      When they were asking about draw effects in mtg i wanted to jump into my screen and go on a rant about how good ancestral recall is haha.
      Heck, even just in standard, for draw 2 effects there's reckoner's bargain, reckless impulse, memory deluge just to name a few in different colors. Even green right now has storm the festival which is better than drawing. Mazemind tome, bankbuster, welcoming vampire, spirited companion i better stop there 😆

      @@napalmbukakke it is interesting tho because while drawing in mtg is great it’s on a whole other level in ygo Like in magic if you’re drawing you’re spending mana you could spend to cast. In yugioh you get to immediately use those new cards. And as a result we’ve got like 4 total draw cards legal in the tcg that inherently go positive Everything else usually is a rummage type effect.

      @@napalmbukakke From what I was told/remember/gathered (and my info is spotty at best so take it with a table of salt) generic draw/tutoring (Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity) is rare if not completely banned from tournament play (since literally everyone would run them). Instead, Yugioh has stupidly busted effects (compared to MTG) that are generally constricted to an archetype (notice how everyone seemed to be playing what MTG players would consider "tribal" decks). So essentially most decks will be based around Archetypes because of that.
      The idea is interesting, and works for the YGO game and playerbase. But getting started into YGO is difficult because of that, imo. In MTG you can run some pretty straight forward decks that can even be strong in the right setting. But in YGO I think that died a long time ago.

      The main differences between Yugioh and Mtg are:
      There is no mana, instead yugioh does focus more on card advantage.
      The “extra deck” acts kinda like a “command zone” with up to 15 cards in it, but due to a lack of mana, we mainly sacrifice creatures (or monsters in Yugioh-terms) to cast from there(or to summon) or cheat them into play through other means.
      We get 1 summon of a monster for free per turn (with a certain amount of sacrifices, depending on the stars/level of the monster). Yugioh has a lot more “cheating into play” (special summons).
      Cards with a red border (Trap cards) have to be set a turn, before they can be used at instant-speed. Other cards can be used instantly, as long as there isnt a restriction preventing you (once per turn etc.).
      We have a limited amount of space on the field.
      We rarely use keywords (with the exception of par example piercing->trample or Banish->exile) -> effects are usually relatively long.
      And finally, combat work differently (we attack monsters and depending on its position, damage will be dealt. If no monsters are on their field, we can attack player)
      (im just a yugioh judge, who recently dipped his toes into edh/commander)

      @Pink Crab Hands It's not hard, the effects seem complicated at first but like a third of the text is only conditions and stuff, and the effect is just a little bit of text, and also pretty much the language of the text is the same on every card, so is not that hard as it seems at the begginig, but the issue with yugioh os the rulings, and stuff like missing the timing, that's the hardest thing to learn.

    • @sammydray5919
      @sammydray5919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Pink Crab Hands Speaking of hard to track, the current format of yugioh is one where the clear best deck mills and activates effects which leads into further effect activations that it goes absolutely insane. Not to mention that its a tier zero format (happens extremely rarely when one deck is leagues above every other deck and has ludicrous representation) so most high level matches end up being mirror matches so BOTH players are milling cards and activating their effects AND responding to their opponent's effects AND have to make decisions based on that info while the clock is ticking. It got to the point where there so many effects being activated and resolved that the field legit looked like deck profiles lol.
      So yeah hard to track is pretty well put 🤣

    I am not a Yu-Gi-Oh Player, but my local LGS has players and I like being a constructive member of the community, so I'm commenting before I watch this video to say: You're inspiring me to try out this new other TCG and find ways to have fun with people. Thanks.
    That said, I want to make a request, if you so will, to consider inviting the guys from the Cardmarket Magic channel to the show, Carl and Thoralf. They're great entertainment, cool people to see and I feel their way of treating guests kindly makes them a friendly inclusion in the most respectable show (yours) that is being put out on the internet. Really love the show. Can't wait to press play.

      As a Yu-Gi-Oh! player (mostly casual) who's been slowly getting into MTG kinda recently, I will say that while YGO is a fun game, we have a serious onboarding issue. There's so much you have to explain to even scratch the surface. Although, granted, I've certainly run into difficulties with learning magic. Mostly with how vastly different the combat is. Having said all that, I hope you have fun getting into Yu-Gi-Oh! . The meta isn't in the greatest shape right now, but I hope you're having fun with some fun decks. Although, having said that, a new ban list just dropped, so I guess I'll go familiarise myself with that.

    • @joshuahadams
      @joshuahadams 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We had “Ten Thousand Dragon” printed recently, a commemorative card to celebrate the game hitting 10,000 unique cards. You bring it out by sacrificing monsters whose total Attack equals 10,000 or more and it’s own Attack is 10,000, basically consolidating all of your power into one big dragon. It’s not particularly good, and outside of showing off, you wouldn’t really want to put it in a deck.
      It’s hovering around $1,500.00 US on TCGPlayer, but it was printed in the annual reprint set, if you’d wanna try your luck.

    These crossover episodes have been so fun! I predominantly play magic these days but I played Yugioh a lot prior to XYZ summoning. Recently I've been getting back into it via Master Duel (which I've been liking a lot more than Magic Arena).
    Yugioh powercreep is kind of hilarious because it's essentially a card game where the equivalent of Vintage is the only format and Konami designs cards accordingly.
    That said there is something really entertaining about the complexity of modern yugioh. When my opponent is going off on turn 0 or turn 1 it's really fun to try to figure out when the right time to drop an Ash Blossom or Infinite Impermanence is. A lot of the time I dont have time to think through the sequence on Master Duel so I just have to trust my gut. Sometimes it makes them entire combo grind to a halt or come crashing down, and sometimes it's just a hiccup and they keep going. A friend of mine was talking about how it's a game suited to electrical engineers. There are so many complex variables that it's really difficult and rewarding to project outcomes.
