets more and more fun and we get to see their different styles develop as they get more cards. I wonder if they'll go beyond the classic series.
Man the dedication to the fans is amazing, you guys are building real decks and putting so much effort in that this and the last video earned you guys a subscription
Love how these simpler decks have a lot of back and forth, even though each turn only has a few actions. Seems more like battles of attritrion rather than otk-style matchups. Great series.
What an emotional rollercoaster this was, you could hardly script something so back-and-forth. Every player got to use all of their ace-cards, and in the end, it was the Summoned Skull that was up for grabs in the first place that clinched it. Very entertaining video
The best part of this is that Alec pulled Soul Release so he could have dealt somewhat with the Shadow Ghoul but I dont think he put it in. Maybe will side it for next game lol
Paul you misplaced. Shadow Ghouls effect would still boost his attack by the number on monsters in your grave. So even though he had 1300 defense his attack would have still increased 1400 so his attack would be 2700 and not 1300.
I would live to see this series continue not just through the classic sets but through every set along the way, seeing the decks evolve with the game would be sick, plus youd like never run out of episodes as long as konami keeps printing sets
This is a much better series then I expected. I stopped around 5’ds so this link and xyz stuff breaks my brain but with pack progression I feel like I’ll be able to get to catch up on knowledge I missed out on and enjoy what it means to build a truly strong deck.
I don't know if they will go that far into Yugioh's history, and if they do it will take ages to get there. The first set to feature XYZs summoning is Generation Force which is the 40th major set release meaning it will take almost 2 years to reach that point at the current video rate.
Since shield and sword specifically says that it changes the original atk and def, wouldn’t shadow ghoul still be at 2500 atk? His original atk was 1600 which would be switched with his defense of 1100, but wouldn’t the atk boost he gets still apply to that 1100?
I'm actually really happy that the inevitable APS progrussy series turned out to be this. These guys are really fun to watch, the corny dialogue is great, and the gimmick adds stakes without hugely imbalancing the series' meta.
I really love the idea of having the card pools increase with every episode! Great to see these decks evolve over time. I know I'm late to this series, but absolutely adore the concept!
Really love this series! Fantastic concept letting the cards you pulled previous availble in your card pool. In a way your playing the game from the begging through this series will get to see an active play of different eras of yugioh and power creep levels set by set. Really interesting.
So listen, that shield and sword play was BRILLIANT! BUT, even on the original Magic card versions of shield and sword says that it switches the original atk and def points, and that any additions/subtractions are applied to the swapped stats, so instead of 3000 atk, it would have had 2700 atk. It shouldn't have died
This is such a fun series and what a great duel! Idk if its the nostalgia goggles or just how I like the games design but the back and for and twist and turns of this old school match was amazing and so much more fun to watch than modern games.
I really love this series. I’m so excited to see this keep going. Honestly, you guys are the only yugi-tubers that I genuinely enjoy watching. I don’t play the game much, I collect but mostly only watch y’all play. I hope to see more of these vids!!
This duel was awesome, some of those plays felt like they'd feel right at home in the anime, haha. And I didn't realize going in that the decks would progress week to week, that makes this series super interesting. Can't wait to see how they continue to evolve!
This series is so sick man, love to see it! Team APS always coming out with new and exciting content. Keep it up guys, easily becoming my favorite channel
yall are honestly having the best duels youve ever had the last 4 or 5 months, im just catching up caus i took a break from yugioh for some months but every video is just awesome duels. all from the old cards too so pleeeease keep doing them
Great idea for a video. You can prove to budget players that can’t afford the newest, hottest meta decks they can still get the cards they like and build something playable. Have a tournament and everyone has to build a deck, but no cards can cost over a dollar.
Awesome duel boys! I love how Alec vs Paul trashtalkin always turn into an abridged version of Kaiba vs Pegasus xD Really brings back the nostalgia, especially moves like in turn around 28:00
I am insanely excited for this series, it will be so cool to watch the power creep in live action and see what unexpected cards hold up deep in to the new sets!
I was smiling the whole video seeing the old packs and the back and forth you guys had. Honestly made my day! Love this series! You guys are doing a amazing job please keep it up. I know finding sealed old sets is expensive tho
Paul using swords of revealing light on the cusp of defeat to then use shadow goul to use the power of its fallen allies to destroy tri-horned dragon was an anime level comeback
Epic comeback!

Same, it is the reason i decided to watch from episode 1 onwards once i realized while watching 6 they already had decks they’d been upgrading.
The madmen actually created a progression series using REAL cards. The dedication, you love to see it
Im loving it cause they have the perfect mix of chill and energy. Other progression series guys are too....energetic for me

I was thinking the same thing. It says orginal Attack and defense. So the modifiers would still apply to the stats as before.
The production quality is so high. I am so glad I found this channel.
Since shield and sword specifically says that it changes the original atk and def, wouldn’t shadow ghoul still be at 2500 atk? His original atk was 1600 which would be switched with his defense of 1100, but wouldn’t the atk boost he gets still apply to that 1100?

I am insanely excited for this series, it will be so cool to watch the power creep in live action and see what unexpected cards hold up deep in to the new sets!
Love how you guys are progressing the decks. Totally awesome, keep it up and can’t wait for next one.
I was smiling the whole video seeing the old packs and the back and forth you guys had. Honestly made my day! Love this series! You guys are doing a amazing job please keep it up. I know finding sealed old sets is expensive tho
Best series ever!!! I hope you continue this with every set ever released!
